What was the LAST decently enjoyable Skating/Boarding/Extreme Sports/Wheelshoes Jumparound game that was fully released?
I've played every worthwhile Tony Hawk game twice over and I want something new yet familiar.

thps1 thps2 are flawed, the only reason to play is muh atmosphere. thps3 is perfect but thps4 is perfect+ with thug1 being alright and thug2 being epic and perfectly fine

THPS 4 was decent. 3 was my personal favorite. The Underground games just didn't tickle my fancy.
Also play THUG Pro if you're bored.

THPS4 is crap. Anybody who says that THUG was the turning point has to have some issues. The whole point was to try do as many of the special/combo/points in a combo/gaps/points in a round as you can, and THPS perfected that. By having a time limit it meant that you had to try and do a handful of things within that time limit, under constraints, rather than "try this particular trick and you have as long as you need to get it right"

Also, the smaller, tighter (and more streamlined) level design meant that secret areas like the secret area in the hangar and the spooky mansion in the suburb were a lot more fun than Generic Suburb #323 that THUG and THPS were full of.

It could have been handled much better.
Scouting out the park/location on foot before skating is a good idea, and being able to see where all the objectives are BEFORE being thrown into the mix is also a good idea. It should have been handled in rounds, i.e. an on-foot exploration round followed by a skating round and not just a constant intermingling of both.

>Scouting out the park/location on foot before skating is a good idea
It's really not- by using these closed in, small levels, they could be a lot more creative with the design because they didn't have to make the level conform to an environment. Take for example, if you could scout out an area before hand, you would (or could) inevitably find secret areas before you even enter the level.
>and being able to see where all the objectives are BEFORE being thrown into the mix is also a good idea
A terrible idea for the same reason.
>It should have been handled in rounds, i.e. an on-foot exploration round followed by a skating round and not just a constant intermingling of both
Why are you playing a skating game if you want to walk around on foot?

Have you played THPS4 recently? Like, in the last couple of years? Boot it up and see if you enjoy that. My main gripe with it is that every mission starts with a long ass voiced conversation, lasts for two seconds (like it should if you're good) and then you have to sit through a 15-second halt: boom sound, clapping, money sound, clapping again, point gained sound, then a point assignment menu, then a save promt. This kills the pace.

Care to elaborate? With the timer gone, reverts now being an acessory to the crime of spine transfers and manuals being a gateway to freestyle without having to slow down, where do you think it is more difficult? Goal-wise? Not sure if any goals in thps4 broke the 300k mark

Goal wise yes, there are some tricky missions and the pro missions making you do a lot more crazy stuff.
But then again, earlier tony hawks you can eventually complete all the goals by completing them one by one.

Here's how i see it: THPS1-3 let you blast through the goals in one session without stopping, THUG let you get off-board and get to whatever goal you wanted but ALSO allowed you to select any goal from any chapter wheteher or not you found that particular goal's NPC. THPS4 imo has worst of both worlds, you can't blast through things because of the dialog shit, and you can't quickly warp nor walk to goals (unless you found the person already).

I always really liked Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX. Ends up sort of playing like Tony Hawk 1.5. It's not the best game in the world, but I certainly count it as part of the series. I never did play the sequel, though. Gotta get around to that.
I know there was also Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer. I never played that but can't imagine how it could play similarly to Tony Hawk. Matt Hoffman is the exact same game as Tony Hawk in all but name, but surfing would make no sense for that.
