Right, because as we know Yoshi is not supposed to have round nostrils. No, he is supposed to have perfectly square nostrils just like the pixels depict.

ebin

It is great that you can tell there is a smile going on with those pixels in the first place, and again the intended look is obviously a bunch of hard square edges along every color difference of Yoshi, right?

Of course the filter isn't perfect because the original sprite isn't perfect. It is a low resolution sprite due to limits of the hardware. This is like you arguing that pic related his how Mario is intended to look, all the official artwork be damned.

It's also funny that Nintendo and their soy sucking, 20-something "loyal consumers" actually think you can shut down piracy. It isn't shittier than the original sprite though. It has some problems, but you just like all "muh colored blocks" fags exaggerate the problems. I don't even advocate for smoothing filter generally anyway. I do advocate for filters that recreate the CTR look as much as possible as that is what was actually intended. Despite your delusions to the contrary the developers never wanted you looking at raw unfiltered pixels. They expected you to see them through a CTR screen which definitely did not preserve half the clarity of the pixels you are arguing for.

>It isn't shittier than the original sprite though.

It is. It's complete fucking garbage.

>Despite your delusions to the contrary the developers never wanted you looking at raw unfiltered pixels

This is the only true thing you've said so far. But one thing I know for sure, is that nobody would ever want you to see their game through those disgusting "blob filters".

The problem with these blob filters is not that it removes edges, but that it fucking creates things that weren't there, and generally warps and twists the image, basically destroying all the hard work of an artist just because of your aversion to jaggies. Raw pixels is absolutely the lesser evil when it comes to blob filters.

Just look at this example:

In the raw image, the ring is complete, in the filtered version, the ring is broken. This would never happen on a CRT. You see, despite the fact the developers never intended for you to see raw pixels, it still preserves the intended image better than these fucking meme filters. Not to mention that in motion, the image would constantly be recalculated in weird ways causing great inconsistency between frames of animation, and interacting with background layers, like one of those videos of "art filters" where everything morphs around strangely. It's wrong, misleading, ugly, and doesn't look closer to either the CRT look or the hand drawn look. That's the problem here.

To go off on a tangent here and talk more about of implied color illusions rather than edges/points, another great example is Pikachu's sprite from Crystal.

At first it looks as though his cheeks are red, but pokemon sprites could only have 2 colors, plus white and black. But if you look closer, you can see his cheeks are actually the same color as the brown stripes on his back. It's weird, but they chose a color that would appear reddish when surrounded by yellow, but looked brownish when near black pixels. And it's not just Pikachu, the entire case of Pokemon, despite only have two colors each, appear so alive and colorful. It's amazing to they could create so much with so little, it's one of my my favorite examples of great pixel art.

>It sure was nice of you to ignore the last part of the entire post.

Except I didn't ignore it, but just for you I'll go over the whole fucking thing all over again.

>It isn't shittier than the original sprite though. It has some problems, but you just like all "muh colored blocks" fags exaggerate the problems

It isn't just "some problems", it is a fundamentally flawed way of presenting the image which is less faithful to the handrawn art. Since you have trouble seeing what it on Yoshi, I made an example using a ring to show how filters DESTROY information contained in the original sprite. Just because it doesn't have sharp corners doesn't make it more faithful, that is a incredibly shallow surface-level metric of comparing them.

>I don't even advocate for smoothing filter generally anyway

Good.

>I do advocate for filters that recreate the CTR look as much as possible as that is what was actually intended. Despite your delusions to the contrary the developers never wanted you looking at raw unfiltered pixels

Only true thing you've said so far. I agree. However, the blob-filter version is even further from what was intended to be seen.

>They expected you to see them through a CTR screen which definitely did not preserve half the clarity of the pixels you are arguing for

The filtered versions preserves even less clarity than what a CRT would, and in addition, warps and destroys the data in ways that a CRT never would. Unfiltered is the lesser evil compared to blob-filters.

The whole fucking point is that Rambo the bad example. And it's not official artwork, he just connected the pixels together to show how bad they look. Why are you replying to a post you obviously didn't read?

I ignored that strawman for a reason.

>Only true thing you've said so far. I agree. However, the blob-filter version is even further from what was intended to be seen.

Blob-filter is a gross exaggeration and I do not agree that it is further from intended since half of the issues are entirely imagined on your part.

>The filtered versions preserves even less clarity than what a CRT would, and in addition, warps and destroys the data in ways that a CRT never would. Unfiltered is the lesser evil compared to blob-filters.

The clarity lost is square edges. For example, the problem with the filtered nostrils on Yoshi caused by the square white highlight pixel being turned into a round highlight. The "tentacle" arm has the same black outline just no longer squared off. Your entire problem is from the square edges being rounded off. "Muh colored blocks" perfectly describes the malfunction your brain is having over the issue.

>>15602177

>I ignored that strawman for a reason.

But the same shit is happening to Yoshi, that's just what this filter does, that's how it works. Since it it does not intelligently design the filtered sprites, it's pure luck whether a spire comes out "passable", which is arguably never, and games have thousands upon thousands of sprites, and on top of that these filters cause sprites to interact with the background layer in ways a CRT would never cause.

>Your entire problem is from the square edges being rounded off.

It's doing a lot more than just rounding them off, you said it yourself:

>the problem with the filtered nostrils on Yoshi caused by the square white highlight pixel being turned into a round highlight

Yeah, problem, which the unfiltered version doesn't have. Which makes the unfiltered version more faithful to the hand drawn version.

Actually, the situation with isozone was different than that of emuparadise. Isozone literally was shut down by it's own owner because he wanted to create a "legal" ROM/ISO sharing service. It's just about as retarded as that sounds. Also, he didn't even let people that wanted to back all the Isos and ROMs up and host it somewhere else do it, because he was feeling extra jewy that day and shut the whole damn site down.

Spoiled milk past the "expiration date" is still good for two weeks afterwards. Stale/moldy bread is fine if you either ignore the funkyness or have enough other ingredients/condiments to overpower the moldy taste. Cheese you just slice of the moldy parts and the rest is fine. Only spoiled food I had trouble scavenging was meat, I could never get the taste to be tolerable.
