Have you ever gotten incredibly tired of gameplay mechanics in a game, despite them being good and just wanted to progress the game further? This is the main reason for why I often quit games and then never come back to them. How do you deal with this problem? I'm playing SMT: Strangest Journey currently and I am currently at Delphinus, and although I really want to finish this game, the very thought of collecting new demons for fusion to find a better team comp as well as exploring a new dungeon is driving me nuts, although I've been enjoying myself a lot before until those fucking dark rooms that is, fuck those things. What do you do to get into the spirit of things? I know that if I take too long of a break then I will probably never finish that game.

e412f9  No.15650581

Try playing a few games at the same time and swap between them when one gets tiring, or cut back on how long you play your current game.

>Cut back on how long you play your current game.

This might be a good idea as I often play games for fucking days when it comes to that until I get so tired of playing vidya that I just want to watch anime/horror movies for the rest of the fuckign week. Though that means that it will take me more time to beat a game and I'm already terribly slow at beating vidya How the fuck do people beat vidya in a couple of days when I can't get halfway through in a week?

>Try playing a few games at the same time and swap between them when one gets tiring

That is also a good idea, the problem appears when I have the problem of having too many games to play, with none of them that I actually feel like playing. It's like being a fucking woman I swear

I like mechanics in games. For example, you can treat them like a puzzle, or figure out which are the most valuable mechanics to acquire to give you the best numerical advantage. In other games, it's fun trying offshoot builds and seeing what you can actually assemble to make work.

I don't know how SJ works but

>Get to new area, monsters have a lot of fire attacks

>But now I have access to [old area] and [new mechanic]

>I see if I can combine them, I can get better Fire Resistance

>Otherwise I can just increase my healing ability to get through this section

a692f9  No.15650624

>>15650619

I like them too, but after a while I just feel like I want to progress the game at any cost and just get the next piece of the story or just feel the accomplishment of finishing the game. I get so tired of playing it, I cannot continue, even though I really liked it before.

You might as well be a videogame journalist anon holy shit.

If you wont want to play videogames just watch it on jewtube, nobody's stopping you from doing that.

SJ is a wonderful game I somehow got addicted to and I had a great amount of fun every minute of it unless when I was at those points where I got stuck, if you don't like the gameplay after a while stop playing it for a bit, its especially true if you've been binging the game.

e412f9  No.15650652

It may just be that the games you play are very long, JRPGs are notorious for this. Maybe try playing older games like Contra that can be beaten in a half hour once you know what you're doing and are lots of fun to replay if you want to. Anything past 10 hours starts to drag for me unless it's an RPG in which case 20 seems to be the sweet spot (the extra 10 comprised mostly of travel and grinding).

a692f9  No.15650742

>>15650648

Nigger I don't hate the gameplay of SJ, I fucking love it, but no matter how much I love the game, no matter what game I'm playing, after a while I become burned out on it completely and stop playing it for a long period of time. I know that I can take breaks but it takes an awfully long time for me to want to play the game again, which often makes me drop them completely. I hate this as none of my friends, and many of the anons I see don't seem to have this problem.

>>15650652

Most of the games I play are older games.

No but when I'm at that stage, I just blow my way through the rest of the game as fast as I can.

Delphinus was where I quit OP

I don't know if it gets any better, (it probably does) but the literal trash dimension is definitely the low point of SJ

7c1cfe  No.15650926

If you're losing interest in a game, push yourself further for a few hours to see if you can shake yourself out of the slump. If you're still really, really not enjoying yourself, just play something else; it's a hobby, there's no point torturing yourself.

Play something casual and mindless to wind down until you're desperate for something more challenging and mentally engaging. Finish something challenging and then play something easier to wind down. Rinse and repeat. It's a natural cycle you should fall into if you're used to playing all different kinds of games.

>>15650896

The casual filters are in Sector Eridanus, that's where most people quit.

>I don't know if it gets any better, (it probably does) but the literal trash dimension is definitely the low point of SJ

I thought the first three sectors were pretty bland until you got to Conveyor Belt Mania. Sectors E-G were much better, though.

Read this as

>getting tired of gameplay merchants

and came in here ready to rant about those fuckers who overprice everything to the point where it's not even worth buying or selling anything, and you just find what you need in the wild completely removing the comfy shopping feel after a hard adventure.

As for mechanics, I find it depends on the level of skill it takes to pull off. Something as simple as a nicely timed shoryuken can feel great and make me want to keep playing, but if I'm playing an action game and I start to notice I'm just mashing my way through because it's the most effective method of progressing, I get bored and the entire game starts to feel bland. Even if there are flashier options, I feel like I'm wasting my time when spamming square gets me through fights quicker and easier, and with no downside like a rank system or something.

totally gave up on rpgs with RANDOM BATTLES. I can't stand backtracking in dungeons (mazes) and getting random battles every few steps, fuck off trash mobs. Disgusting mechanic for the CURRENT YEAR.

Turn based battles are fine if they are done right, but gtfo with this random battle bullshit.

They don't enjoy the game, they just buzz right through the main quests and then complains there's a lack of content. Case in point, Deus Ex Mankind Divided. Because without doing side quests and exploration, you don't get to see the whole picture to the main story. Which is why morons only thinks it's about stopping a big bad guy terrorist when it's more to it than that.

f36ed2  No.15657557

I'm tired of how SP works in rance VI.

Why do you eventually force me out of the dungeon only for me to run back to the exact same point anyway? WHY

I understand Drpgs need to have that resource drain sort of feel the deeper you go but this is a terrible way to do it.

I have the same issue anon, played literally any game with a long story and get bored after many hours once you realise the only thing you care about is the story because of how long it is. But then when you do finish it, god damn do you get an odd feel. It's like sadness and happiness mixed together.

If want to be cheap OP try using these

http://apps.evilrobotstuff.com/strange_journey/fission/

https://aqiu384.github.io/megaten-fusion-tool/smtsj/demons

They should smooth out the team building process atleast in terms of knowing your ingredients. Gamefaqs is generally pretty good for the original SJ maps as well, for Womb of Grief stuff you're probably gonna have to import a jap walk through with the maps for those if you're playing Redux. Hope that helps

Fornax is easy on purpose so you can relax a bit after doing 2 hard levels in a row (delphinus, eridanus) Grus has the law and chaos build up in the story which i like but the gameplay there sucks. If you thought Eridanus was hard the final dungeon makes it look like a walk in the park. Anyway if you cant even fet past delphinus then your just plain weak cause its nothing compared to what comes later

>If you thought Eridanus was hard the final dungeon makes it look like a walk in the park.

I was specifically talking about the garden warp puzzle and Ouroboros' 2nd form, not the entirety of the dungeon. I've beaten the game, the final dungeon isn't that hard.

Nope, the problem is basic and the solution just one.

The problem is that enemy groups are extremely repetitive and are designed to be killed quick, for hundreds of times. The solution is to stop suggesting portable SMT games to newcomers and direct them to the PS2 titles.
