Underwater combat! Get rid of that swimming bullshit that no one finds useful or interesting and add stages that are COMPLETELY UNDERWATER! It functions much the same as above ground combat, just floatier. Instead of double jumps, you press the jump button to do paddles and gradualy ascend You can do this as much as you like. Generally stages that have this mechanic will have an above ground component as well as an underwater component.
EX Moves! Taken from Street Fighter, this mechanic is basically Cloud's limit break as a universal mechanic that can be used by everyone. Fill up your Smash gauge and press A+B simultaneously with a direction to do an enhanced version of your special move! Everyone's has different properties so use this to really put the hurt on your opponents.
KARAOKE MODE
Beat the classic mode and play a special karaoke minigame with your character! Press the buttons at the right time to make them sing along to whatever song is playing (songs and lyrics are always unique depending on the character), and perform well for the audience to unlock great rewards like costume pieces and alternate colors!
Party games! Stages like Warioware and Panel de Pon now have full on modes revolving around them. Compete against people on the Warioware stage to complete the most minigames before the time runs out! Play Panel de Pon against opponents using your own attacks on the panels to move them around! Ride on top of F-Zero cars in the Melee Big Blue stage and grab the boost powerups to make sure your car crosses the finish line first! These new modes all add a ton of variety to your typical Smashing.

Speaking of DLC. I can think of full features not added in Ultimate that could be added into the base game with a huge update.
Stage Builder Package: Don't just make battlefields. Also make Break the Targets, Board the Platforms, and Race to the Finish/SSE Level challenges on top of typical smash battles? They can use the GUI from Mario Maker as a template as well. And the stage builder itself will use parts and themes from other existing stages to make player created mish-mash of themes.
Smash Marathon which is Smash Run but all players in a world where they can Smash each other when they're encountered. You can fight in a battle royale or in teams. It can be played split screen on a single switch with four players. OR with twin Switches you can have EIGHT players, with four players on each Switch. You can also connect a third Switch as a spectator server on the docked TV so everyone can see themselves on the map at once thanks to LAN connection. Or else Smash Marathon can be played online with Friends only with voice chat on at all times. Smash Marathon won't have an online competitive mode with strangers due to the limitations of undocked Switches and joycons. That is until the official limited edition wireless "Gamecube Pro" controller is released.
On a twist to Smash Run collecting power ups Smash Marathon includes collecting randomized dropped spirits which you can set or drop in your three slots like World of Light. Smash Marathon will also include stages with bosses and puppet fighters possessed by spirits that have those properties on the map itself. It will also include regular enemies from a variety of games, from fighting polygons and wireframes, to SSE bugs, to enemies from Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Kirby, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy, Megaman, Sonic, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, and more. These enemies and assets will also use the same level engine as the Stage Builder where they're procedurally generated every run.

The reason why Adventure mode in Melee was better than SSE is because Adventure mode actually had stages from Nintendo games. As opposed to SSE which just had some land mass, clouds, futuristic scenery, etc. Like the cutscenes were nice, but the mode itself was just a way to unlock characters quicker. If anything they should've went with the spirits idea, but use the extra resources on more characters and had the adventure mode stages but in a random structure until the end. Like you'd start off in the Mushroom Kingdom then you go through eight random stages and then you do Battlefield, Fighting Polygon Team, Rival and then Boss version of said Rival as the final boss.
That said I do love the idea of spirit battles since event mode was great in Melee. That said World of Lights resources would've been better spent on a proper adventure mode and separate event mode rather than a full blown story mode. Additionally, the game is rushed as fuck. It should've been out next year, but Nintendo realized they didn't have anything for late 2018 and that the new Pokemon game is a huge risk, so they needed a safe bet and they got it with Smash Bros.

They could technically release an EX version with all the features included later. But they can also release an "expansion pack" like Snipperclips and Sonic Mania that installs the extra features on top of the base base game for $19.99 instead of buying a new version of the game for $59.99. Sure early adopters may get screwed but this is content not made or finished before the base game was out. Which is why it's an expansion pack to add to the game, not downloadable content cut from the game's final release to resell to nickle and dime you.
The package could also be released as a stand-alone game that can be booted separately from the main game. But if you want a traditional Smash experience you get the base game like Farcry Blood Dragon or Torna the Golden Country for XC2.

There's one thing that people haven't realized about the spirit battles though.
You can have local VS multiplayer with another human being using their effects, you could have crazy, possibly one sided matches against a human opponent in an Event Match like battle at any time, on any stage with the available characters.
I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes the long, lasting replay feature of the game is coming up with crazy asymmetrical spirit battles conditions and then fighting it out against friends and balancing out the losing players by letting them (honor rules/house style style) use better spirits to fight with.

So besides the fact that this is just another thinly veiled "MUH MOVESET POTENTIAL" bullshit argument, it's also just more speculative reasoning that you can't prove. There is no reason to assume they can't come up with ideas for a moveset for her, they've demonstrated they're able to improvise stuff with a good enough character design, in the event that they're not able to reproduce aspects of their home game into their gameplay. Lip has plenty to work with for a moveset, either by basing it on her lore (her flower-based fairy magic)) or by basing it on the gameplay (throwing out panels, building stacks of them and exploding them, dropping garbage blocks on people,.flipping them around with the swap cursor, running on rainbows in the air, etc.) Just because you're imaginatively bankrupt doesn't mean they are, if anything they've proven the contrary with characters like Wii Fit Trainer, Duck Hunt and the fucking Pirahna Plant.

Well yeah, that's the main issue with Smash Bros right now. a ton of casuals and young people want it to be MUGEN rather than a Nintendo Crossover game. Like if you look at the polls and everything else online, you'll see that most of the characters are from third party franchises that really have no business being in Smash. Like most people don't seem to understand that IF you make all of the newcomers third parties then it loses its own identity. Smash Bros is about Nintendo first and foremost, the third party characters are a treat, but they shouldn't be abused either. I think they way they have them as assist trophies is a good idea, make characters like Shovel Knight, Shantae, Steve, Sans, etc. into Assist Trophies rather than playable characters. Like the only third parties I want in the game are Reimu, Quote, Dante and KOSMOS. The last two being because Snake, Cloud and Bayonetta are in the game, and that KOSMOS would be better than fucking Elma and would sit nicely next to Rex and Shulk. In any case Sakurai has a ton of material to work with, he can even make characters like Ray MK III and Takamaru using existing assets, however he chooses not to in order to appeal to these casual gamers who don't even know Nintendo other than Mario and Zelda.

I'd also make his run animation faster and like Yoshi's Island. Faster in the air. Change his 2nd jump to be spammable like Yoshi's Island and change egg throw to be a real recovery (helicopter transformation, etc). make egg throw B, and side B can be tongue. I'd buff Ground Pound to have less end lag too, as a safe landing option.

I'd vote Krystal because staff, but she's an AT now. So instead I will vouch for Slippy unironically. First, all of Slippy's melee attacks will use a wrench. Which means he has more melee hitting power than Fox, Falco, and Wolf at the cost of speed. Second Slippy can be a fighter based on short hopping tactics and pulling surprise weapons when you least expect it. When Slippy uses a reflector, he ducks and covers his ass. If you're not careful it will leave your front vulnerable. But this is intentional for mind games because the ass guard will throw opponents off. It also has more force than Fox's and Falco's reflectors too. Instead of an illusion-type attack Slippy will use grena-greades, which are sticky frog grenades that bounce until they land on an opponent and explode. Also Slippy's recovery would be longer to start up and difficult to control to show Slippy sucks at flying, but gives more air-time and is controllable in the general direction. That said, Slippy's "twin blasters" unlike Fox and Falco will have a charge shot and lock-on. You can also tap B for a rapid burst fire instead of charging. If you're locked on by the blaster charge shot it'll follow you so be careful. Slippy will also blank shot with his twin blasters on aerial attacks gangster style.

Here's an idea, wait for the DLC to be completely announced before picking up the game and don't buy paid online. The lack of trophies makes sense from a design point of view. If they want to keep adding to the game for 8+ years which is how long Nintendo plans to run the Switch into the dirt, they're going to need to save as much space as possible. The file size for Smash 4 was roughly 15.7gb and included 716 trophies if you exclude DLC. It's hard to gauge exactly how much memory the models take up since they range from 86kb to 950kb, but for the sake of argument lets say that all of the models are 86kb. That's a minimum of 61.575mb. Mewtwo alone is only 6.4mb. I didn't include the other 6 characters since I don't know the file sizes for the stages that Ryu and Bayo come with, but if all characters are 7mb then that means they can store at least 8 new characters on the minimum trophy size alone.

Couple of problems with that line of reasoning.
First Star Wars has always been complete dog shit. Or at least it has been for longer than it's ever been good at this point.
Second, it was always marketed as being a space fantasy, not straight sci-fi. A lot of things that appear in Star Fox games are based on real theoretical principles of science fiction, such as the orbiting ring station in Star Fox Zero. There's actually a fair bit of sound logic that goes on behind everything in the SF universe, most of it being based on actual ideas presented in scifi. Then Rare came in and shoehorned in their fantasy bullshit at the last second - SFA wasn't originally supposed to be a Star Fox game and they just slapped the brand on for marketing purposes.

What if the "magic" on Dinosaur Planet is "technology misunderstood". This is better suited for the Star Fox Lore thread but that's dead at the moment. I thought about how to make Dinosaur Planet lore work in a Star Fox reboot.
The spell stones are literally stones carved in dark matter, which in itself is Sci-Fi. The magical energy within Sauria itself can be a phenomena caused when the moon impacted the world millions of years ago to create the sharp claw. The Krazoa spirits were a super advanced alien technological civilization akin to the Chozo who came to settle on the planet but got destroyed when the moon fell. So the Krazoa helped accelerate the evolution of the natives with what little technology they had. To keep the dinosaurs from abusing the tech, they call it "magic" to keep it mysterious and from being reverse engineered because religion. The only dinosaurs that did not adhere to the religion 100% are the Sharp Claw, whom are the sentient humanoid animal species destined to dominate the planet. Andross knew the other dinosaurs would keep the Sharp Claw down. So after his defeat in Star Fox 64, he sent one of his back up brain computer heads masking as the Krazoa God to persuade the Sharp Claw that they are the chosen race destined to conquer the planet and the stars. Thus starts the events of Dinosaur Planet. If Dinosaur Planet does get remade, I want guns. Krystal can keep her staff but Fox will have his blaster and bombs because Sharp Claw will have Venomian weapons too.
As for what happens to Andross. He has a "ghost" in command. This ghost could be because of his merger with the Krazoa spirit energy that keeps him from ascending to hell. Who knows, maybe Andross can possess some space junk and come back as a mechanical space lich. He's a giant floating spectral head at this point.
The problem is iI know Treehouse will localize space lich Andross to be Donald Trump to use his new grass seeds empire to "Make Lylat Great Again".

There's lots of potential for a great scifi story here. Yet Nintendo three of these deep lore scifi universes (Star Fox/F-Zero/Metroid) and doesn't do anything interesting with any of them. At best they just keep retreading old ground.

Nah, I think the Cerinians were colonists and scientists who came to Sauria before Andross's Venomian empire. Crystal was native because she was born on the planet. But for some reason the ecosystem mutated her, making her one of a kind to herself and her peers. Well, there were probably other children as well like Krystal, but they were wiped out by Andross's forces in the Lylat Wars. This is why Krystal has a massive hate boner for Andross and why she knows he's behind the corruption of the Krazoa and the Sharp Claw.
And on one hand, the Sharp Claw did nothing wrong. They wanted to understand why the moon fell and they became what they were, why they are different from the other primitive dinosaurs. On the other hand, Sharp Claw are practically niggers in Africa. They were probably the first to have hostile relationships with the Cerinians colonists because they wanted, which blacklisted them from further contact. Which is what Andross used to help further persuade the Sharp Claw to take over Sauria for and seed his new empire. The Sharp Claw were so egotistic to prove they were the apex predator of the planet that instead of opening communication with the colonist they simply attacked them. It wasn't enough to kill anyone. But it damaged the communication to Corneria and thus they went missing for decades.
If I were to add a fifth member to Star Wolf to balance the Player Avatar joining Star Fox, it would be a sharp claw, possibly General Scale's son. Game play reasons he would have technology similar to Krystal's magic and excel in close quarters combat for balance. Otherwise his true motivation for leaving Sauria is that after having a taste of space travel as a child he cannot stand living alongside brain-drain dino-niggers. If he has to become one of Lylat's most wanted to leave his shithole planet then so be it.

When it comes to both variety and popularity Shy Guy would have been the more obvious choice for a generic enemy. They have so many variants and portrayals to pull from it's insane (not even counting other enemies like Snifits which could also be incorporated into the Shy Guy moveset), they have gotten an insane push since their inception and especially the Wii/Wii U era, to the point where they rival the iconicness of the Goomba and Koopa Troopa. They are also major enemies both in Mario and Yoshi,
Piranha Plant is overall just slightly more unique and has more going for it for Sakurai since it isn't a bipedal creature. Shy Guy being a bipedal is the only thing holding him back and likely why it will never be picked.

All I know that's coming up is the new Fire Emblem. No Zelda, no Mario (but there is Luigi's Mansion), no Kirby, Metroid Prime 4 but Metroid only gets shit on in Smash, no new Donkey Kong, there's the Yarn Yoshi game but who gives a fuck, Xenoblade 2 already fucked over. Piranha plant is a common foe from the mario games and it's moveset if made up of things that other members of it's species do.
Ridley was the subject of memes and his moveset is comprised of things he did in either the manga or offshoot media with only his bouncing fireballs being from the actual franchise he's from.

Ridley is ingrained in my and everyone else's memory as "the never ever character" and the fact that he's in Smash as a playable character now almost makes me feel as though we're in some alternate timeline. Even Sakurai had said he would never happen.
Piranha Plant is a character no one even gave a passing thought to, and the whole shock and appeal of the character is that very fact. Ridley, on the other hand, is a character that's been debated over and has been a boss character for so long that now that he's finally playable, I'm still having a hard time getting used to the fact that he IS playable.
I'm not saying that Ridley being playable is a bad thing. Far from it. I'm absolutely fucking ecstatic as I'm a big Metroid fan myself, but even I gave up all hope for him as a playable character because I didn't see any way the "too big" argument could be disproved.

Well, I got to play a demo kiosk. Waited in line for about 20 minutes each time to play a 2:30 timed match on a random stage. It feels really good. Richter's whip comes out of fucking nowhere and you will make everyone on the field paranoid to be half a screen length away from you. Ridley is actually really fun because he addresses all the problems with being a super-heavy character. With judicious use of his B>, he can be surprisingly mobile.
The only thing I didn't like is that we were playing with Final Smash Meter on, and they fill up pretty quickly, so with 4 players there's about a minute of normal gameplay and then the rest of the match is dotted with FS spam. The Nintendo reps there were actually taking feedback, and I told them there should be options for how fast it fills and what percentage strength of a normal FS the meter versions should output, which they really liked the idea of. So maybe in a future software patch or something.

I know you kept it off the list deliberately just to spite me but it won't work faggot. Panel de Pon is easily higher on the list than Excite or Wave Race as there is more personality and gameplay potential from that game than in either of those ones.
Although I've always maintained Wave Race should have a stage based on the Southern Island/Sunny Beach tracks that takes place on a speeding yach, with swells from the water and waves making the yacht tilt up and down and some waves even potentially washing off fighters. Waveracers themselves occasionally passs by acting as destructible platforms, and if you fall offstage sometimes you get saved by a dolphin. it was a did you know gaming episode about the WiiU super smash bros. He ignored that Sakurai basically said it'd take time and effort to make ridley good and he wanted to focus on other characters (he even quotes this) but then says "he's just too big" in a flagrant disregard of what he JUST said.
