Squid 1 still has functioning free online multiplayer, but you need a Wii U (which I still play on often). I'm impressed by Cemu compatibility; as this guy managed to get it running the game this well on a fucking laptop, this could make way for easy access to playing Splatoon, even on the go or at least the closest we can get to it without going for a Switch. The main problem with Cemu is with online play, as you still have to dump data from your Wii U to online to play right now. We can circumvent that with the whole private servers idea, but the closest we have to emulating Nintendo Network right now is this GitHub project (https://github.com/PretendoNetwork), but considering the small amount of people working on it, and how the last bit of work on the main project was made on October 1, it's starting to look like a pipe dream at this point. The project is supposed to have Miiverse and cross Wii U-Cemu play, and account making has been verified working, so I still very have high hopes for its future. Then I can shitpost drawings once more with not-Miiverse, but now worry-free and with fellow 8ch anons, and play Tower Control with Eurobeat on a custom Beef Ravioli vs. Spaghetti & Meatballs Splatfest match while finally being able to use a keyboard and mouse.

I noticed the time of the day that you play changes the kind of players out. I got really drunk at 2 am and decided to play Splatoon 1 and had a blast. I was the 1st or 2nd best squid in every match, despite having underpowered gear and being, well, drunk as fuck. I actually noticed the opposite in my encounters, though I've been climbing through the lower ranks so it's probably different here. Around 12am-1am is where I see the most action. By action, I mean "how the FUCK could you know how to do that so efficiently at level 14". Well, without knowing the exact weapons and situations I can't give much except general advice.
Flank whenever you have the opportunity.
Keep your specials until you really need them.
Don't get cornered unless you know you can use it as bait to kill with the right sub or special.
Move as much as possible, making sure you're always near a spot you know an enemy can't get you so you can go back and forth.

This is good advice, but misapplied by most people in ranked/league. Remember two things. First, the time to start flanking is ten to fifteen seconds before you think "Man, a flank would be good right about now." Second, it's not a flank if nobody's holding the main line.

This depends strongly on which special you have and how fast you can build it. Tenta-missiles should be used every time they're available, enemies are up, and using them won't kill you. Splashdown can provide benefits even if you never use it in a match, because it deters enemies from getting close. Most others are somewhere between these two.

Forget getting cornered, I can't even get near them with the range of their weapons and one hit kill weapons even if I'm hiding in the ink I always seem to get sniped

I'm pretty half decent at dodging chargers usually but I still can't take them on because their gear makes all my shots worthless and even un-charged their damage is insane

Depending on the benefit per weapon, it's likely going to be extremely useful for some weapon types, and absolutely garbage for others. Less shot variance for a splattershot? Practically a waste.
Convince me to or not to use pic related. I tried it out a little in turf war and I found it to be a pleasantly different experience from faster shooters. Also, at worst, it's a three hit kill instead of five or six with a splattershot.

If you use it in the way that you would use another shooter, it's RNG: the gun. Your ability to aim almost doesn't matter because of the randomness of its shots. As long as you've got it pointed in somebody's general direction, you have a decent chance of a quick kill and a decent chance of everything missing entirely.
Where it excels, though not to the extent it did in the early Splatoon 1 meta because the spread is narrower now, is if you use it like a bucket. Fire from behind cover to drop shots on an area you know enemies will be. Because of the random spread, you have a good chance of hitting an enemy with at least some shots (unlike an accurate shooter, where you have to know pretty precisely where an enemy is to get hits or move around your aim to simulate random spread). It's a weapon that rewards map knowledge more than aiming or movement skill. It's also great in maps with tight spaces like Port Mackerel, where it's impossible to dodge it. Using the standard .96 gal on Port Mackerel Splat Zones is how I first got S+ in Splatoon 1.

The deco still has Splash Wall in 2, right? Go for both ink saver main and sub, and try to keep it as close to 1:1 as possible to reduce the diminishing returns effect. You can deviate a little to whatever you feel fits best with how you use your sub. Ink recovery up wouldn't help a lot because it's a long time before you can even start to refill after throwing a splash wall, so it's a low priority unless you're the kind of guy who just throws one for his teammates and then goes far away. Maybe throw in some Special saver and swim/run speed up if you want, depending on how many slots you have left after you're comfortable with how many shots you can normally get out of a tank.

Buy a Micro SD card and insert it. Change settings so screenshots are saved on there instead of on the switch itself.
Your switch has a screenshot button. It's the one with a square opposite side of the home button.
Press it, screenshot saved. Shut down switch, remove SD card, insert card into PC, copy file.
Some games, including spla2n, also allow a video capture. Hold the button and you save the last 30sec. You can edit the length of the video on the switch itself later.

Don't tell me how to live my life. I actually do have a switch, have had it for about a year already. Finally got around to booting RCM and putting ReiNX on a microSD card recently because I wanted to play the early leak of Smash Ultimate, and got homebrew working on it. I only somewhat regret not getting 2 when online was free.
The game is a step up from Wii U but much of the knockback and lack of combos don't make it much of an improvement. Didn't even look at Adventure mode, it really just looks like a barebones grindy mode with minimalistic fanfiction-type spirits shit thrown in. I fucked around with Inkling for a bit, they play ok. I acted like a piece of shit towards a cpu in the video. All those movements that I did throughout the match was the closest I could get to squidbagging. Refilling is absolute shit, one of the single worst mechanics in the game.

I had a weird dream last night.
I was at a department store and when I passed the games section I saw a Splatoon 2 cartridge selling for $30, the last one on the shelf. I jumped for it and when I took the cartridge there was a sheet of paper behind it. It had a bunch of details about Splatoon 3, mainly that it took place in the countryside and had an agriculture theme to it. I'm been trying and gotten those annoying 118-016 and 118-502 errors, yet MK8 (still capable of finding some players) and SSB4 (find no one) seem to connect to the Nintendo Network just fine.

It sets up a tunnel through your computer to a server which acts as a LAN host.
First, you need to download the PC client (http://www.lan-play.com/download). Then you need to follow the instructions for setting up the client under "Computer configuration" here (http://www.lan-play.com/install). On Windows, this includes installing WinPcap (https://www.winpcap.org/install/default.htm) before running the program.
When the program asks to enter the relay server address, you can enter whatever domain is hosting a LAN server (I tested with usplay.secretalgorithm.com:11451). Then it will ask for an "interface number". Enter the number that corresponds to the connection coming from your computer.
Once that's done, you have to manually configure a connection from your Switch. You have to set up a connection with the following:
IP Address Settings: Manual
IP Address: 10.13.xxx.xxx (xxx.xxx can be anything from 0.1 to 255.254 except 37.1)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Gateway: 10.13.37.1
DNS Settings I only used these two 90DNS servers to block Nintendo servers because I loaded ReiNX, but depending on if you've loaded CFW this may be irrelevant: Manual
Primary DNS: 163.172.141.219
Secondary DNS: 045.248.048.062
Once you entered all of that, save it and connect, it should go through quickly. Then just go to any game with LAN play and go to LAN mode (for most games it's holding down L + R + left analog where the local play option is supposed to be).
This method is version sensitive for each game. I found this out the hard way, as none of the games I had installed were up to date. The only way I was able to confirm that I got it working was with Mario Tennis Aces: I installed an nsp with the 1.2.0 update (latest seems to be 2.0.1) but it can apparently spot LAN matches for later versions. I tried to connect but it booted me out and prompted me to update. If you're not using pirate copies and not using CFW this shouldn't be a problem.

I have no idea whose idea it was to bundle Octo Expansion with the base 1.0.0 .xci file. Shouldn't an update have been required, considering it was released about a half a year afterward? By pure luck I managed to find the .nsp for the latest 4.3.0 update with the version I had on a frog torrent website, so I registered an account, got the torrent file for it, and installed it with Tinfoil on 6.1.0, setting it to ignore the firmware version. The installation worked out pretty smoothly. It may be worst version (yuropoor) but at least I managed to get the full package. LAN mode is in the Shoal: in the menu you have to press the Left analog stick, then hold L + R for 3 seconds.

Yes. Since it's technically LAN play, there's no Nintendo Switch Online or any telemetry involved, so CFW users can play with non-CFW, banned with non-banned, and paid with unpaid. The base content's value is all in the multiplayer. They've been adding stuff onto it for a year and a half now, it just got the final major update a week or so ago. Lots of stages, lots of weapons, lots of music, lots of fashion. There's the casual turf war mode, more competitive ranked modes, and the co-op horde shooter mode If you want single-player content that isn't shit you have to buy the expansion though.

It's a multiplayer game. The majority of the "content" is in you wanting to prove you're better than other players at this game. There's a good amount of tools to use, as well as maps and modes in which to prove your superiority.
Single-player is a glorified tutorial to prepare you for playing online. There's DLC that adds fun little challenges you can complete with some small cosmetic rewards, but I wouldn't say it's actually worth the money. Especially since you are now, also, paying for the online which was already FREE* for over a year after Splatoon 2's launch.

It's one of the only good shooters. The fact that you have the verticality of being able to swim up walls, hide in your own ink, etc adds a lot of depth. And the rounds are very fast paced.
Once I started playing Splatoon, I couldn't play games like Battlefield any more because they are too slow, boring, and simple. Competitive (S rank and higher) Splatoon is a ton of fun and you're always thinking and coming up with ways to win.
If you like competitive only shooters it doesn't get much better than Splatoon. If you want single player, it sucks. If you want casual online, it's ok. But ranked is a ton of fun and you will easily sink 60+ hours into it if you are serious about getting good.
Switch itself is starting to end up alright if you don't like Nintendo. Tales of Vesperia remaster is coming out in January, and there's some other good Japanese games I'm forgetting about that are coming.

If you already have a Switch and are desperate to try out a pretty fun online shooter, go for it. Single player sucks across the board, and piracy on 2 still consists of a niche audience, since Nintendo wasn't as braindead about it as they were on the Wii U.
If you don't, it depends on a lot of things. If Splatoon is all you want, you could get a preowned Pii U ($120-150) and pirate the first game (and every single other Wii U game) for free with no need to pay for online and no consequences, but no drawings, no updates, forced sniper meta, no switch games, and no new splatfests.

Your strategy looks fine, at least you pressed down on that roller as a last resort. I think your problem with getting that first splat was the timing, I usually have problems with that too. If you held out a tiny bit longer before hitting the button the squid would have been that much closer and you would have gotten the splat for sure.

Try out the dynamo first. If you can't stand the fling speed or weight of it, then go with kensa. If you can handle it better than any other roller, stick with the dynamo. If you equally like how both handle, go with whichever special you like better. You can always switch rollers as you please, for instance you could go with dynamo when you're pissed off and need to blow off steam by getting as many splats as possible. Ink armor could be more useful for clutch moments in the long run if you find yourself going into overtime often.

The classic squiffer is meta as fuck and gets people to throw their Switches at their walls. Your aim could be so horrific that you can't even get a spoonful of cereal without pouring the entire contents of the bowl onto your shirt, and every match you'll find yourself camping the opponent's spawn point within 30 seconds. And about half the time, after you throw the broken point sensor at them, they just stop in their tracks. When you buy a drink, your chance of getting particular 'abilities' when your gear levels up is multiplied.

I was kidding. I didn't want to reveal the metafag weapons because they're a crutch. Certain ones do not teach you how to play the game properly. Instead, they live in their own bubble where the core elements of the game do not apply to them. For some solid beginner options, consider Splattershot, Tentatek Splattershot, the two Tri Sloshers, Undercover Sorella Brella, Zink Mini Splatling, the two N-Zaps, Splattershot Jr., Neo Splash-o-matic, Splat Roller, Kensa Splat Roller, Splat Dualies, Kensa Dualies, or Enperry Dualies. These are all pretty easy to learn to use and are all good enough to be viable in the long run. You'll learn a lot of the basics using any one of these, see what you like and dislike about them, and can consider other options from that point on. Suggesting nozzlenoses, blasters, brushes, and heavier splatlings seems counter-productive, as they tend to have steeper learning curves and in some instances(with blasters for example) cause you to learn bad habits. Some of the kits are steep to learn, too. I don't recommend a beginner using splash walls, ink mines, beakons, or toxic mist starting out. While some of those sub weapons are useful with the right strategy, they're not optimal for beginners. Splat bombs and burst bombs are also versatile and a great starting point for beginners. Specials like ink armor, ink storm, baller, splashdown, and tenta missles are pretty newbie friendly and(mostly) universally viable with easier learning curves(maybe not baller. buff baller pls).

The squiffer definitely has potential, but it's not a weapon you can just go straight to the high ranks with. You need to be more accurate with your aim than many traditional shooters, and more aware of your range than most of the other chargers (the same could be argued of the Bamboozlers). Also, since others can see your pointer, you need to improvise how you aim at higher levels (point at the sky, pretend to aim somewhere else, etc.), since enemies can move and decrease your chance of a splat if they notice it. You can see >>15871376 for squiffer footage. Many people prefer to use other kits that come with rebranded weapons, so they would go with a Fresh Squiffer instead. The Point Sensor, while good for playing mind games and coordinating your aim, doesn't do direct damage to opponents, and that puts many people off.
The dualies have been the weapon of choice for a good majority of players for months on end. The recent timeline went something like Custom Dualie Squelchers -> Enperry Splat Dualies -> (I didn't really keep up with it after that). The main advantages they have over other weapons are the double reticle and the ability to perform a Dodge Roll, which makes for great movement and kill options in the right circumstances. You do a dodge roll by hitting the jump button and pointing the left stick in any direction while on the ground. Other good weapons to start with including the splattershots, n-zaps, and standard rollers.
If you want a spammy weapon, you could go for one of the blasters with a fast fire rate, such as the Luna/Rapid/Clash blasters, but you'll generally be looked down upon by using them thoughtlessly.

It's a shame they needed you to use more subs than the first game to get it though (the threshold is 2 mains 7 subs). Also, for Mk II the not-disruptor sub sucks but the burst bomb launcher more than makes up for it.

My new wired adapter came in, and it was a bit of an eye opener.

The upload speed is pretty consistent regardless of connection type, but it's disheartening to see my download speed was significantly faster than wired with my old adapter. Also, there's a bottleneck somewhere because my up/down speeds should be faster than listed.

Shit, wouldn't you have to use another USB connector for the switch's port? The wired adapter would have been severely limited if it had USB 2.0 anyway.
The Switch is testing the connection to the Nintendo servers, rather than a server close to you, so speeds might be a little lower than expected. How much higher are the speeds you're supposed to be getting?

Bamboozler short tap tested at 40.0 damage with 3 mains 9 subs, half charge somewhere around 60.0. Meanwhile, squiffer and 4k scope range increase is completely laughable.
Also, all these uninkable spots are an absolute pain in the ass.

How many hours did you even manage to get?
I got completely tired of it after about a week, and this was mostly completing the roster and trying classic out, maybe looking at a few extras. It got to the point where halfway through I had to set the bunny hat, heavy weight, and low knockback in custom smash to get any enjoyment out of it, and it still didn't feel right. This was about an hour and a half before the game came out, so I guess playing with CPUs burns you out quicker, but it still felt like shit to play through. I didn't even touch adventure mode, and don't plan on doing so.
To each his own, though.
The replay function fucking sucks, too.
