The question you should ask is how the hell can zombies stay operational for two weeks if they only eat meat from non-zombie things, yet almost everyone is a zombie two days in. Minecraft, the game, sold amazingly well and still does. It has become standard software on countless computers. My brother works in the public school system doing IT, and according to him every single PC has Minecraft on it. I think Microsoft managed to convince the government/education board that it was an "educational/creative tool" and sell them millions of bulk licences for it.

Minecraft: Story Mode by Telltale games did fucking abysmally because Minecraft's primary audience is 6-12 year old boys, who really don't give a fuck about story and just want to autistically build penis castles in the forest while taking to creepy 30-something basement dwellers on whatever server they can connect to on their awful internet connection. Making a "story mode" for a game like Minecraft is ridiculous because it's meant to be a game where you make your own stories and adventures.

I don't think it's just because they made a story for a game that doesn't need one. It's also because Minecraft Story Mode plays like a typical Telltale game, and as such is much more mechanically stripped down and railroaded compared to Minecrafts' freedom and gameplay. That said the story is also shit. It's a generic defeat an ancient evil story that feels disconnected to its' source material
