Since this game is coming out next year in the summer, I was thinking of ways the game could not suck massive dick.

>Make the game not a massive joke difficulty wise

>Have proper scaling with units/squads

>Storyline doesn't have to be god tier just not Fates bad

>Lower the dating sim elements

>If above is ignored at least make the main romance tolerable

>Remove phoenix mode

>Keep Treehouse the fuck away from translating this

>Give us quality over quantity as units from the past two games were many but proved to be useless

>No DLC bullshit

You forgot the map designs, OP, we can't forget those like IS did in Awakening. I don't want stale layouts where it almost never matters where I move or what I do. Give me maps like RD's where I have a lot of terrain to consider, the reinforcements are cleverly placed, the objectives are varied and I've gotta carefully consider and execute my approach.

Its funny, for all the shit that Fates gets, one third of the "game" has genuinely awesome maps. Chapter 10 of Conquest is fucking great.

The problem with Fates is that, while it was horrifically retarded step to shit in most ways, there were enough things there that showed that FE as a series is still redeemable. Unique skills on units was actually a pretty good idea, just mostly implemented wrong. The story in concept is really cool, but they fucked up the execution so hard that its easily the worst in the series, and half the games' stories aren't even that great.

IS can do fantastic character arcs for guys like Eliwood, Hector, Ike, etc.

I love FE9 standalone, and FE10 had so many great 'big' moments that for all its faults I think it deserves more credit. I don't see them ever making an endgame as hype as that again.

They can do story, they have good ideas, they just refuse to be consistent about them

The big problem is that Awakening/Fates, thanks to selling better than anything before them (or even since, besides the gachashit by nature) have effectively set a new standard for the series. Following the formula gets them more shekels from the nu-FE/Casual/Tumblr audiences, who are a bigger demographic than old fans or people like you or me.

The main flaws with Awakening and Fates don't have to do with their formula;

at least not directly, shit stories and shit maps have nothing to do with children, skills or marriage stuff.

Pretty sure the marriage system type deal sorta always existed with the support system(pretty sure A ranks could marry off people to roy).

Neither of this nor the children need to be featured in the actual story, which fates did do ironically.

Maps and story have nothing to do with what sells for those types, however the older audience still is extra money so i can't see them ignoring it forever.
