I'm still surprised people defend Sakurai's shit. Not only does he willingly make the game worse in order to make things "fair" and not only does he pick the safest possible picks out there, but now it's confirmed that this bastards just taunting us at this point. Additionally Nintendrones will keep defending this hack, rather than having him give up the series to someone who actually cares about these games.
The worst part is that he can clearly make other games, but the cunt is too headstrong to dare let someone take over the series. He allocates resources for the most mundane shit, be it a portable version, a story mode or a glorified event mode. Spirits Battles and the removal of trophies to relocate resource is a good idea, however having an entire SSE mode and taunting people for giving him some suggestions is just asinine. Additionally while he's right about diversifying the line up by using characters like Game & Watch, R.O.B and Dunk Hunt to separate from characters like Isaac, Ray MK III, Wonder Red, etc. That doesn't excuse him when he then puts in a shitload of Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus Uprising representation. Additionally just because people KNOW Piranha Plant doesn't mean he makes a good character.
People aren't gonna stop buying Smash because the newcomer roster is underwhelming. It's BEEN underwhelming, that's the issue. When you have characters like Piranha Plant and Daisy, and then continuously mock people who want characters that aren't fucking Mario or Zelda. People are gonna be upset. He just doesn't seem to fucking get it, the worst part is that we have to wait for his fucking hands to die out before we can get someone else on the project. Mind you I'm not saying that the roster should be filled with entirely niche pics. I'm saying there should be a mix between say Banjo, Dixie, Waluigi, Rex plus Ray 01, Isaac, Saki and Wonder Red. The issue is that Sakurai clearly doesn't want to make these games, but he does them anyway. It's a waste of perfectly good talent, especially when he could be making another Kid Icarus, Meteos or a new IP altogether.
People really need to stop defending Sakurai, for his own sake.

Sakurai is hell bent on making sure it lacks depth to make sure it only appeals to casuals. Never understood his wrath against hardcore gamers. It's like and inverse of Itagaki's (Oatmeal Cookie's) wrath against casuals. Even items removed any sort of skill to using them and many turned into "You lose a stock" buttons. I forget what upgrades this game got but nothing from Brawl and Sm4sh actually added to the game. Removing momentum is still a change I'll never understand as it ruins aerial combat.

Brawl feels like the last genuine smash bros game since it had that nice feeling of wonder on who was going to make it in. I kind of like similar movesets, if im being perfectly honest. Its neat to see simple tweaks going a far way, with Fox/Falco being the main example for me. Just different enough to separate the two. Same with Lucas and Ness, Similar moves with different outcome.

Then comes fucking Pitoo, a character that is one of the easiest to include as an alternate skin of an existing character, included as yet another separate playable character. Then there's things like a ton of Smash Run enemies coming from Uprising, among other things. You can't really deny that Sakurai was trying to shove as much KI: Uprising content in Smash 4 as he could get away with. And don't forget how Palutena got her own special anime trailer.

That said Link vs Young/Toon Link is more like a semi clone. Remote bombs and no hook shot are a big difference and many of thier A attacks have differences, with young Link apparently being closer to how Link was in Melee.

They were something I was excited for then when I got em it left me disappointing. They made a lot of matches involving them very uncertain, not to mention it did feel like a waste to me with the amount of work that must have come into reworking each characters moveset multiple times.
The thing that hit em home for me was that ive never met anyone who even bothered to use them. They just felt kinda shoved to the side. To me at least, felt like a lot of effort that just fell flat in the end.
I did like some of those specifics though, bowsers Mario 3 fire breath was a nice touch and all of Mega Mans were neat.
Just didnt feel worth the whole to me, though.

Smash 4 is like fighting floyd mayweather in boxing every fucking game because it's a defensive safety first game by nature. Once you and a friend gain a general mastery of gamesense you begin to realize that offstage gameplay is shit, combos are shit, some characters have heavily optimized combos whilst others just exist with their shit tier move set, etc. etc.
Honestly the optimal way to play smash 4 or brawl or just nusmash in general is to play a highly defensive game with mixups and just spam safe aerial attacks off a 1 jump over and over and over again. This is not fun or engaging gameplay. If you can't grab/hit someone and put them in a life threatening combo situation at any point the game is garbage. The easiest way to "combo" in smash 4 is to get someone in the air and then hit them right before they touch the ground(because otherwise most combos are not true combos because most moves and grabs toss someone just outside the zone of true combo unless they are low percent and they can just spam airdodge and avoid everything) Also note offstage gameplay in smash 4 was shit and I'm guessing that ultimate is going to be shit aswell.

Wario was introduced as a mario character, Yoshi was introduced as a mario character (and fights all the same enemies Mario fights), Donkey Kong and mario debuted together. It's not difficult. They are Mario characters, them branching out doesn't change that. By this logic Luigi is no longer a Mario character due to his more recent appearances taking more of a Luigi's Mansion aesthetic.
technically since Super Mario Bros. is an off-shoots of Donkey Kong Arcade then they are all Donkey Kong characters, which I'm fine with. That's my biggest problem overall. Back when making Smash 64, Sakurai said that he included Nintendo characters because then he wouldn't have to do a story mode and just focus on making a fun game. Then, with Melee, just about everyone gushed about the Nintendo fan service that was included, along with all the improvements and additions, and made players interested in anything and everything that the company had produced over the years yet never heard word one about (Especially since NoA is shit). The character of the MGS crew is much more enjoyable than uprising, imo.
The interactions seem a lot mroe intimate.
Not to mention, in brawl they also talked a good amount about the characters themselves, offering fun interesting history facts as well as comical hijinx.
The Kid Icarus crew I dont have a bone to pick with as much as the next guy, but their convo dont carry the same heart. It 100% focuses more on the Kid Icarus crew than the other characters, which is fine if you like Kid Icarus.

Spirits are no different than the stickers. Trophies were liked because they had bios on them and told you stuff about characters you possibly didn't know about. Spirts don't and all they do is have their name and effect. Only white spirits have bios, which is only for the fighters themselves. Still, I wouldn't mind a second Splatoon stage with more of Splatoon 2's OST. We need some Chirpy Chips, and Octoarmaments, and the Octoling battle music, and a Salmon Run song, and Fly Octo Fly.
Though for a moveset focusing on Splatoon 2 weapons, I'm not sure that would work. You could replace the shooter with dualies, and you'd definitely have to include a brella somewhere. Maybe replace the splat bomb with a curling bomb or an auto bomb. As for Final Smash, maybe Ink Storm, Splashdown, or Tenta Missiles.
And if you really wanted to represent Splatoon 2 distinctly from Splatoon 1, you'd need some Annaki, Enperry, and Toni Kensa outfits.

>Shopping Spree, get stampeded by a bunch of woman running towards a clothing store (having a sale), when the now flattened fighter tries to get up, they get stampeded again when the crowd (with shopping bags) runs out of the store.
>Make Up Application Gone Wrong, the target fighter gets hit by giant versions of powerpuffs, mascara, lipstick no, not that one Panal de Pon fans and other make up items (each time they get hit it changes their full body color, so red lipstick turns an entire character red, not just their mouth area)
>The Catwalk targeted character is thrown onto a fashion catwalk and walked on by models
>Photo Shoot, targeted character is thrown in front a white photography stage , then hit with blinding camera flashes or hit with speech bubble insults from a fashion critic audience, overalls are so 1980's, how can you wear FUR!, Oh look a sword, how original . . . why not an axe or staff?, Are you trying to look like you're from the future?, Get back to your space ship, how about pants instead of a neck tie?

MG series has more games and history (and other bizarre/obscure knowledge the characters have) and has the 1 on 1 conversations so they are more focused.
Snake references/compares their MG history/encounters with the Smash fighters (like hearing Ness is psychic and then bringing up Psycho Mantis), fanboying with Otacon on other characters (Captain Falcon imitation), attraction to female characters (ZS Samus, Zelda), or his utter bafflement at weird characters quriks like Wario's farting, Yoshi's (male) egg laying or Pit having wings and not being a mutant. I also think Kojima had to approve all Brawl's codec's as well.
KI series only has the (silent) NES original , SSBB/SSE and (chatty) Uprising for conversation backstory. While Pit has conversations with mixes of Palutena (knowledge)/Viridi (mocking)/Dark Pit (rival) that aren't (mostly) 1 on 1. There's a few good ones and some interesting references like The Year of Luigi or "motion control being revolutionary" and some SSE references, I think the problem is that people expected more MG style codecs and Smash4 did something different with the Palutena's Guidance to be different.
