It's about innocent not vampires called ghouls trying to live their lives in peace, eating people. While the fascist humans try to hunt them down to start another holocaust. Main character is a race mixed abomination " half human half ghoul" who tries to stop the race war by preaching multicultarism and tolerance. He does this while simultaneously killing hundreds of humans.

I have very mixed feelings about this series, in both the original manga and :re the plot starts strong but then loses track of itself about midway through and shit stops making sense, but I'll boil it down to this. Both humans and Ghouls have legitimate claim to supremacy, Kaneki wants to bring peace between the two factions, the art is DAMN BEAUTIFUL at times, and a manga protagonist actually bangs the love interest for once. There's literally an entire chapter dedicated to him banging and impregnating her, it's rad. Overall I'd recommend it if you like beautiful art paired with a fairly aimless plot and mountains of angst.

Parasyte is more of a short story on one person of an effect on the world but in the end it's the protagonists personal story. I'd argue it's more developed too since it was shorter and self contained. Like System Shock.
Tokyo Ghoul is trying to be a major epic like most anime try to be. There are major differences between the two stories. They're only connected by genre.

I feel like Tokyo Ghoul started out trying to do this, as it originally just focused on Kaneki trying to integrate into Ghoul Society while still keeping in touch with his human side, but as is usual with manga the power creep forced the stakes higher and higher until he becomes the one-eyed king and suddenly there's ghoul-zombies taking over the world. It's the only series I can think of that fully transitioned between being intriguing and philosophical to being hilariously dumb TWICE.

Don't bother with the show, it's almost complete trash and a textbook case of how not to do an adaptation. The soundtrack is top tier though. Best way to enjoy Tokyo Ghoul is to listen to the soundtrack while reading the manga.
