Physical copies take roughly three months to produce in these quantities and ship to stores, as they have to arrive at least two weeks before launch night. Instead of finishing the game and then pressing and shipping it, they press what they need to, and finish the game and install it as a patch. That, or they poorly optimized it and just made you download the part that didn't fit on disk.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Black Ops 4, is in fact, Call of Duty/Black Ops 4, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Call of Duty + Black Ops 4. Black Ops 4 is not a game unto itself, but rather another paid component of a non functioning Call of Duty system made unpatchable by the Call of Duty corelibs, shell utilities and broken system components comprising a full game as defined by KOTAKU. Many computer users run a modified software version of the Call of Duty system every day without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Call of Duty which is used today is often called "Black Ops 4", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the Call of Duty system, developed by the Call of Duty Project. There really is a Black Ops 4, and these people aren't using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Black Ops 4 is the patch layer: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to other programs that don't run. The patch layer is an essential part of a game, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete Call of Duty. Black Ops 4 is normally used in combination with the Call of Duty system: the whole system is basically Call of Duty with Black Ops 4 added, or Call of Duty/Black Ops 4. All the so-called "Black Ops 4" distributions are really distributions of Call of Duty/Black Ops 4.

I don't really hate Day 1 patches, I understand the purpose of it and why it's done. Usually a game like this has a massive patch because the overall size is too much to fit on a Blu-Ray (which is about 50GB). However, the reason that this is being done is because they didn't finish the game when it was sent to distribution. Crunch times on big games are infamous, but it seems to me that they were still trying to piece together the entire game when it came time to ship it to the disc manufacturer. They've got several studios working on this, so it's completely likely that the studios were handling different aspects of the game. One studio does a few of the maps, another handles the weapons or whatever, and so on. This entire thing could have been dealt with if they eliminated physical copies, and switched to digital only. Then you could pre-load the game and play when it came out, with very few patches needed.

lot of games use engine that requires downloading entire groups of files to change any little thing, even just basic text. i doubt its actually 50gb of new content - just overwriting older files and data, but the engine and system requires downloading it all and overwriting the old packages. they probably are overwriting nearly the entire installed game and have to redownload all the uncompressed audio and graphics along with basic code changes that should only be a few kb.

A good chunk of people couldn't download games because they had a 512mb flash drive as their primary storage device. 4TB are affordable, which means this game would take up 2.5% of your total drive. You can pre-load the game as well, which means you can significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to get the game. It's far from optimal, but this is what you get when an entire generation of game developers are lost to indie shit and whatnot. I have a couple of normalfag friends at work who are hardcore into CoD, Battlefield, etc, but even they aren't buying new ones, mainly because the games suck balls now and they know it and have told me in nicer terms that they suck, but also because of shit like this.
One likes playing the Zombies mode a lot, so he's more into it because he thinks Zombies is fun. He's a little brain addled because someone in his family introduced him to drugs at a young age (got hard arrested), but even he's not falling for this shit.
Even though I don't like the games, I can see how some people do, and those people are getting alienated and hard. The games just aren't fun anymore. Fun shit never gets retained, the company never re-uses concepts or builds on them to create something new down the line and it's because of that contract they had with the US Army for propaganda purposes to get funding in the first place, but now that they're free of it and use their own funding their developers are still under the influence of the execs and since the team's been under the yoke for so long, they haven't developed the skills or imagination to create original content.
They need to drop the bullshit, go nuts and stop making sequels and break out into a new mode of thinking with an original game that breaks the boundries they work under, because what they're making now doesn't justify this shit they're doing in this article.
If they actually made good games, people wouldn't be focusing on the fact that they have a literal 50GB patch day one and only put 300MB of underwater basket-weaving porno on disk.

Supposedly, in ancient times, it was actually correct to write the number 4 as IIII instead of IV. It breaks the rule convention of Roman numerals, but supposedly it was quite common to refer to the number 4 that way.
I learned this through VS Books Unofficial Final Fantasy 7 Guide. In FF7, from what I remember, in the clock puzzle in the Ancient temple, 4 was represented as IIII and the book explained why.

IIRC the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) forces them to let people use their own modems, but they don't make it convenient because they make bank on retarded rental fees. From a security perspective they are also dogshit. For instance: https://www.securityforrealpeople.com/2016/04/arris-motorola-surfboard-modem.html
These are used by Comcast. They come with a free CSRF vulnerability, so I could go on your favorite forum and embed an "image" with the URL http://192.168.100.1/reset.htm and anyone who loads that page and tries to load that image will trigger their modem's reset and get kicked off of the internet. That shit's been patched by now, but just goes to show how fucking terrible they are.
Anyway, buy your own modem. Never rent. It might seem expensive now but it'll save you a lot of money later, especially when they (invariably) raise their rental fees. Comcast modems are inconvenient bullshit with security holes anyway.
>>15566598
Satellite always has dogshit caps, even in the US. If your entire rural zone has dogshit internet though you might want to consider rolling out municipal broadband though. That's when you have the local town hall create its own ISP for residents, which is usually much more cost-effective and accountable than anything the corporate assholes from far away are willing to offer you. Still, the ISP companies really hate that shit and in the US they lobbied a lot of states successfully to pass laws against municipal broadband, so you might want to check if Canada has anything similar on the books.
Seriously man, talk it over with your fellow residents, and bring it up at town hall. Municipal broadband will probably be loads better than what you're dealing with and I think everyone will support a solution to godawful price-gouging internet.

Does this mean if I have an image named 1989六四事件 and post it any chinks in the thread can get cut off immediately?
000000 No.15595526
>>15595447
No because that wouldn't automatically disconnect a chink. If they were to get disconnected just for receiving 1989六四事件 then they would already get disconnected just for you writing the phrase on a page they visited (since naturally that page has to be downloaded to be seen). When you have an image tag on a page, the viewer's browser will go to that server and submit a bog-standard GET request to the URL to retrieve the image which it will then display to the page. But when your modem is located on 192.168.100.1 and features an easy link to reset.htm that doesn't require a password or anything, just clicking it (which would be sending a GET request to the server for the reset.htm page) resets your modem. So, when I post an "image" with a URL (no upload) telling the browser the image is at http://192.168.100.1/reset.htm, it causes your browser to send a GET request to your modem, which will be responded to with something other than an image (image fails to load, like a broken link), and the modem, receiving your GET request to the reset page, will reset automatically as it always does upon receiving a GET request there.
This shit might seem mildly confusing but if you have a telnet client or netcat, you can just connect to websites on port 80 and send GET / HTTP 1.0 and experience the amazing wonders of how the HTTP protocol works under the hood. It's honestly pretty damn basic. Go look up the protocol if you're interested in that.
To put the important bits without technical language, when you put an image on a page, your browser tries to download that image even if it's not an image (because it can't figure out it's not an image until after it has tried to download it). When your modem has a page that resets your internet connection as soon as someone tries to download that page without using any security authentication whatsoever (security fail), then I can declare an image tag saying the image is located at your reset page, and your browser will automatically try to download the reset page thinking it's getting an image, at which point your router resets your internet connection. If you're the kind of guy that keeps trying to reload a page when his connection times out, I might get you to waste a full half hour or so trying to reload the page that's resetting your internet connection.
Your computer is downloading everything you see on the internet, even if you're not saving it anywhere. It has to, because downloading literally means "receiving data over a network connection" and you can't see information before your computer receives it.
