Thankfully back when I was a retard who still used Steam, I bought CS;GO for my friends and I which basically allowed me to get my money back and then some kinda through selling crates and skins. I didn't buy much from Steam (partially because of how hard it was to find anything good and being inundated with shovelware and garbage), thank god, but the few games I did buy, I enjoyed and played fully mostly.

I also didn't have too much money at the time either which was a blessing in disguise

I'm part of those who no longer play in Steam. Tell that to all the people who now cannot login because the sign-in tab isn't showing or even if it is, it's pure guesswork on which field you have to use if it even registers because the front page doesn't properly show the sign-in screen. Worse if you have to fill in recaptcha you're pretty much locked out of your account for a while since the recaptcha doesn't show up either and you still have to fill it in properly.

Once you login or stay signed in to your account the account tab will still work. If you try certain browsers though even if you manage to sign in the entire site is unusable, can't even see price listings or navigate through clicking the pages you have to type in the links to directly go to where you need to.

I know how you feel. I uninstalled Steam two years ago and haven't reinstalled it since. I've logged in once or twice through a web browser, though. I can't believe how much of my life I wasted by having it revolve around that software. Doubly depressing because I formed an emotional bond to Half-Life as a teenager and got heavily involved in modding as an outlet to cope with the bad experiences I was having at high school. I think if it was Valve pushing paid mods you would have seen paid mods pop up on multiple games rather than just Skyrim. Valve pays people who model maps and skins in their IPs. Their model in CS:GO right now is: 1) people vote up a map or skin they really like 2) valve comes over and offers the modder an amount of money. 3) It gets added to the game.

CS:GO just got an update with 2 new maps made by a modder. They've also added a bunch of music kits to both DOTA 2 and CS:GO.
