>How bad was it?
Lemme just outline the plot. The movie opens on pair of buildings being bombed as an allegory to 9/11. You then see Shuya as an Osama-like character issueing a declaration of war towards all adults. It then does that BR thing with the bus being led somewhere mysterious and the kids are dropped off and are greeted by Riki Takeuchi, this film's version of Kitano, who, for no reason, reads a list of countries the United States has bombed, then explains the new game where the sole purpose of which is to kill the terrorists. Also for some reason theres a new buddy system where boys and girls are paired up and if one dies, the other's collar goes off, effectively cutting their fighting force in half. Also it turns out one of the girls is Kitano's daughter who actually volunteered for the program to get revenge for the death of her father, who she treated like absolute shit. Anytime theres a flashback to Kitano is absolutely fucking miserable. Also theres some flashbacks to the kids playing Rugby at their alternate school for delinquents, which becomes important later.
Eventually after a few boring action scenes with absolutely none of the character dynamics of the previous movie, and just tones of mindless death and explosions, they reach the stronghold. Shuya, at this point, uses the EMP bomb they have inexplicably have stashed to disable all the collars and the force predictably joins the terrorists. At some point its revealed that Takeuchi's daughter was killed the the not-9/11 attack and thats why he has such a hateboner for Shuya's band of happy go lucky terrorist murderers. Eventually the terrorists manage to send out a signal to the world stating all the countries the United States has bombed, only for the US to suddenly bomb their stronghold. The Prime Minister of Japan and the coordinators of the game are suddenly panicing at the fact that the US now wants to bomb the island filled with people Japan all wants dead anyway for some inexplicable reason so they decide to launch an invasion force of actual adults onto the island to kill everyone so they are all dead before the united states has a chance to bomb them. When I say "invading force" I mean they fucking zerg rush the stronghold with like a million goddamned soldiers, most of which die horribly. Shuya then reveals the mineshaft leading to the main island they will escape out of. As they are making their way towards it, Takeuchi appears in a rugby outfit and tells the terrorists that they arent so bad and that he always wanted to play rugby with them. He then charges the soldiers to cover their escape and his bomb collar goes off as he makes a rugby dive. Also Kitano's daughter just kinda dies without any real resolution to her plotline but whatever. Shuya and the protag of BR2 who's name I forgot charge the soldiers so that the others can escape and it fades out, implying they died heroically. But no, it then cuts to a middle eastern side where they are COMPLETELY FINE, and Noriko, who's been absent the entire movie, who I took to mean died and was what turned Shuya into the person they are, is there and is also entirely safe.
