You find yourself set against a terrible foe! The foe's party consists of a fearsome knight capable of dishing out massive damage. His allies are a cleric and a mystic who will be healing and buffing teammates, respectively.

Which do you target first?

I only picked FFT images because they get the point across, don't act like this question is based around FFT alone

7515d8  No.15664266

Always the healer of course, unless you can kill the damage dealers before he can actually heal them

d99032  No.15664270

Depends on the balance of the game. Does the healer consistently shit out ridiculous healing endlessly? Do the buffs do nothing appreciable, or make Knight an invincible god? Is the knight capable of high sustained damage output without either of his supports?

Too many variables please try again.

Usually you take out the highest DPS first unless the highest DPS is also the hardest to kill (e.g. the boss), in which case you take him out last.

44dd26  No.15664361

Depends on the game, really. Can I outdamage the healing easily? How about outhealing damage, and what resources I'd have to waste for it? Are the buffs additive or multiplicative, and what are the formulas for damage and all that? What options do I have for dealing with them? How broken are status ailments? Can I just turn them into toads and get on with my life? These are all important questions.

If i can one shot anyone i take out the rezzer. If i can't then i peck at the healer.

Cripple the shit out of them with CC and debuffs and see where it goes.

If you can't outright nuke them, stuff like this usually comes down to risk management.

Mystic has shit-tier accuracy and will never do anything of note, and under no circumstances can Clerics out-heal your focus fire. You're always going to want to kill the heavy damage dealers first.

Most magic works that way in FF:T. Cast a spell on an enemy, and you better make sure you finish casting it before they run into your group and fuck you with your own spell.

I can think of a few in the FF games, like Merton (which actually sucked compared to Ultima, but you could utilize it's fire elemental damage to instead heal you, if you had the right gear)

000000  No.15664597

Depends entirely on the structure of the game. Can I reasonably kill the mystic before he can buff anyone or the knight before he can be healed? What combat options do I have (attacks/buffs/debuffs/status etc.)? What is my build? All these questions determine the answer.

one hit kill the damage dealer and then kick his mage friends up and down the road

4198e1  No.15664969

Let me make a few assumptions first, since there isn't enough information in the first post. I will assume the healer would be able to cure any target at any time during the fight. I'm acting on the assumption that being labeled as a cleric does not define the character as a western armored cleric, but a character akin to the white mage in the picture. The mystic will cast buffs that will increase the attack and defense values of everyone involved, including himself. He will not be protected against combat, provided he does not have any buffs. Finally, I assume the knight is intended to deal high amounts of damage in order to draw my attention to himself. He doesn't have any actual abilities to force me to fight him, but he is a dangerous combatant to ignore. I imagine he is not a soft target, and will not go down easily.

If I have initiative, I will destroy the mystic. If he successfully buffs the defenses of other characters, my damage will be nothing but chips, including the healer. From there, the cleric must be defeated, but now that the mystic is out of the way, I'll also apply any crowd control effects I have to the knight, to protect myself from him long enough to finish the cleric. Once the cleric is defeated, I will then fight the knight.

You either kill or incapacitate high-threat targets, such as healers and high-damage dealers. In FFT, knights and such could also break your fucking equipment so getting rid of them ASAP is key too.

Might and Magic VI has Armageddon, which damages every hostile and friendly creature on the entire map including your own party. It literally kills every NPC living in town and every low-level monster on the map.

3ade52  No.15665667

The Cleric would make the other enemies take longer to kill with their healing, exposing myself/my allies to more harm in the long run especially if they revive, fuck Diablo II, so they go down first. The Mystic is second, as, especially without Cleric support, they'll go down quickly and it's best to keep them from DPSing my face. Last is the Knight, who has lost all of his support.

Several Ultima games have an Armageddon spell which kills literally everything aside from you and Lord British (the king of Britannia), who will chastise you for being that much of a dumb fuck for actually using the spell.

Depends on the game, but as a generalization, usually healer, then mage/ranged/lower defense damage, knight/tank for last, and hope the non-healers don't have revives themselves (or if so can still burn the healer back down quickly enough before they heal to full). Of course, it really depends on the game and how it's structured though. Say there's some mechanic wherein the knight really does have to go first to make actual progress. Like Reid in Tales of the Abyss' team arena cameo battle: His Aurora Wall was redesigned as if to incorporate his Aurora Wave, and rather than reversing incoming effects like in his own game, damages enemies near him and acts as a full revive to everyone KOed in his team, and even overrides the BGM "Everlasting Fight" with "Eternal Mind." Thankfully he can only use it it once in that battle if memory serves, but it's a nasty surprise for those burning his team down the traditional way, because once more you're squaring off against all four.
