I HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM:

I have the "remake" of Flashpoint called ARMA: Cold War Assault and it runs like absolute ass on modern hardware- apparently you have to "slow down the CPU clocking" or some such to get it not to fuck up…

HELP PLEASE.

I also have Operation: Flashpoint Elite on the original Xbox and I loved the hell out of that.

It seems to run buttery smooth for 1-2 seconds, stop for 0.5 then run smoothly again for another 1-2 over and over.

I tried one of the fixes but apparently it doesn't work. I have an i7 and a GTX 1070 so fuck knows what's the problem…

I get the same issues as well, 1050Ti with an 880K.

I can run it fine on low settings, but the moment they are cranked up even to levels befitting high-spec PCs of the time, the game shits itself.

Though the game is pretty antiquated on an engine that is around about as stable as the Soviet Union, even today.

The only thing I did was click "autodetect" when it showed the preferences configuration.

Apart from that, try limiting it to a single core. Also run as admin, compatibility mode, etc.

OFP is single core btw. If your individual cores are shit then you'll have problems

I'm in the same boat as OP, I remember playing OPF back when it came out and actually finishing the American campaign and then forgetting about the game. When I decided to revisit it a few months ago and see what mods were available I realized that the community is an absolute clusterfuck and it's almost impossible to find any sort of comprehensive list of mods and what they're supposed to do.

Also, what's some good user made single player campaigns?

There used to be a decent mod site, but it seems to have gone down. There were a couple of vaguely interesting campaigns, but I dunno, if you want to go crazy with mods, you're better off with the modern releases

The Go-To Total Conversion mods for OFP are

FFUR was an asset replacement mod and SLX is an ai improvement mod, SLX by itself is good and there was really nothing special about FFUR but when you combine the fancy animations and assets of FFUR with the great firefights of SLX you get a keeper. Singleplayer only, but is most suited to spicing up singleplayer missions/campaigns.

It's an extended animation mod run by an autistic Frenchman. Assets are all bland but the animations are top-notch. It's an extension of GRAA3 mod which was a lightweight mod similar to FFUR but with no vehicle replacements. I can't remember if WW4 replaces assets, but I do know it added a whole heap of new camos that were all designed specifically to be toaster-friendly and multiplayer. (mostly to prevent the engine from shitting itself)

If you find a copy of this mod good for you, it added most of the features from the old ECP mods as well as 3D ironsights and some aspects of SLX mod. Not sure if it ran multiplayer as I never tested it.

Isn't a replacement mod, but it's a precursor mod for ACE mod, so expect similar autistic features that improve the base game immensely. Things like workable rucksacks, Tracers that look real fancy, Wounding system that's more fun-oriented than ACE2 or 3. Has tonnes and tonnes of missions available for singleplayer and multiplayer. It's the quintessential multiplayer coop mod king.

Vast array of coop missions, some bad, some good, some WW2. Comfy winter missions and iirc a singleplayer campaign. Aside from the setting and assets, it also added light gameplay features such as attaching satchel charges to vehicles and bleeding, but AI is for the most part vanilla, unlike subsequent mods I've listed.

way back in 2008 there was a good fella that collected all the WW2 assets ever made for the game and compiled them into one workable mod. The best features of Libmod were dragging wounded friendlies to cover (not all shots killed you, some would incapacitate you and you'd need an ally to heal you, SLX took this feature and made it a bit more fun, but isn't multiplayer like Libmod) digging/building fortifications (foxholes too, they were "vehicles" that you or AI could "get in") deployable MGs as well as movable AT guns (could be pushed with neat little animations, or towed by a vehicle) and tanks that had working armor (shots negated damage entirely if they didn't penetrate)

I found a solution.

The solution is to download the ArmA Resistance 2.01 patch, it dramatically increases performance so the game actually works properly, along with various other fixes and improvements.

For the screenshots I had visibility at 5000 at low terrain settings, I had bits of slowdown, though that's likely due to me having a load of other shit open while testing it.

I imagine there's some sort of equilibrium that you can reach that balances the visibility with additional terrain quality.

As an idea of the performance you may get, my basic specs are:

There's also RCWC that adds a lot of authentic stuff, as well as a shitton of missions and campaigns, but, as far as I know, it's Russian-only. Funny how they're one of the only active OFP groups alive to this day.
