I just finished playing FEAR. Not really a haunting game, but has a lot of spooky shit that crosses similar territory (apparitions, things moving by themselves, skeletons, that kinda shit). Was pretty fun. Missed it when it originally came out, so this was my first playthrough. Solid shooting mechanics, easily abused bullet time, decent AI that likes to flank you and move in coordinated squads, nice textures and lighting that make many modern games look like ass by comparison.
My only problem is the lack of environments, and the fact that there is no final chapter to the game. No final boss fight. You just hit the self-destruct button and run away from some ghosts that pop out of the walls at you at certain per-determined trigger points as you make your escape. You're not even on a timer. Yeah, I guess that's what the expansion is for, but fuck that bullshit. Granted, it comes included with pretty much every modern version of FEAR - but at one time it basically amounted to chopping off the last 15% of your game, calling it DLC, and charging people extra for it. That's not cool. Also, my backlog is getting unmanageable and I don't have the inclination or time to be fucking around with expansions for games. If they can't get it right with the base game, then they don't get a second chance to get it right.
But up to that point, the game is fucking fantastic - so I'm still happy with it in the long run.
