It was peak comfy, but it got progressively worse with the way it forced you to Pay2NotWait. Constant desyncs and the way you had to play a few microseconds ahead of the game instead of reacting to it were what made me quit it. After that they remodeled the whole economy system (lifts taking you down into the actual game world became free, but you couldn't just revive allies with your own health as well as the added pets) that's when I heard a lot of people leaving the game entirely.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I wish, I wish, I wish there was a single player dungeon crawler version of Spiral Knights for me to sink hundreds of hours into to chill out.

Spiral Knights just had so much potential that a greedy team took advantage of.
Theres also the fact that in order to even get better gear you need to pay up, so even if you had enough to go down the clockworks, you'd never have enough power/defence to even do anything since you'd have underleveled equipment. Want to be varied? Pay up. Want to use more than two weapons? Buy TWO slot extensions that'll only last a either 7 or 30 days. Want to use those accessories you keep getting for resistances/heath boost? Buy 1-4 charm slots that'll only last 7-30 days.
The gold to energy rate doesn't even justify the pure P2W the game became, and they already drove off a ton of people with the elevator fees. "Sparks of life" hardly drop and are incredibly expensive so if you die you're pretty much screwed since no one, not even your friends, would be willing to waste it on reviving you.
If there were a private server I'd play the fuck out of that
