With mobos you may actually run into issues with the included hardware. Chipset drivers are available and can be 'forced' at times to work. The part that may be hit or miss would be stuff like the inbuilt audio and ethernet, for example. In such cases, your last resort solution would be installing a PCI card that takes care of that.

As for the core functions, it'll be fine. Mobo manuals may say that there is only 'win10' support, but that means that they only offer win10 drivers for the chipset/ethernet/sound/raid controller, whatever. Even current mobos still have ACPI tables for win7 and even older versions in their BIOS data.

>And all internet browsers and websites should be required to have backwards compatibility with all registered operating systems and versions of javascript, flash, etc. to at least ten years in the past.

No, go fuck yourself.

Because of companies themselves worried about people still using shit old technology you have people having to cripple their designs or make all sorts of nasty workarounds just to support shit like IE11.

I can agree with you about making it unlawful to force software changes upon the user/customer of that software though. You should be able to control the version of the software on your system and I wonder if the "professional" editions of windows 10 allow for this as NO COMPANY would want to have its own mission critical software to be suddenly and forcefully updated without warning.

But there should be no obligation to support older standards. Software providers should be obligated to supply every version of the software a customer has paid for and should allow for control of flow of updates but someone providing content has no obligation to support older methods of that content.

It's like asking for a company to support older and outdated security models for the sake of some fuckwad who hasn't updated their personal browser for 5 years. Put everyone else at risk because some idiots don't want to upgrade? Nah fuck that.

On another note, what is a PC gamer to do? The support on other platforms just isnt' really there.

It's kind of a circular problem too. People on PC want windows because it has this largely supported ecosystem of tools and games but they hate windows and hate not having an alternative. PC gamers would likely switch to linux in a heartbeat if they could be assured their games would work on linux without much hassle but they stick with windows because their games run on it. Because of that, market share in linux desktops stays low.

So the game producers won't work to cover linux systems because the market share is low and the windows users won't switch because the games aren't easily supported on it.

I never said all software should be forced to be backwards compatible. Only browsers and software that works through browsers. Maybe seven is more reasonable, but I think this would be a very good thing.

Well really aside from rare and non-significant circumstances You've had two (four) choices, buy a computer that runs windows, buy a mac because Apple did not permit the operating system from being used on unauthorized hardware To pocket the additional money from selling said hardware, and two nonstandard options, buying a computer with Windows and installing lunix, or buying a server that ran some other OS, or an extremely limited one dedicated for networking tasks by the manufacturer.

Now if Apple weren't giant faggots and actually you know. SOLD THEIR OPERATING SYSTEM TO SYSTEM BUILDERS, they'd probably be a bigger piece of the market than the ass of nearly all computing jokes they are now, and it certainly doesn't help that linux are dripping wet vaginas that actively try to sabotage efforts at eating away at the THREE DECADE LONG advantage microsoft and mac have had over them, and while OSGCA has improved massively mostly as a result of microsoft and apple being incompetent there's still the issue that even with all there is there isn't any real OS level active competition with Microsoft's actual stake in the market their back catalog, and it's effect on computing going forward.

Called the "direct x memory allocation" bug, this is due to the memory overflow problem relating to 32bit integers. Since DX9 isn't patched on anything prior to Win8.1, the maximum amount of memory that can be allocated is 4GB. This is similar to the old pre-32bit patch in Win7x32 to allow windows to use more then 3.2GB of system memory(again 32bit integer overflow problem and no address aware space). So how is this bad? Well, DX is assigning memory space based on that 4GB limit. In Win7's case(x32 and x64), the total amount of available memory is 4GB in DX9 functions, that's shared across vram and system ram. Ever wondered why say skyrim would only use 2.59GB of system memory and 1.41GB of vram when you have 8GB of system memory and 3GB of vram for instance? That's why. Anyway, it's patched in Win10 under build 16232. Win8.1 was patched as well. There was no backwards patching of DirectX function calls to properly allocate memory for any version of windows prior to 8.1 because MS considers those versions of windows deprecated.

I know there's esoteric methods of getting DX11 and DX12 working on Win7. But any title that uses native DX9 functions and hasn't been patched will suffer the same problem. I suppose you could say use the patched DX9 dll's from Win8.1, and I know there's a few injectors that will allow DX to use more memory by writing their own functions and offloading, I think ENB does this but I haven't looked in a while. This is the bugged function here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/api/d3d9/nf-d3d9-idirect3ddevice9-getavailabletexturemem

Without spending a couple of hours digging through plebit threads? No. It was known well enough that there's a few long threads over on the ENB forums though. http://enbseries.enbdev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=5493 The performance difference of course would be noticeable. Disk access is slow, memory access is fast, vram is even faster. The more stuff you can offload into memory means faster load times, less texture offloading, and so on. Same reason why there's such a noticeable difference loading a game off a SSD vs HDD. Biggest benefits to this are games which are 'open world' skyrim, fallout, GTA, MMO's and games that have those "load" areas aka you shimmy through a tight space - that the game precaching the next area. In a case like that, with more memory the game can "suspend" the old cell area, while you're in the new cell area and it doesn't have to reload the old cell. You can do your own tests though, grab windows thread analyzer or something similar, run a game in a non-patched state. Then run the same game in a patched state. Seem to remember, that it works out to being 20-40% faster in various cases.

Good example from a modern game, FFXV when you're traveling through dungeons. Compare how the game "seeks on the HDD" on the playstation, between cell areas. But on the PC it simply suspends the area into memory meaning no slowdown/loading time.

It's not that these people are the "goodest of goys", the majority of people who run win10 literally don't know how to use a computer, plain and simple. There is not one single person I've come into contact with that used win10 of their own volition, they just do not know any better.

I don't even care that linux doesn't support more games at this point, fucking nothing is worth microsoft trying to break my computer with their retarded shit.

Yes I know about the CoC fiasco, and I'm not happy about it, but it still doesn't even come close to microsoft tier.

But IBM did have tons of competitors. By the late 80s, people had realized that it no longer controlled the platform – that's the reason why "IBM compatible" became "Wintel".
