Getting through the intro of this game was such a fucking chore that I stopped playing it for a day after I was done. When I went back to the game, I went into the wilderness, fell a couple of meters with my horse and then my horse died because it hit a tree. With how succesful GTAV/GTAO was on PC, RDR2 will be on PC. As a buisness they would be stupid not to.
They shut down modding for GTAV threatening legal action but eventually came to an agreement with the OPENIV (modding tool for the Rage engine) developers.
It had something to do with GTAO and porting Liberty City (GTAIV map) to GTAV which was cancelled as part of the agreement. So with that precedent set I'm sure they're not worried about mods.

The gameplay is a pure upgrade from RDR 1, more shit to do and the stuff that's carried over is more detailed, the gunplay is better, more minigames, more ways to make money, interacting with people is greatly improved, and more shit to do with the money you earn. Arthur may not be a "better" character than john, but at least he lets you play the way you want whereas with john being a jerk felt out of character considering his long spiels about turning his life around an shieeet.

The nature stuff looks fun. Hunting, fishing, foraging, looks interesting. Definitely one of the "slow" parts of the game but that doesn't bother me personally. The open wild is the only thing that grabs me about the game. That and getting to pimp your guns. If I had a day with it, I'd try to recreate some of the revolvers from Red Dead Revolver.
But the plot is definitely shit and there's enough poz to choke on. Not that it matters to me, I own none of the systems it's for.

Here's actual game play experience from the other thread.
So RDR1 was in a lot of ways GTA in the west which was OK. It wasn't a perfect game by all means but I enjoyed it for what it was. RDR2 isn't a western GTA instead they've gone even a step further in terms of pushing realism without thinking about how said realistic mechanics equate to enjoyment as a player. The first hour or two which is the first chapter are highly scripted walk and follow an NPC while they blab to some location, if you barely go off the path you fail and redo, get to some location, maybe do a minor shoot out that's scripted and complete mission. After you get past this snorefest of a chapter it opens to where you get a camp, you'd think you can have a little fun and do things between missions but that's to your own dismay.
The AI has super sight, hearing, xray vision to see any crime. I had situations where an NPC well off my radar saw a crime and reported it only to be swarmed by the law, or even cases of myself being robbed and retaliation equating to me breaking the law. You build up permanent bounty that does not go away on death and causes bounty hunters to track you even in the middle of fuck no where. I was attempting to make some money and gather stuff for the camp only to have hunters to appear in fuck no where while I was slowly carving a body only to be shot mid animation because the game wouldn't allow me to prompt back dialogue with them while carving. This lead to over 40 minutes of gathering being lost because everything I had obtained was stripped from me, my horse was also killed in the process which leads you to losing any training progress and starting to square one.
The game essentially wants you to fall in line and do nothing of any risk or amusement otherwise you end up being utterly fucked by it. Even with stealth knife kills I could have some NPC magically see it from miles away and report it, when I attempted more missions it falls into more of the "follow NPC, listen to them, do thing, repeat." It does all the bullshit most modern western games do now a days, yet people will suck it off like it's an amazing experience that can't be missed. The only saving grace is that I ended up being able to get back what I paid for it.

RDR1 didn't have a warm up chapter that was scripted, it just did the Bully thing in that you got more and more tools the farther you went into the story, which motivates you into going to the next mission. You start with a revolver, pick up a lasso, pick up a shotgun, pick up some Dead Eye techniques, pick up some knives, a bandana, new guns and so on.
The only thing you actually had to do cinematically was get off the train, head over to Bill Williamson's base yourself with a horse. You weren't penalized and railroaded, you could explore the areas around Armadillo without issue.
from what I saw RDR2 suffers from triple AAA syndrome, the intro HAS to be big, long and uncut because they sunk so much money in it. Star Ocean 5 did that shit for an entire game and it suffered horribly.
On top of that the game's crime system from what I've heard doesn't allow for fucking around, with near permanant bounties that don't go away until a couple of in game weeks have passed, which means you'll inevitably reset the counter when the bounty hunters come after you.
You're playing as an outlaw in story with no real incentive to actually play as an outlaw in the game.
Out of all this, out of all the political shit, putting all that shit aside for this moment, they have still failed to make a good game by fucking their own main premise. This is fucking embarrassing. It's baffling, they had time to program a system for horse balls and yet they didn't fucking balance the game first thing or test any of it.

so i'm lying, but you haven't played the game because you can't pirate it. The fact that there's a first person mode means the gunplay is an instant improvement over RDR 1. The guns sound better and do more damage, but you conversely take more in turn. You can't tank shots like in RDR 1 which is irritating at first but you get used to it. hunting is tougher, animals drop varying degrees of pelts depending on how cleanly you take them down, and rather than being able to stuff them in your magic sack, you have to stow them on your horse. The end result is hunting is actually entertaining rather than just being a sidenote. There are more varieties of plants and they have more uses because of a crafting system instead of just getting a pile of worthless crap. The minigames are essentially the same, but five finger fillet isn't a bunch of horse shit anymore.

no, the game is expecting you to be smart about how you do shit. It's very easy to get away with crimes, just wear your mask, do it quickly, and hide the bodies. If you just run up and shoot someone in the face, people will come to investigate. The only reason you were getting fucked over is because you wanted to treat it like ye olde GTA. I think the way crimes are handled is far more competent than in RDR 1, instead of being a one off joke of a system it has some level of depth to it.

I have actually played the game. I got it as a gift from my brother who really liked the first one. It's been a long time since I played the first one, but I don't remember hating the camera and movement this much back then. There's a fucking delay on every input, and it feels awful.

That's only half true. They're spawned in with a maximum grade of pelt they can drop. Hit R1 while focusing and you'll see a grade on the animal; that is the best pelt you can get if you kill it with a single head shot from an appropriate weapon. Shoot someone in the wilderness and kill any witnesses and you can loot 2.50$ from every corpse and jewelery that can be worth as much as 15$ a piece. Additionally, humans are much more common than bears, and your magic bag can hold 5 of each type of jewelery as opposed to the 1 bear pelt your horse can carry before having to go to town. Hunting is a recreational activity at best. Sadly, so are most of the other mini games. Poker and black jack have around a 2$ buy in, and each one takes a good while to play out. I haven't touched dominoes, but five finger fillet might be a decent way to make money if you're really good. It seems to double the stakes each round, but they were getting stupidly hard around round 4 so I stopped there. The side activities might be fun, but they're very inefficient when it comes to actually earning money. It's far more efficient to just repeatedly rob people, but their crime system is buggy as fuck with broken bandannas not stopping identification, cross map witnesses, and retarded high police spawns regardless of location. They have some cool ideas and features, but they didn't make the game with gameplay in mind so those features don't get to shine.

It may have started at GTA4. Although perhaps San Andreas may have been like that also. I haven't played either in a long time but every game since 4 has had more and more gay shit like this in it. John Marston for example was a good character overall but there also was some weird shit where some "dumb racist" is going on a rant and Marston just smugly looks at the guy. This was actually funny. Marston handles it with subtle sarcasm, letting the obvious caricature swell in his own words for further comedic effect, and the caricature is just a hodgepodge of every conspiracy theorist thrown in a pot. It's a little odd he'd say "Jewish" instead of "Jew" but whatever what would we expect from this company?
Either way, it was humorous and when he gets eaten by zombies it's pretty hackney but otherwise funny enough, really showcasing Marston as a fun sarcastic ass when he feels like it.

It'd be one thing if the storeowner were being subtle about it and making off-color comments during the conversation while Marston just talks regularly and at the end Marston makes a sarcastic reply to him abut one of the things he just said, but this is so fucking forced you can see the punchline. It fails at being funny because you can see what the fucking punchline is a mile away. There's a way to be humorous and this isn't it. Wow, really? That's terrible. The thing is, I could easily imagine it being amazing if they'd focused on this kind of stuff first instead of fluff. Cops should only spawn in towns, and how it should work is that if you are wanted you can run away into the wilderness to hide, but then you can't go into town and do missions so easily, because someone might spot you and tell the sherrif. If you're out in the wilderness they'll send a posse after you, but they have to actually look for you, and you can try and throw them off your trail and stuff. That's what an actual "epic" cowboy game would be like. I don't think it would be that hard for them to implement this kind of stuff properly.

Why do witnesses spawn at all? Isn't the point of a witness to be someone there who witnesses what's happening? Shouldn't the point of the system be that you choose whether to kill based on whether there's anyone already around or not? It should just use whether there are NPCs present to begin with. No one new should be spawning until you are miles away, and even then if they see a crime they should behave in a way that corresponds to them not knowing it's you, and only calling the cops to investigate the crime. It shouldn't give you a wanted leve easily.

<Challenges can give perk like abilities, but their rewards are unclear until completion.
<Challenges are done in such a way that you can't progress them until reaching certain points in the story (ex: I'm stuck on "kill 5 cougars with your bow and arrow" in the master hunter tree because cougars seem to be located in an area of the game that you're restricted from going to until further story progress is made, and each challenge requires that you did the previous one)
<rpg like elements in the health, stamina, and dead eye amount means that a player who gets hit more often and chugs health potions could have twice as much health as a player that uses cover and avoids taking damage in the first place. The guy who relies more on manual aim than dead eye spam won't have as much dead eye meter when he needs it.
<Dead eye system in general is honestly kind of fucked. Early game you'll have about 16 dead eye potions in your inventory that can be used in combat, have no cool down, restore dead eye to max, and give a temporary boost to the maximum. So you can throw that shit out a ton if you want. However, without the potions you will not have dead eye up very much. You only regenerate dead eye on kills or when you take damage, and I think that it takes about 20-40 kills to get an appreciable amount (which takes quite a while).

I can't really think of anything else at the moment, but those are my impressions so far. I think I'd currently rate the game as a 6 or 7. It can be fun depending on what you're hoping to get out of it, but Rockstar really dropped the ball in a few key areas. I think the biggest faults are the sjw shoehorns and the clunky controls. The sjw shit should be easy enough to see without touching the game, but I think it's really hard to see just how bad the controls are. Precision aiming and movement are basically impossible with the current setup, and to compensate for that they made combat play out really slowly and from behind cover and gave the player considerable auto lock on enemies (it's so strong I honestly use it to find rabbits hiding in tall grass, and I only ever need to try once or twice if I know the general location).

To add onto the controls bit, they made some really questionable actions share inputs. Staring at someone to initiate dialogue is L2 and so is aiming your gun. You may well find yourself pointing a gun at the sheriff you wanted to surrender to. Robbing someone or threatening a witness to stop and mount/dismount horse are both bound to triangle. So chasing a witness or robbing someone off horse back requires you to aim directly at the target and hit triangle. If you're aim is not on them at the moment you hit triangle (presumably because you took your thumb off the right stick to press triangle) you instead jump off your horse. If it was a time sensitive thing like a witness running to the police, then that can be really fucking annoying to deal with.

NPC's will frequently break the law by assaulting the player and running into you and if you retaliate the police will be on you like flies on shit. It also couples this with the shitty GTA 5 teleporting police that will magically teleport in front of where you're running. They literally put horse testicles and grooming into the game but decided to leave in the most un-immersive bull shit in.

I really hate the controls. They are just unresponsive, especially in firefights and brawls it feels like doing it underwater. Even the cover-system they fuck it up, because you're never certain if a certain cover will be an adequate cover because at times his head pops up because the character model is too tall but still he doesn't get shot. Other times he can stand behind a perfectly fine wall and get hit.
Also the controls are a pain the ass, lassoing people on horseback is hard and you have to aim while directing a horse, maintaining the speed (which seems like a mess aswell) and other things like the focus on npc's button is the same as draw weapon, so i basically drew a gun on my mate at camp when i wanted to greet him as he asked who it was and got killed because of it because i had my gun equipped from hunting.
Also, did two of the first missions when the world opens up a little. Driving a wagon into town and fixing that quests and then the brawl in the bar. Got stranded in Valentine because they rode back of course and my horse was at camp. Didn't want to walk for 15 minutes back to camp like a retard so i had to steal a horse and every chicken is a snitch apparently because no one was around, in the middle of the night and i got a hefty bounty on my head all of a sudden. Nice planning there on your quests Rockstar.
Also, the game can at times look downright butt ugly. Reminds me of a PS3 game at times.
