I liked both, but I prefer the lategame content in 2205 over the "let's make a coal drill for the 100th time" in 2070. I do wish 2205 had expanded on 2070's military options rather than reducing it down.

Anno always had population classes that are richer and live in better conditions as they tier up.
The black man is the lower tier. All he needs is purple drank and a small church to avoid.
The basic bitch is the mid tier, she needs expensive jewelry and spicy food.
The patrician is the top tier, he needs classical music and books.
Jokes aside, it's probably because there's several different empires colonizing islands during 1800 and you'll get representatives of each to pick from. England really wasn't the only empire with boats on the sea at the time or the only relevant marine power.

They started years and years ago but they've either only just revealed their true colours or we ignored their antics.
It reminds me of those games where you play a disguised monster and steadily infect the survivors and then revealing yourself near the end when you've pretty much won so as to mop up the rest of the survivors.
