The beginning of 7th gen was the last time I was truly excited to see gaming progress as a whole. Even though everything went to shit in 2007, the DS came out in 2004, 360 in 2005, and PS3/Wii in 2006. There was still time to give an illusion of improvement before everything began to stagnate.

also back then because technology was still making big jumps games completely changing or reinventing genres (like 2D to 3D) felt genuinely new and exciting even in hindsight maybe they weren't actually better sequels.
With sequels generally getting worse and the lack of major technology jumps to mask this it's really starting to show how shit the sequels are becoming.

Fortunately we reached a point where they hit the limit and everything is burning. Governments are limiting current lootboxes and microtransactions. Casuals are actually turning back on companies like Blizzard and Bethesda because they realized they are fucking them like they fucked D2 fanbase with Diablo 3.
Future of the industry it either companies accepting that they will make their games for their fanbases or new devs making games for their respective fanbases. It is already happening. GGG is basically making money which should have been made by Blizzard. It is only matter of time we will see more companies like them.

You go to loot hotspots in the real world to get loot for your character that allows them to automatically kill tougher monsters. All the actual monster killing is automatic. Different classes get different set/unique drops based on different real world locations. Blizzard gets millions in endorsements from the travel industry.
