You might have a point if it wasn't coming from Discord. Outside of communication in games and being used by every dumb pirate site I've seen, what advantages do they have? They would have less presence than greenmangaming in the game selling market. Their chat maybe used for gaming but they're so far behind the pack of gog and steam that I don't think they'll make a dent. They'll be like 1% of 0.5% of the trickle of online game sales. If they're going for a bundle of games at a low cost, even humble bundle outdoes them there. A little late to the game and likely going way over their heads and I can't wait to see them fail within a year or two.

Fragmenting the [[digital]] market is going to be an awful fucking mess, though, because you're going to end up with everybody and their grandmother selling games digitally through their services - and then when those services go belly up, all those purchases will evaporate and leave people wondering where their fucking games went. It's going to ruin confidence in the market.
Which is fine from a long view perspective, since it aids the coming collapse - it's just a shame that it will be a PC-only collapse, and drive more people to consoles where only a few flagship companies run the entirety of the market. If bigger and more popular outlets like Steam or GOG go under - they'll likely be bought out and absorbed by competitors, preserving some of those purchases. Though you'd likely lose future access to any games which are no longer sold due to licensing fuckery.

If you want to get into an online game these days it's either Roll20 (cancer) or Discord (concentrated cancer that sells your data to taiwanese furries) and when you bring this up, the default response is "There's no other options!"
