Now that Spoopy Day is over with, we're only a few weeks away from Black Friday happening, and Christmas season going into full swing. Are you dudes ready? Because I'm sure as Hell not, but I'm more than ready to buckle down for some winter goodnesss so I can comfy the fuck out.
Let's have a thread about some nice winter/Christmas vidya. I'm loading up some of my yearly Christmas doom .wads and Jazz Jackrabbit's Christmas episode. What you dudes playing?
I hope this thread isn't too early for this. It was a super cold Halloween night and now it feels like winter is in full swing.

No worthwhile games are sold in these dates and consoles get a 200-300% markup a week before they get brought down to """low""" prices, for the past three months i was eyeing a white destiny ps4 on walmart because it has a super low firmware ideal for CFW, but i wasn't paying $300 for that old shit, and guess what? Two weeks ago it got bundled with 12 months of plus, horizon zero testosterone and god of cuck, and thus had its price bumped to $600, now it's back to a standalone ps4 with a $300 pricetag except now it also has a yellow sticker showing how it used to be twice as expensive, but they conveniently forget to tell you it also came with 2 extra physical games and ps plus.
Fuck you you fucking scammer jews, i hope you burn in hell's gas furnaces.

The only reason anybody on /v/ gives a shit about halloween is because you can easily tie in an entire game genre to it, there's no RTS day or shmup day. Otherwise anons would get shit for practicing a holiday where you buy a bunch of candy in bulk and give them to snot nosed brats. Thanksgiving is the only good holiday because turkey is awesome and you get to hang out with your family.

Where I live, the holidays are a good time to find various older games cheaply. A local chain has a habit of mispricing stuff in both directions, and while obviously stuff of interest is apt to go out quick for the duration of Christmas shopping, they also tend to get good stuff in as well due to people looking to afford their gifts to be using games they more ordinarily wouldn't part with. After Christmas, there's also usually a short period of take backs from people that didn't actually like what they got. And when a good game that isn't brought in much intersects with a low price fuck up, that's a good day. A few Decembers back I got five games that would have been on average $190-215 altogether at the time for $80 total. That was a decent way to cap off the year. There is a limit though: I've only ever encountered that happening on games back through fifth gen, and even then it's been getting rarer to see happen for fifth gen.
But that's obviously not so much for current games like big box retail places focus on, and very likely a regional thing to around here in that those fuck ups even happen. The whole mark up and mark down to make it look like a good deal that isn't is really shit. And I barely even bother with Walmart for vidya; they're too happy to leave stuff at full price even when it's been out for years, rotting and bleaching on the shelves.
>>15666111
Noticed that myself the last few years. Speaking to be parents about it, since they're more familiar with handing out candy, they attribute it to kids growing too old for it, and the younger adults not having kids of their own. I'd also personally attribute it to how, at least where I am now, no one really knows their neighbors anyhow, and in a low trust society, a door to door holiday like that is apt to make parents leery, especially if they don't actually want to go herd a pack of kids around for safety. I went to hang out with a friend tonight while he and his family passed out candy; there weren't all that many people doing it, and the night ended fairly early for most, being that it's still a school night. But there were still some.
Beyond that though, I notice some of the school and churches opting instead for what they call "Trunk or Treat", where teachers, and parents I suppose, decorate the rear of their cars for Halloween with the candy bucket in the trunk, and have the trick or treating in an easily watchable, close space. Not sure if that's at all the case where you live, but maybe it's phasing the traditional holiday out. Also notice that compared to when I was young, not that many people actually decorate for it anymore either.
Checking those double trips.

Because nobody in our age range can even afford to have kids. I'm 35 and I've only pulled in about 12k this entire year. Shit fucking sucks, man. But if I'm going to be real, I don't want kids, either. Still makes me sad to see that kind of stuff is dying out.
>school and churches opting instead for what they call "Trunk or Treat", where teachers, and parents I suppose, decorate the rear of their cars for Halloween with the candy bucket in the trunk, and have the trick or treating in an easily watchable, close space.

>>15666194
My neighborhood used to have lots of kids and such at one point, but now it seems like children are just becoming nonexistent altogether. Either people aren't having kids, or they are just ditching Halloween to stay inside and play Fortnite or whatever. Well, now I've gone and depressed myself.
At least the Holidays are a few weeks away, and eggnog has already been on sale for a month, so I'm ready to internalize in cold weather and get fucking comfy.

- The use of a cool palette. Whites, Blues, Greys.
- Snow particles.
- The sound of soft winds.
- Music has to reflect the feeling of the winter level. Which can be soft and serene, or can be fun and bouncy. The former for atmosphere, the latter for pure fun.
- If going for fun, the level needs slipping, sliding, and/or sledding.
- If going for atmosphere: Loneliness, desolation and the desire for warmth are key.
- You can also have this winter level be indoors. But the indoors needs to be as warm, inviting, and intimately comfortable as possible. It needs to be a stark contrast to the biting, lifeless winter chill outside to drive home just how absolutely comfy it is.
- Above all, it needs to evoke that feeling of nostalgia in a very specific way. Like the Christmas that you got your Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, N64 or Playstation. And the fun with it needs to evoke that feeling when you were trying these things for the very first time.
