It's time. Kono's done another interview regarding AC7, it's nothing new but someone's gotta make the thread. https://archive.fo/LbGWr

Talk about how Yellow Squadron and Belka did nothing wrong and how Osean scum will get their comeuppance. Otherwise, discuss who is best girl and why it is Razgriz.

<G: Did you learn anything from Ace Combat: Assault Horizon that you applied to the development of Ace Combat 7?

>KK: When we create a numbered Ace Combat game, we shouldn’t change certain things. With something like Assault Horizon, which introduces new gameplay, I don’t think we need to use the name Ace Combat.

<G: So you wouldn’t call something like that Ace Combat anymore?

>KK: If we do something like that, we would probably think of a new name, but I don’t know for sure, we have no plans for now.

<G: Did you implement any learnings from Ace Combat Infinity?

>KK: The purpose of Infinity was to be free and easy to play. That purpose was achieved, but of course, there are fundamental differences in value for the audience between free-to-play games and packaged games, so we didn’t take specific inspiration from Infinity.

Game developers learning from mistakes? Is such a thing even possible in this day and age?

I hope he doesn't blame playable helicopters as a concept for the reason why AH was such dogshit. I know a lot of people said playable helicopters don't belong in ace combat, But I feel like if they had a control scheme that wasn't somehow even worse than frontlines fuel of war people wouldn't have cared so much.

I also feel like the opening credits door gunner sequence was kinda cool but for the love of god the second one and the fucking specture gunship level was totally uncalled for

Honestly I wonder if Iran has any plans to reverse engineer and manufacture an upgraded F-14 clone sometime in the future. They did that with the F-5 and I'm honestly pretty okay with the result (pic related is a HESA Saeqeh). I like how they ripped off the Blue Angel's livery too.

Bamco just released a new video showing off aircraft customization in singleplayer. The possibility for custom emblems in multiplayer just skyrocketed imo.

For the lazy, here's what's shown:

>Death screen is shown and the crashing animation looks pretty sweet

>You can apparently play completely unpainted, as shown with the F-35C

>Aircraft and upgrades are unlocked in a tree system

>Every aircraft has 3 different special weapons, as is tradition.

>Parts are returning from Infinity and are NUMEROUS

>When you fly extremely close to the water you get a cool ocean spray effect

>Every aircraft seems to have 6 different skins, all of which are unlocked in the campaign (with the likely exception of the pre-order bonuses)

>A wide variety of real and fictional emblems/roundels are unlockable as well

>Su-30M2 confirmed playable, bringing the list of playable Su-27 variants up to 5, possibly 6

I get that the Su-27 is a nice plane, but do we really need a 5th of the entire aircraft roster to be dedicated to it? Why not use some of those slots for other Russian planes like the MiG-1.44? Or hell, dedicate those slots to another country who's aerospace industry is actually relevant, like Sweden or Japan or even China (as remote a possibility that is).

>Speeches about peace and friendship are lame and gay.

I won't act like all the writing in AC5 is stellar, but fuck off with that shit man. Peace and friendship are the bee's titties.

>Osea giving up the Yuktobanian campaign after already taking most strategic targets is lame and gay.

Because they realized that both sides were being played and the whole war was based on false pretenses. Why would they have any reason to keep attacking? Just to blindly conquer a nation that could instead make a valuable ally?

>The story ending with all powers in the same position as they started is lame and gay (it means you accomplished basically zero).

Except that's simply not true. While neither Osea or Yuktobania's B O R D E R S changed, their diplomatic relationship was reinforced and presumably it brought a complete end to their cold war, the Grey Men were crushed and any hope of Belkan domination along with them, Wardog squadron went from a bunch of rookies to being a legendary squadron and the president's personal air guard, and Chopper Dies.

>>15673559

This. If Osea kept attacking then the conflict would have certainly escalated to the point of using nuclear weapons. In fact, if the burst missiles in AC5 work the same way as equivalent irl weapons like the AIR-2 do, then the Circum-Pacific War had already gone nuclear.

GAY. Conquest, challenge, and strength all the way.

>Because they realized that both sides were being played

Osea had already captured the Yukes' prime minister. Consider this; let's say Osea doesn't want nuclear war. That's fine and reasonable. Did they get anything out of negotiations? No, because the writers were retarded and think of world conflicts from the perspective of a child, hence all the "peace and friendship" BS.

>their diplomatic relationship was reinforced

>presumably it brought a complete end to their cold war

That did not happen in the game, and even then it doesn't make sense.

>Wardog squadron went from a bunch of rookies to being a legendary squadron and the president's personal air guard

>Conquest, challenge, and strength all the way.

Ok buddy, sure. Just remember that Ace Combat isn't made for your Alexander the Great roleplay.

>Osea had already captured the Yukes' prime minister.

No they hadn't, Nikanor had been quietly deposed and imprisoned by nationalist rebels after the second mission in the game because they saw him as weak. He was then rescued by the Yuktobanian resistance and Kestrel months later. He had zero value as a bargaining chip with the Belkan-infiltrated Yuktobania at that point, and in fact they were actively trying to kill him, same as President Harling with Osea. Nikanor was basically the Yuke government in exile. This is pretty clearly spelled out in the game, dunno how you missed that.

>let's say Osea doesn't want nuclear war

You say that as though it's not an entirely reasonable assumption. Who the hell actively WANTS a nuclear war? Even in Ace Combat, the most militaristic countries like Belka only used nukes as an absolute last resort (as they should be). There's no way Osea would realistically "want" a nuclear war.

>Did they get anything out of negotiations? No, because the writers were retarded and think of world conflicts from the perspective of a child

Once again, I won't act like the writing in AC5 is anywhere close to perfect, or even that great, but I feel like it's you who is looking at that from the perspective of a child, or at least someone with a VERY outdated view of war. There are plenty of irl wars where absolutely no real gains happened at all. Off the top of my head there's the War of 1812, Iran–Iraq War, and the Seven Years' War. Look up "Status quo ante bellum". Regardless, what negotiations would there be? Even if you're looking at this through a realistic lens, the entire war was illegitimate and carried out by illegitimate governments, it would be absurd for the rightful Harling-led Osean government to claim territory conquered by the illegitimate force that tried to overthrow them. It would also be an incredible sign of bad faith on Osea's part to still take territory owned by a known ally, and in a real-life setting nobody would ever want to ally themselves with Osea ever again for fear of being conquered like Yuktobania.

>That did not happen in the game

Yes it did, at the beginning of the last mission Harling and Nikanor sign a peace agreement establishing a proper friendship between the two countries. Technically the Cold War was supposed to have ended in 1995 with the Belkan war, but the way Bartlett and other characters talk about Yuktobania in the beginning makes it clear that the "peace" established then was about as real as the "peace" established with the Apollo–Soyuz Test Project between the US and USSR.

>That's all that happened.

No it wasn't, also way to ignore the "crushed the Grey Men and Belka once and for all" part of things. That part's a pretty big deal. It essentially makes the Circum-Pacific war the ultimate conclusion of the Belkan War.

It being a combat game is irrelevant to the fact that it makes zero sense in-universe to be as bloodthirsty or warmongering as you seem to want to be.

>Shattered Skies, which comes later chronologically.

What the hell are you talking about? Shattered Skies takes place 5-6 years before AC5. Not to mention I don't see how that's relevant.

>No indication of "more friendly than when it started.

You have to be completely thematically tone-deaf to not get that from the dialogue. If you've actually played AC5, which at this point I'm thoroughly unconvinced of, you would certainly get that.

>Conquered land is conquered land and has Osean troops on it. Unless you suggest Harling is just a sucker.

Yeah you have the political tact of a 12 year old if you think that makes sense. Once again, Osea keeping occupied Yuktobanian land would be political suicide for Osea. They would likely be instantly seen as the next Belka, and we all know how that turned out for the Belkans.

>Status quo ante bellum

>Is lame and gay.

Yeah, and gravity is lame and gay so I should be able to ignore that it's a thing that happens. Seriously dude you should see a doctor cause that total-war boner has clearly been going longer than 4 hours.

>Just another case of things being unchanged by the end

What exactly is "unchanged" about the Grey Men at the end of the game? At the beginning they're a global force covertly sowing seeds of discord so that Belka can rise again in the future, and then by the end of the game they're destroyed. There's nothing "unchanged" about that.

>>15676551

Once again, territory claimed by an illegitimate government for illegitimate reasons. Not to mention a bargaining chip wasn't necessary in the first place. Nikanor and Harling were going to sue for peace long before the invasion of Yuktobania even happened. The only thing that prevented that was their kidnapping. It's likely that in Harling's eyes, that invasion shouldn't have happened in the first place, and therefore the territory is rightfully Yuktobania's. Regardless, occupying and annexing a territory are two different things, and annexing a massive territory in particular and integrating it with the rest of an already large continent-spanning country would be incredibly difficult and costly. It would be just as impractical as the US invading and annexing Russia or China and expecting everything to go smoothly. There would be large-scale uprisings left and right, not to mention the previously discussed international community being incredibly pissed off and scared of Osea.

D-do you realize what a cobra is? It's called a "post-stall maneuver" for a reason. Stalling is kinda essential to the whole thing. Also, you can clearly see it isn't "just stalling" from the vapor behind it. You can see it's AoA goes well in excess of 90° and then it quickly returns to conventional flight. That's definitely a basic cobra.

>exceeding wing loading

Dude come on, you're just regurgitating words you don't understand here. Wing loading is just the weight of the aircraft divided by the area of its lifting surface. You can't "exceed wing loading". If what you meant was "exceeding the maximum load of the wing" then that's still retarded, because those wings are meant to take hard maneuvers at up to 9.9Gs. That F-35 is using all of its external hardpoints too, which means it is more limited in how many Gs it can pull. While remaining under 6-7.5Gs then there's no way it's anywhere near its loading limit.

>F-35 literally cannot pull these maneuvers

And yet it does exactly that in the video. You also either forget that while wing loading does have an effect on turn performance, it's not even remotely the only factor that goes into such things. For example, the MiG-23MLD has lower wing loading than the F-16 (80.59-88.11 lb/sqft versus 88.3 lb/sqft) does this mean that the MiG-23 is a better dogfighter than the F-16? Not by a longshot! Wing loading isn't as simple as "smaller is better". Aircraft with higher wing loading tend to have superior instantaneous turn rates (a noted weakness of the F-16) and control input response, while aircraft with lower wing loading tend to have inferior roll rates and input response, but superior sustained turn rates. Designing a nimble aircraft like a fighter requires finding a good balance in wing loading along with a multitude of other factors. Also, the calculations I've seen done for the wing loading on the F-35 all seem to have one big flaw: none of them take into account the surface area of the body, which generates a significant amount of lift that needs to be accounted for before judgement can be passed. I doubt that the F-35A has lower wing loading than the F-16, but I'd be willing to bet good money that it's lower than the F/A-18, and even lower when talking about the F-35C.

>not to mention the fuel being used as coolant running through the wings already are a fire hazard on their own just by sitting on the runway

Wrong on all three counts I'm afraid. First, the fuel isn't being used as "coolant", it's a heat sink. The F-35 uses PAO as coolant like every other fighter. And before you say it, no, it using fuel as a heat sink isn't special either. Here's a paper from 1973 that discusses the use of a similar system in the XB-70 Valkyrie to act as the heatsink for the avionics systems and counteract friction heating (look to Section 6):

http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/912902.pdf

Among modern high-performance aircraft, it'd be easier to list aircraft that DON'T use fuel as some kind of heatsink.

Second, the fuel doesnt run through the wings themselves, they're far to thin to be able to do that efficiently while maintaining structural rigidity. The closest it gets is running through the wing roots to the Fuel-Air Heat eXchanger (FAHX) located above the right air intake, opposite the gun on the F-35A.

Thirdly, this system is no more a fire hazard on a hot summer runway than the dark-colored fuel trucks already sitting there that get painfully hot.

>that would heat up and explode due to drag

You can't possibly be serious. Are you seriously implying that friction heating on an F-35, a plane with a top speed around mach 1.6-1.7, would be anywhere near significant enough to ignite the fuel inside of it? That's the dumbest shit I've heard all day. Like seriously, it's not like it's performing it at top speed, no plane can do that. It won't even be transsonic at that point. At those speeds there's no way the air around the plane would be anything but frigid.

>according to the fucking Compendium of Annual Reports of the JSF

I assume you mean the one by the Department of Testing and Evaluation? Cause I read that one too, and while it does find that the fuel system can create a fire in the presence of missile fragments (like all aircraft), it certainly doesnt back up the rest of the shit you just spewed.

Honestly, I don't know what's worse, Assault Horizon itself or the fact that we're confirmed to not be getting it with PC. I get that PC is still pretty unpopular in Japan but still, you wouldn't think it would be that hard to give us SOMETHING.

Holy shit you're so completely out of your depth it's hilarious to watch you two duke it out. Like are you really this illiterate? I bet you get your aviation news from fucking Jalopnik.

KONO HAS SPOKEN

there will be no microtransactions in Ace Combat 7.

(If any of you can read Korean)

http://bbs.ruliweb.com/news/read/115012

things confirmed here (as far as I know)

>Infinity's fuel system and all other microtransactions are gone from the game

>there are 180 emblems in the game (DLC not included) that can all be unlocked in-game. There will be no option to purchase them with real money, and it will take multiple playthroughs to get them all

>there are 150 aircraft/weapons/parts combinations in the game. It will apparently be very difficult to unlock all aircraft on your first playthrough.

>they still aren't ready to confirm much about multiplayer, but cross-play between consoles and PC isn't happening.

>as for mods, they can't explicitly allow anything that would violate the aircraft licenses they have, but they like the idea of players being able to customize their aircraft's appearance as much as they like.

>PC specifically will have some kind of anti-cheat implementation in multiplayer.

>VR mode might get DLC in the future.

>collaboration skins (like the idolm@ster skins) are being considered and may be in development.

I'm surprised by the lack of microtransactions. Given that Infinity was the reason for the continuation of the franchise, it's very surprising Namco didn't force them in.

>pc specifically will have some kind of anticheat implementation in multiplayer

So Easy Anti-Cheat and Denuvo on top of eachother. Fucking nice.
