The humor wasn't overly in your face and was pretty good. Even Medievil 2 dipped into more childish humor without all the really good and fun stuff Medievil 1 did. Stuff like learning all the banter and bickering the Hall of Heroes guys had in a library's bookshelves was hilarious and great.

I indirectly agree with that though, there's a weird lack of truly original games. Pretty much all modern games are very similar in feel to other games, you don't really remember them through their identity, only as the game who did it better than the others. When was the last time we had an original game with a very original identity like Abe's Oddysee, Crash Bandicoot, Medievil, Legend of Zelda, Sonic…?

Speaking of limitations of old consoles/games, why the fuck do they make the draw distance to fucking infinity in every game…. Especially in horror games you're not supposed to see everything. You should be able to see what's around with in 10-20 meters MAXIMUM (that's 32-65 feet for you amerfags) everything else should be not very visable. Weather it's obscured by fog or just dark.

Anyway, that's what soyboys and retards want in vidya when they don't want pozzed as fuck games: games that are remakes/reboots of better games with shallower graphics(although they look better, they aren't artistically as competent), characters, and dumbed-down gameplay instead of playing the original. Mostly because the target demographic of these games is in their mid 30s - 40s now and going through midlife crises and hence try to relive their youth through video games they played when they were younger, albeit shittier and WAY more streamlined to the point of almost playing itself.

I'm going to stand up for the game and say it looks decent. I don't think they'll be able to re-capture the horror-elements (Ps1 FMVs are terrifying on their own merits) but the trailer also didnt show any of the spookier scenes like the town coming under the mind-control spell, nor the stained glass demon, but they might be able to pull it off. Otherwise, I think the game looks fine. I dont know where people get the idea that it 'looks too cartoony' considering the original was cartoony as all fuck.
As long as they leave the gameplay and writing the fuck alone, and just market it as the old game with better graphic, and charge maybe 30-40 bucks for it, I'll be fine.
Fuck, maybe if it does well enough, we could see the revival of the series, albiet that would probably end poorly.

Fucking Ocarina of Time had better combat with the sense of weight and momentum and scale, and the way enemies reacted to hits and shit.

Christ, most the complaining here seems to be people who just like to talk. Having replayed the game over Halloween, the style isn't too cartoony, nor is the soundtrack too light. The first game was very cartoony and the atmosphere lacked any tension or horror at all. I'll wait til I see more, but from the trailer, it looks like they actually put a little effort in.
At the very least the camera controls look better. They were fucking atrocious in the original.

I agree completely. I just now have finished playing medievil (unlike these contrarian hipsters who just like to complain and dont actually play videogames) and I can guarantee that this remake is exactly the same (but better), it captures the aesthetics perfectly and brings them to up to the bar of the PlayStation 4's graphics capability. The sound design also seems far improved over the original's. Everything sounded weird and distorted in the original and it's not very nice at all. This new remake sounds crisp and clean.

There's a realistic market for a good chunk of remasters of PS1-era games right now: I know there's lots of people who have wanted a FF7 or Legend of Dragoon remake for years, for instance. With our current technology and with the AAA studios temporarily (or permanently) incapable of innovation, there's no reason for them to not go for remasters of old games.
There's a few companies out there still innovating, and they're generally considered masters of their craft. The AAA studios in the US are incapable of it anymore because they loaded up on soyboys, so there's not really any hope there. I'm told there's a few people who really want to innovate, but the money isn't there for them.
Innovation is going to come out of Indie devs, and there's a sort of big soyboy Indie dev crew that's stifling that pretty hardcore. I think that unless AAA devs wake up or the Indie dev soy crew gets taken down, we're not going to have lots of truly innovative games any time soon.

I absolutely hate how the hype over a potential Final Fantasy VII remake made Squeenix completely overthink and overproduce it. All it had to be at the very most was a conversion to full 3D with good camera controls and models. No need to change the battle system or put it into some bullshit "chapters". The style that we've seen in the game so far makes it feel more suited to a Crisis Core remake than OG Final Fantasy VII.
