I love a Star Fox.
My dream Star Fox game would go something like this:
Story:
>It would be called Star Fox Mercenaries and would be all about pursuing a mercenary career in the Lylat System
>Story timeline would proceed after the defeat of Andross, the Venomian Empire is still causing problems around the system but some Venomians are seeking amnesty on Corneria-controlled worlds, which creates a hostile political climate (some Cornerians are like "no amnesty for Venomians" because of the things they did)
>In his death throes Andross unleashed an army of his experiments and commanders to wreak havoc on the Lylat System, and other new threats are emerging as well, such as mysterious extradimensional enemies from beyond the Lylat System
Gameplay:
>Pursue a career doing missions around Lylat, visiting worlds and getting paychecks for doing stuff
>You have monthly expenses like food and paying off the mortgage on the Great Fox, and your money is constantly being eaten so you need to stay ahead of the curve by doing mercenary missions for money
>Mission payout is based on difficulty, easier missions pay less while harder ones pay more - all missions have quotas and offer bonuses if you surpass them, such as getting a pay bonus for every ten enemies you kill past the enemy quota
>Start off with three team members (Fox, Slippy, Peppy) and add more members to the payroll, and give orders to them during missions ala Rogue Squadron (tell them to focus their fire on certain targets or defend mission critical points) - they're actually useful this time around
>Learn DEEPEST LORE about the characters and the worlds they inhabit - where'd Falco fly off to? Why isn't he with the team right now? You can go find him if you want, or you can visit a contractor to add other characters such as Katt Munroe or Miyu Lynx
<The more characters you have on your payroll the more expensive your monthly bills get so you have to manage the risk/reward of doing harder missions
<If a character dies in a mission their death is permanent and affects the outcome of your playthrough, so be sure to equip their craft with escape pods so that they don't bite it if something goes wrong
>Every character has custom loadouts and special abilities/traits ala Star Fox 2 - you can also modify a ship's weapon loadout if you don't like it, like perhaps swapping out your chargeable homing laser for a super-rapid pulse laser or a concentrated energy beam that takes a moment to begin firing
>Buy new weapons and ships from dealers around the system if you can afford it, or maybe find some real estate on a planet so you don't have to live on the Great Fox all the time
