Morrowind Multiplayer Update 0.7 has been released in beta, allowing any obvious bugs to be squashed before it's official release. The main reason this took so long is that the team wanted to rewrite a lot of their old code, which failed. Now things are mostly back on track and hopefully we can expect updates more often again.

The mod has finally made custom items, potions and enchantments synchronized between players which is something all other multiplayer projects failed to do. This marks the end of a big hurdle and the mod is now by far the furthest Morrowind has ever gotten towards having fully functional multiplayer. There are also lots of other fixes and synchronization improvements:

>Weather is now fully synchronized, with sudden transitions when teleporting to other areas and gradual transitions when walking across regions.

>The explored world map is now saved and loaded, along with all discovered markers on it.

>Bound items can no longer be made permanent by quitting the server while having them in your inventory.

>Items can no longer be duped in containers.

>Many other improvements. Follow the link to read the full post.

Only one question remains. Do we have a fucking server host ready for when this update gets released? My body is ready.

In other news, Tamriel Rebuilt has put out another release. Version 18.07 Old Ebonheart implemented the eponymous city and its surrounding region into the playable game. The most current version, 18.09, is a bugfix package and can always be found on the Morrowind Nexus or the main site.

Not all news can be good however. The OpenMW project has run into a fair bit of drama recently regarding future design choices and advanced scripting support. The last time the community was shaken up this much was when lead developer Scrawl left after the project refused to migrate to GitLab. They have currently vowed to step up moderation to control "toxicity" within the forums and invoked Wheaton's Law as a standard for enforcing such guidelines. Let us hope these people can get over petty egotistical disputes and actually finish their damn engine. I would hate to see yet another open source project fall to an oppressive code of conduct like we have seen with the Linux kernel.

But they did switch to Gitlab and said they were going to switch before Scrawl mentioned anything about it, from what I've gathered he was annoyed that the OpenMW community didn't care much for the FLOSS advocacy aspect of the project and showed no interest in using the engine to make their own games with it compared to using it as an engine replacement for Morrowind.

And as I expected reading that thread this is all thanks to a some nobody who pretends to be a bigshot in the Morrowind modding community, this type of drama doesn't deserve a post on their front page to address something that probably less than a dozen people will be involved with. At least they're not using this occasion to adopt a CoC.

Other than that you have to choose between going OpenMW or playing the original engine. The original engine is stable roughly 90% of 50% of the time, if you don't mind crashes though i do suggest sticking with it as it's the easiest way to get vanilla visuals with the original water shader. If you can't stand the crashing switch to OpenMW, the water won't look right but everything else will and it will run a hell of a lot better. My personal recommendation is to stick with the vanilla engine, it's a piece of shit, but it's a beautiful piece of shit and in my opinion putting up with the occasional crash is part of the Morrowind experience, it's something we all can come together to bitch about.

If you do use the vanilla engine you may want to look at the Morrowind Code Patch, though be sure to look through all the options and turn off anything that doesn't sound appealing.

Oh also on the topic of Morrowind, are there any mods that make Morrowind a much longer game? One of the problems with TES3MP was that skills progressed way too fast. I tried playing with the speed of skill progression, but even then you can max out a skill pretty damn quickly. Some kind of mechanical means of slowing down progression would be better than a console command to slow down skill growth.

I think these shitty enhanced editions of Skyrim were a way to play that strategy in Peoria and Oblivion and Morrowind would have been the next targets if it had worked out. They would have to publicly justify why the 10 dollar versions of vanilla Morrowind have been removed from every distributor and replaced with a bloated 30 dollar HD version that is incompatible with all established mods. It's not like with Blizzard games where they can do whatever they want to their classic games because they have exclusive selling rights. They'd have to remove Morrowind from Steam, GoG, and all those minor game distributors. It would require a new modding community to spring up and start making mods on the client that are at least comparable with the long-established ones we have now. Original Morrowind fans wouldn't go for this. We would just keep playing our physical copies. The only people who would be interested in such a thing are the idiots who wanted to try Morrowind but were turned off by the fact that its an RPG. Not enough Skyrim babies would buy it. At the end you'd have a failed project that nobody is buying PLUS the original Morrowind would be off the market for good, meaning Zenimax won't even get their occasional $10 anymore and they'd probably start prowling Amazon and eBay to hit sellers of the original game with frivolous lawsuits. Overall, it's a big risk, likely to fail, and it would cost them more than to just keep paying marketing firms to gaslight Morrowind discussion.

So I was just testing this out and while it does let you make and save and share custom potions it has a hard cap on how much you can fortify an attribute (which if you exceed it fully removes the fortification) which is somewhere around 200. This means super potions are impossible. As an Alchemist I'm mad as fuck.

my guess is no, the few popular multiplayer servers that exist are all no-fun allowed. I even got a direct message from one of the admins 10 minutes after I joined one demanding I change my name because I was nord character and it wasn't nord enough (i actually tried to make a nord name, it wasn't heilhitler2000).

So the trick with NPCs is that some of them have totally unique things to say and those are the really interesting people in the world you actually want to have conversations with, the rest of the NPCs are just sign posts that can help point you in a direction (which really, that's what most people are to a foreigner in a strange land). It follows a pretty simple logic: is this person a commoner? Then they have nothing interesting to say. Is this person someone important to the world or story? Then they'll have at least a few interesting things to say. The trick to knowing who to talk to really comes with getting to know the various groups that make up Vvardenfell's society. But I'm also a lorefag who will read every book in the game so your mileage may vary.

Lucky you never had a crash, probably your specific hardware or set-up just happens to have friendly drivers.

Unofficial code patch is good quality of life mod, it makes it so you can toggle sneak along with other tweaks and it all has an auto checklist so you only run the parts of the patch you want.
