Tried out Splashtop and it works pretty well. While the streamed desktop doesn't take up the whole screen, it works very well for the most part. Especially when playing old VNs like ToHeart 2 where the full screen stretches the window instead of keeping its aspect ratio. If you have a torrent running however, the sound will be distorted. Otherwise it's pretty reliable I think.

These are some screen caps I went through and retook last year sometime. The tomboy was best girl, and the librarian was pretty good. I also really liked Konomi but I never finished he route. Yeah that was pretty stupid, I wish they had her with the glasses the entire time. I saw the stupid forced drama though. Its probably best if you move on, as the post game routes that were unlocked we're that great. I don't know about it though, really really liked the story telling when I played it and still do now. Though there was so many things that I found were hateable, it was still pretty great. That must be what makes good writing though. I really wish you could have gone for Konomi's friends.

Will there ever be a patch for Demonbane to get all of its PS2 content ported and translated instead of just voices? I haven't read all of Demonbane because of the black screen bug, but I've heard that the PS2 version is superior, as it includes new scenes and music, embed related. If nothing ever comes, I might get up, finally learn Japanese and how to code, read the PS2 release, and make the damn patch myself. Imports for the PS2 version isn't that expensive anyway.

This is true but it has an obvious and justifiable reasoning. If the story already dictates that you are in a relationship from the getgo, it then becomes drastically harder to get the player into a position to choose another girl, to say nothing of frustration you'd feel if the original girl is a shit. However, this has potential to be quite the untapped market for NTR. It'd be rather original to have an MC in a loving relationship with someone, but the games route progression is a series of regressive moral decisions and fall from grace until you're blatantly cheating on the OG girl.

From what I understand it's probably event based (?) as in you get enough events with the girl and she'll come to like you and you can confess. The fairy that accompanies you in the game has the ability to tell you whether or not the girl digs you at all, so there's a safety net I suppose. I used to do some translations myself, so I understand the sentiment very well.
A lot of people I knew would leave certain foreign words intact and not bother because "it just works" and everyone understands the meaning anyway.
However, keeping too many words like that can make reading any work feel very awkward.
Ultimately, a translated text should read as if it were written in the target language in the first place.
For popular Jap media like VNs and animus, I'd honestly leave terms like "onii-chan" in not just because everyone knows what they mean but because having them is appreciated and desired.
Anything else like a live action film or a proper book ought to be translated fully though.

Recent MG work I tried was Hapymaher (2 routes) and it was serviceable. I don't remember any particular instance that stuck out as clashing.
With Sol Press, I only skimmed through Newton. Something that stuck out (in promotional material, even) is that they use a different romanization system, so the MC is 'Syuji'. Pic related: Sol Press's upcoming release with Arunaru power. I'm still surprised they're going to release a title like this one… it even has a lolimama route.
Then there's Nekonyan… We already know the BAZINGA in Fureraba, and aside from that there's the recent Sanobawitch. It wasn't as blatantly 'weird' like Fureraba was, and since the game has dual text support it's great to compare stuff on the fly. Generally it was good, but there was a particularly notable change in pic related #2. This part was even connected to a choice - right after the last line, Meguru asks if it's weird and you can tell her 'yeah, it is' or 'don't worry about it'.

Pretty much indeed. And it doesn't really take EXTREME Japanese knowledge to notice, since Meguru's third person speech can be heard in that, and other scenes. There are no stuffed animals to discuss, it's all about Meguru referring to herself as such, and asking if that's weird.
Sukisuki's Spanish is in the (unvoiced) MC lines, so it's harder to catch. I get the 'Persona 3' intention (Mitsuru using French) but it's not really a surefire solution for a translation. Now, 'dude' on the other hand has absolutely no place nor sense. It's freaking retarded. Nobody can seriously think of defending such a choice.
Thankfully, it's being worked on. If I find a working script toolset, I'll dive into that myself, even.

So Amane Suzuha travels to the past after discovering that Daru is her father, and in the letter that Okabe receives (the one telling she don guffed), her name is Hashida Suzuha, but when Okabe sends the D-Mail so she goes to the past before the time machine is damaged even further by the rain, her name still is Hashida, even though she shouldn't know about her dad, guess it was just a little plot hole?
Why did sending that email to Farris father avert his death? It was quite simplistic compared to the other triggers, he just needed to not get in the plane? I guess that was the trigger since he is the only one that dies in the crash or maybe not having the IBN5100 changed something further on.
That part about Beta Suzuha disappearing after reaching Steins;Gate didn't make any sense to me. Wouldn't it completely screw the Reversible Reboot ending? Also what happened with the time machine?
This one is probably me not paying attention, but why did deleting the email in CERN's database change the future? They hadn't seen it yet in their server?
Not really a question but just a comment now, getting to see future Nae was pretty nice, but kinda of bullshit. Farris ending is creepy( not really the best word for describing it), with how no one knows Okabe except her and the fact that the divergence meter exists in that timeline.

Suzuha still being Hashida Suzu when her D-mail is undone might have something to do with Reading Steiner, but that's never elaborated upon.
Farris' dad was killed in a plane crash, but the D-mail made him take the bullet train instead when he thought she was kidnapped.
I don't know about the time machine, but I think it might still exist in Irreversible Reboot because it might be a paradox worldline. I could be wrong though. The Irreversible Reboot ending is the one I want to see spinoffs of since it's the one worldline nobody gets to see.
I asked this same question before. SERN had yet to see the original D-mail when ECHELON had it, so deleting it before they could find it would change the worldline.
>SERN notices the original D-mail through usage of the ECHELON system, which was checking for time-machine related content (or possibly Makise Kurisu related content, since the original D-mail contained nothing time or time machine related except for the future send date). The text content of this D-mail that was recorded by ECHELON was stored inside SERN's hidden IBN 5100 database, and had to be deleted in order to cross the 1.0% divergence.
Glad you really liked it, I loved it myself, but I was on and off during the slow first half. If you're going to go through S;G0, just know that it's not nearly as good as the original, although there are, at least, some good parts. Here's hoping that Chaos;Head Noah and Robotics;Notes makes it here too.

They both get sent back to 18000 BC because the time machine malfunctioned. It is presumed that 0kabe stays behind and dies. Some people theorize that the dream Okabe had with Mayuri at the beginning of time was actually a memory from 0kabe, gradually Reading Steiner-ing his way into SG Okabe or something like that.

It's jarring as hell. The VN is translated to English, so obviously the player is expected to know English. Even a newcomer to JP media would instantly notice something wrong with the audio when reading the supposed 'German' that Mahiru is clearly pronouncing in Eng(r)ish.
Some compare (and justify) this by using the Atlus Persona 3 example, where Mitsuru uses French phrases in the localized version instead of English. However, in P3's case, the game was fully dubbed, so what the player hears is consistent with the dialog boxes ('Tres bien', 'Magnifique', etc), so the end product at least is consistent and appears to be professional.
This random language fuckery on Sukisuki on the other hand is anything but professional. If the game was voiceless it'd be less jarring, but then again, people who knew the original game and played it would notice.
Several 'obscure' JP terms (if you can call them that) are left as-is in the translation, so the 'we want to make things accessible to everyone' excuse doesn't stick. VNs are niche enough already - you'd expect people to know these terms, and in the worst case you can always google whatever JP foodstuff or what the not is being mentioned in-game.
Finally, DUDE is just wrong. Absolutely, ridiculously wrong.

That's the most jarring thing, the translation can't seem to decide how "accessible" it wants to be. Case in point: some weird inconsistencies with radishes. Sometimes they leave it as daikon, sometimes it's translated to radish, and in one scene they translated to sausage (presumably because it was being used as a metaphor for dick, and sausage is the standard western dick metaphor). In every case the voice line simply said daikon.
There's a whole load of other shit like this too. It feels like five different people translated this VN without talking to each other.

Clannad is slow from memory. If you want that happy ending, and you do, you need to go through each individual path to get the orbs of light. Is worth it to to get that final ending.
The analogy for Clannad I use is that it lulls you into a false sense of security with the first half school stuff then rips out your heart and crushes it in front of you with the afterstory and replaces it with it's own heart, you'll get to live but you'll know it's not your heart.
As for depressing, stuff like Swan Song I stay away from. I don't mind dark stories, it's why I bloody like Grisaia but even that's too dark for me. Look up bad endings with stories?

I remember the animation had more of an impact, with the music, voices and everything. The Afterstory hitting like a mac truck while Daikazuku plays but the VN itself is a complete experience. And the animation cut several of the side stories out, only Kyou, Nagisa and Tomoyo have focus with a few episodes dedicated to side stories like Kotomi and the like but the VN had the more completed path and they skipped over Yukine from memory. Think they got Toshio in one episode but the animation does have this bad case of hopping between paths before settling on Nagisa.

I love the Steins;Gate VN and think it's better than the animation but I know people that prefer the animation. Obviously not having the other paths is a given but it doesn't really make or break it if the other paths aren't that particularly special.

I've played and watched Steins;gate, both of them. The first one is pretty similar to the vn but of course, it's an anime so it'll leave out some details, like clannad it's better to just view both but the Stein's;gate visual novel is best to be viewed first and then the anime because there is a lot more detail and shit in it.

That's what Clannad and Steins have in common I think. Their animations are excellent and cover alot of the main story and it has more of an impact seeing the characters move around and act like Okabe acting like he does or Sunohara falling down the dust shoot (That scream is perfect). Now that same scene would take 20 minutes in a VN and doesn't have that same impact.

A lot of them just went from fan translators to "professional" translators. Sekai loves buying fan translations just as they get to completion (and then sitting on them for years for some reason). Both MG and Jast have hired a number of fan translators. Even Fakku scoops up fan translators when they can.
