So I found a good video that pretty much sums up my thoughts on the game.

If you don't want to waste your time, he talks about how enemies, the level design, the movement and the combat were all designed around the fixed camera limitation and how they worked extremely well with it and really won't work with REboot2, REboot2 will either have to be extremely well designed or it will be a mediocre experience.

Of course he didn't talk about the garbage redesigns as well.

I was hoping the nipjews at Capcuck to at least keep the TPS/FPS games or even action games contained to the sequels, but alas we can't have anything good in this industry.

Goddamn the reveal of this game disappointed me so much.

So much dick sucking to fixed camera angles. REmake and RE2 are the apex of that design, there's only so much you can do with it. By the time RE4 came around there were about 8 RE games and a couple Silent Hill games using fixed camera angles. Oh yeah, most people only played 1-3 & maybe CV. It wasn't just the perspective, it was also the atmosphere, the audio design, the aesthetics, etc. RE4 lacked many things but the position of the camera wasn't the problem, Capcom failed to foresee all of the ways in which you could use that perspective for horror effectively but who can blame them, they pretty much pioneered a new genre and were under the pressure of releasing a game that was on its fifth design iteration. And his bit about the music is just overreaching for retarded complaints.

If you've already decided that a game is shit even before it's out, even before you've actually played it, why even bother with it? It's ok anon, pretending you know what you're talking about because you watched a misinformed Youtube video doesn't make you a retard, just a tool.

You'll notice that a lot of the points he's making also apply to Silent Hill, which didn't have fully fixed cameras but still managed to be tense and more strategic survival experiences. However, they deliberately chose other methods of limiting the player's view and keeping control of the pacing and environmental cues - namely thick fog that covered wide open areas. It wasn't just to get around the limits of a low draw distance, as the fog returned in the PS2 titles which had the graphical power to more fully render a complete world around the player.

the thing is EVERYONE immediately pointed this out when REmake2 was first shown, I don't think it would be particularly difficult to adapt the third person camera into this by hiding enemies in more clever ways and putting movement restrictions on the players but who knows with capcom

>People wanting Capcom to just make RE2 again with new graphics

What's the point of remaking an older game without changing it? A lot of what the video talks about sounds like the developers are actually trying to capture what he wants, just in a different way. Like making the lickers more threatening by making them jump around more. Or making individual zombies more of a threat by making them take more of a beating.

There's ways to capture the artistic fidelity he wants in a different way that allows you to experience the same game in a new way. The appeal of a remake should be "use the same elements but tell them in a different way" rather than "just make my favorite game in Unreal 4 kthx". It allows for a newer audience to appreciate the game and at the same time allowing for the older audience to experience something they already like in a different way.

Precisely, and that's what I don't think they'll do right with this game.

Limiting flashlight use for example is a great way of hiding things in the dark and subverting your expectations but you'll likely have one and with infinite use.

But honestly even if the game turns out alright I still think it should have had fixed cameras much like the first REmake, I'm honestly expecting some Revelations tier mediocrity from this.

>>15655268

>but who knows with capcom

That's my biggest issue I don't trust them at all.

If it was a fixed camera angle game they would at least mimmick or follow guidelines set by the original game and even with a similar game with modern visuals I would have been satisfied.

With third person however they'll eithet have to innovate or the game will be RE4 without the siliness or atmosphere.

But the thing is nobody wants RE2 with just a shiny coat of paint. A lot of people including myself wanted RE2make to be a lot like REmake in terms of keeping it loyal to the older game but adding new things to make it stand completely on its own footing. It's really hard to accept that instead of going with what made the REmake so good, they opted to just change the game to how they wanted with no regards to loyal fan discussion or even the consideration that the design change could potentially turn out to be a steaming pile of shit.

Just trying to believe 3rd person can work is difficult considering all the games to release in that perspective blew ass save for 1 or 2 titles depending on who you ask. I guess I'm just disappointed we won't get the RE2make a lot of us wanted.

Subverting expectations is fine, so long as the subversion leads to a constructive and desired outcome. Sometimes you need to knock down old structures in order to develop new territory. But if you just knock down an old building and leave an empty lot (subversion for the sake of subversion) or knock down a historical landmark for commercial development (agenda pushing, history erasing) - then you're fucking up and should just kill yourself.

Knight of the Old Republic II was fine, because it used subversion to lay the foundation for story that added context and content which complimented the existing Star Wars universe. The Last Jedi was garbage, because it used subversion for the sake of subversion for cheap thrills from morons at best - and as a conscious effort to drive away the existing fanbase (who had expectations of quality and "toxic" passion that didn't gel well with the expanded commercialization) at worst.

i wanted Remake 2 because that seemed like something even capcom couldn't fuck up.

instead they decided to make RE4:racoon city edition. re2 shouldn't be an action game imo. zombies are relatively trivial to fight and don't have the mob variety that made ganado encounters interesting.

It seems they fixed the issue of zombies going down easily that precise aiming gives by making the zombies almost walking biological tanks that can take a buckshot to the face. Hopefully they also reduce player health so that you can only take a few hits/bites before death or add a bleed mechanic so you are forced to ration bandages and healing items.

Listen, anon. Capcom wasn't going to deliver on your expectations. They never were. I'm not saying you should lower them, but you need to realize that with how many different styles of RE there are, they weren't going to go back to fixed camera and you should have known that. "Loyal fan discussion" doesn't make games. You live, for some reason, in this idyllic world where companies will listen to you and only you or these "loyal fans" who share the same ideas you have. You need to break those off and realize that they only listen to what they know will sell. Besides, the RE fanbase is completely and utterly fractured. No matter what happened, some group was gonna feel disappointed. Might as well be the group that can't move on and realize Capcom doesn't want to make fixed camera RE anymore.

Silent Hill released later in the console's lifespan. The Dreamcast was out the same year it released and the PS2 was coming just months away. By that point developers had figured out more of the console's limitations and how to render larger worlds.

Even then Silent Hill's solution to the issue was to just put tons of distance fog everywhere. Spyro was more clever since they used absurdly low LOD to render really large worlds.

>While saying that, he's using footage from a game on the SNES, which did had several games using polygons that was produced on it.

The SNES incorporated polygons similarly to sprites. Like Donkey Kong Country used 3D polygons that were then rendered as sprites. If you're referring to Starfox it was like 10s of polygons which was already straining what the system was capable of. Doom was 2.5D and that barely ran on the system.

A bigger limitation the PS1 had was control limitations. Since while the Dualshock was a thing there were extremely few games that actually took advantage of dual stick control. (So much so that when Alien Resurrection on PS1 used dualshock with left stick to move and right stick to aim there was an infamous review where a journalist saw the scheme as unplayable). It wasn't til the PS2 that it started to become a thing but even then it wasn't the standard for a few years. Like Grand Theft Auto didn't start doing it until 2004.
