Pic related. Apparently to some the worst game world ever created, but if you ask why you get one reason. Only one. The same one on repeat forever "but muh lava volcano though".

Its a fair complaint. The lift should have just gone down instead of up unless its meant to be some alice in wonderland tier impossible space.

But thats it. Thats the only complaint people ever list, yet apparently Drangleic is still the worst world map ever designed. Which if that were the case then Lost Izaliths sea of "eh placeholders are fine, lets call it gold and go to print" undead dragon butts would ruin the entirety of the first game as well.

Granted people were very salt about the graphical downgrade from prerelease trailers and thats entirely fair. But Dark Souls 2 has a pretty interesting world that unlike the other games "the party ended centuries ago and you are walking through the embers that serve as visual filler between bosses" videogamey design the world of DS2 feels far more recent, almost like berserks in terms of 'this shit went bad in the last 20 years and maybe we can turn this around if somebody finds the evil fuck behind it' which of course as the player you do.

Personally i think if they removed the whole kiln/flame and just made the throne of want its own thing with it being a totally unconnected sequel ala final fantasy numbered releases with dark souls just being "games about dark fantasy worlds in peril" like a much more mature zelda it would have been taken more favourably.

What game worlds do you enjoy that most seem to consider trash? doesnt matter if the game itself is trash or not really.

People do tend to shit on DSII a little bit more than what it deserves and it does have some pretty good vistas, but holy fuck the world is a disconnected mess.

Dark souls 2 had the worst combat and balancing and was ass to play and the bosses were shit. Like the only reason I ever beat it was because the entire time I cooped it with my brother and he tanked enemies while I spammed Dark Magic so neitger of us really had to deal with the retarded tracking the hitboxes have.

Felt really skill-less and kind of like a more traditional RPG with more of an emphasis on stats rather than skill

That being said I think it actually had some of the best levels aesthetically, like the dragon cave was really cool and every level seemed interesting. All the expansion levels were fucking rad. I liked all the poison areas.

Dark Souls 2's world is disconnected because the original director left the project and didn't explain to the guy taking over how it was all supposed to fit together. It quite literally is a patchwork game. Regardless, still more memorable than Dark Souls 3.

Not sure if the sentiment is the same nowadays but I remember when GTA SA got shat on for having a lot of wasted space. Sure, some of it was never utilized in missions but it was rather charming and atmospheric (although part of it might be just me loving crude low poly stuff). I find it much better than the map of Vice City which had some odd designs like a big empty airport, sprawling empty backalleys and a hugeass mostly empty beach that takes nearly half of an entire island.

Only 2 of those areas are actually accessible to begin with. You can open up a third if you buy the Silvercat Ring for 13400 souls, which pretty much requires that you go to Forest of Fallen Giants at minimum. The fourth route doesn't open up until you find a fragrant branch.

I'm pretty sure OP means that DS1 MAP is pretty cohesive and you can see one are from other areas in-game, like how you can see the demon ruins from the tomb of the giants or how you can see the Darkroot Forest from the chapel in the undead burg.

As for the world not making sense, it actually does. The undead burg is your standard human citadel, same with things like New Londo and the such. The only instances you are right is with stuff like Anor Londo, which is actually meant to gods, and yet you have pretty standard sized stairs, for example and Ash Lake which is supposed to be an actual mystical place..

The world is simply in ruins. Let's say that you're actually right and it doesn't make sense for humans because it's meant to be for giants. How the fuck would it make sense for giants?
