I don't have a great write-up for this thought or anything, I just really wish games like Neversoft's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games were still made.

Not games like the Skate series that focus on more realistic physics and zoom in on your character's feet, but fun games like Aggressive Inline that feel more like a video game and less like a damn simulator.

STEEP was and is okay for what it is, but realistically downhill is the only direction to go and it limits a lot of free roaming fun and arcade-style trick creativity.

THUG Pro is really cool too, but I can't play the same set of levels with the same muddy low-fidelity PS2 graphics and enjoy it the same as I did when the games were first coming out.

I just want video games to be fun again.

I like the idea of using Skitching as a fast travel system, and long segments between areas could be used for race challenges otherwise.

Hover: Revolt of Gamers (I hate the name too) did fairly well with its world, it was bigger than your average Tony Hawk level and felt more open in a lot of areas. The idea of expanding the map UPWARDS for higher verticality rather than OUTWARDS, especially for an extreme sports game, just makes a lot more sense. Too bad the game is terrible in every other aspect from artstyle to total lack of interactive environments and lack of character customization entirely. Even the music is shit aside from the one or two songs they somehow got Hideki Naganuma to make for them.

Fuck you Skate is the truth the way and the light. Skate killed THPS and rightfully so. Fuck tony.

I just wish Skate would ramp up the crazy. They ramped it down in 3. The realistic physics is what would make the crazy even more fun.

Like, don't get me wrong, Skate series is actually pretty decent, but the genre just fucking evaporated because of a clusterfuck of both

Tony Hawk series being stuck on Last Gen and (I could be wrong, but this is what I had heard) nearly all the PC versions of the games being stuck on like, Sports game collection discs. A difference I kind of pose is that Tony Hawk occupies more of an "Arcade Style Skateboarding Game" which exists somewhat parallel to "Realism Skating Game" and unfortunately due to mostly, hardware related issues, the Genre with better overall longevity ended up trapped in a system generation.

The Skate games are the pinnacle of the genre so far. They did the best at actually recreating the feeling of skating. I'm not sure there is much more could be done other than giving you more control over your legs and their interaction with the board to allow more creativity beyond standard tricks though. Skating lost a lot of mainstream popularity, although it is still thriving with those really interested in it, so I doubt many more games will be made due to lack of incentive to invest in it. "Session" is the only one I know of.

No joke incoming…if you like oldschool skate games and can accept easy difficulty and next to no tricks, then check out Turbo. This game has really great level design, with tons of secrets and alternative routes. Not as crazy as Aggressive Inline, but still big and fulfilling to explore. I mean it's a kids game with a shitty license, but Monkey Bar Games did the best they could with it and it helped keeping the hunger for more skating down a little.

I'll be honest, i'm not too upset by this, I mean I would love it if a true Tony Hawk game was magically announced one day.

But i'm content that the series was more then just a "celebrity endorsed sports game" It had heart, soul, and a run of great games that lasted longer then they really should of.

I'm glad I can always think back to the ending of American Wasteland where my character got to build the world most bad ass skate park and Got the girl in the end, and can just feel good.
