>turn-based games
FFT.
It's really grind-friendly with random encounters being scaled with your level, job system and new party members joining at fixed levels.
I'm not huge fan of turn-based games though.
>real-time games
Grinding in real-time might sound like moba shit, but good old Crimsonland does exactly that, does it right and does it very good.
>single player games
Though it has some co-op functionality I believe, still one of the most grindy games I played all alone was Risk of Rain. Getting final boss info card was real bitch.
>local/lan/optional multiplayer/co-op games
Back when I still had friends, we used to play Dynasty Warriors 4 a lot. Unlocking new characters was really fun.
These days I would play some EDF or maybe ROR, but my ping is usually too high.
>unconventional games
Binding of Isaac. It has this meta progression that gave birth to the entire "roguelite" meme, but it was amazing at the time. Unlocking more options instead of raw power is some of the best incentives to keep playing.

That "green brute" silhouette looks vaguely familiar.
Is that one of those first person turn-based dungeon crawlers?

My favorite always online grinding game has microtransactions, but you can avoid them entirely by grinding. Lord of the Rings Online. No instant gratification unless you count me posting this in your thread despite your wishes because fuck you.

It is. You have a party of 12 characters that you can switch in and out at will, even during combat. They all have different skills, base stats and resistances. You can improve stats of different characters with levels, equipment and directly with money from encounters, which gives you more control over what stats you get. Base game is really hard and postgame is much worse.

After i have a working formula i usually lose interest.

I don't understand why anyone would play JRPGs (LRPGs specifically) for the grind, when some WRPGs like TES or Ultima at least give you some useful side shit like Alchemy, Enchantments, Spellmaking, Identification and so on to pay off and make your future grinding better and more experimentable.
Can i get a better and less subjective explanation than "It's fun"?

>20 job classes, each character can have one main class with two sub classes

You can go complete fucking autism with the party build in the game to make some unholy powerful teams. It's a shame we never got the expanded version that included more content and fixed the loadtime/framerate problems.

You can make games where skill matters. For example, in Touhou games you "grind" but it's not about stats and seeing the same few animations a million times over. It's about you getting good at the game.

There is a difference between willpower, which is being able to do a task despite your lizard brain's protests, and addiction, which is letting your lizard brain dictate what tasks you do. Grinding in a video game is not an overcoming of the self, it is pathological and reflects no development in self-control or delaying gratification; you simply use the task to tickle your pleasure receptors with simple goal-success stimuli, dull yourself to other thoughts, and kill time, though there is nothing that you are waiting for and certainly nothing waiting on you.

>thinking man's pleasure
>re-using game journalist's description for Bioshock Infinity
Children and normals play grind games because they are often hooked on the mechanisms that instigate addictive play without a developed sense of consciousness and self-restraint. You can also get an animal to play a simpler game of chance, e.g the pigeon in a box pressing a button for food, and develop similar compulsive behavior.
Maybe you're a tier above in wanting more respectable business practices, but grinding by itself isn't particularly transcendental. The games are carefully designed to exploit certain psychological tendencies.

There's no point where you can comfortably stop grinding either, like in Elder Scrolls. What I hate about survival games (roguelike included) is they constantly put you on the edge, they have no end reward.

9d0753 No.15756675
ADHD monkeys itt fail to grasp the basic difference between old-school hardcore grinding and modern mobage skinnerboxing.
You don't do repetitive shit, you do different shit.
You don't get instant gratification, you need to put effort and patience into it to get anything at all.
You don't get to skip the grind, you get to keep the grind.
I bet you (1)s can't even tell the difference between Monster Hunter and some trash like warframe or granblue.
And yes, you have to have at least IQ of 120 in order to appreciate proper well-balanced grinding.
It's because of subhumans like you the word "grinding" became derogatory in the first place.
