i like it more for the atmosphere and story. the turn based combat is pretty good, but i like collecting stuff, solving the light puzzles, and finding stuff.
Its also a great story about the browning of a white neighborhood at the hands of a jew, and the kids fight back against the jew and banish the subhumans to thier own "dimension".
theres a part where they even travel to the future and there are communist signs put up by the jew, and the town turned into a high-tax police state with subhuman cops.

Koudelka was badly received at the time and a case of compromised design in general. Kikuta wanted a more action-y approach to combat while the other members of the team overruled him for traditional turn-based with tactical elements. I suppose the Judgment Ring mechanics in the PS2 games were an attempt to mesh his wanting more input with their preference to turn based (also the switch from gothic horror with RPG elements hybrid to RPG with horror elements), but Kikuta had no involvement on those and wouldn't do anything that saw actual release until getting contracted for eroge about five years after Koudelka (and of late he seems to be stuck with just indieshit composing; not sure if it's by his own choice or if he's effectively blacklisted). Point being, they were trying to distance SH1 (and the subsequent sequels) from what had been considered a bad game prior.
And as for the PS2 games, the percentage ratio of dark to quirk kept increasing in favor of the latter as the series went on, specifically because their local base had complained that SH1 was 2dark4me tier for a JRPG (which makes me wonder if only MegaTen is allowed to get away with such) and while the team considered it a compliment they'd made something that stood out, their pachislot loving publisher got on their case about not making games with wider appeal (and thus more money). SHII and FtNW were still kept fairly niche due to having a fucking bizarre sense of humor even if increasingly light in tone, and Aruze shitcanned the series and the devs over it in the end.

Siren is fucking poorly made game. It's like Silent Hill's art team meets Hunting Down Freeman's level design, with mind of making hard game. You call fucking Dark Souls hard? Siren is like undefeatable, invincible bosses roaming around area and you fucking kiting them without getting killed and hoping to find some fucking hidden object to progress. Imagine badly made 90's click and point adventure games? Siren is like that, except dozens of unkillable enemies hunting down your ass, and you roaming the size of a town level in 3D without a fucking hint, and if you die you play the level from the beginning. I was autistic enough to collect all the shits and see the hidden ending but I dare say, don't fucking do what I did. It's pain.

You're glaring at a game you own (or at least bothered to pirate) without playing it.
It's a fun game [spoiler]and obsessing over every difference from the classic Doom formula is fucking stupid. We have Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom, Doom 64, and virtually infinite level packs from more than two decades of high quality fan levels. There's more content within the general gameplay framework of classic Doom than pretty much any other game could ever hope to have. If all you want is more of the same then you can have it, with a SHITLOAD of customization and endless combinations. Hell, Brutal Doom having its own lengthy campaign makes it essentially a full fledged fan sequel, made with a bunch of modern sensibilities in mind.
But Doom 4 is different from the millions of hours of content already available and therefore you preemptively hate it.[/spoiler]

I liked Koudelka, but I know it didn't do well. Somewhere there's a timeline where it did as well as Parasite Eve and it helped keep the horror/rpg mashup genre going. Though, when I really think of it, there aren't very many good entries in that niche in the first place, so maybe we're better off. I honestly have to wonder at times if there's only really room for one work to fill a particular, fairly specific niche per generation. Granted, horror RPGs don't tend to crop up that much compared to more standard survival horror, but it's like third gen only had Sweet Home, fourth only had Laplace, and then with fifth Parasite Eve was the one that got big while Koudelka was harshly criticized (admittedly it does have some actual, irrefutable problems like the loading, at least played from disc). Granted, I'm not sure if third and fourth gen even had other direct competition there for those two, but it makes me wonder if one franchise gets considered "enough". Similar with Shadow Hearts as JRPGs with a Earth/historical fiction/horror bent: while it obviously did well enough to secure three games (and spawned as an indirect sequel to a game that did badly, no less), MegaTen's kind of had that as its own niche prior to it, and afterward it's not like any other new IP stepped up to fill the gap SH left, once again leaving MT to its own. Apparently there's some indie game in the works claiming inspiration from both Shadow Hearts and Xenogears, but according to viewer responses to an alpha trailer, it would seem the developers haven't played either and are talking out their asses.

Depending on who you ask, Koudelka might also get considered a bedshitter as well (considering how as hybrid, at the time it seemed to piss off horror fans, RPG fans, and even Kikuta OST fans). And yes, I think there's a tough balance to be managed between trying to disturb the player and and how readily they can counteract it (which can vary on the scale of what is being fought), which might factor into why hybrids like those haven't cropped up more. With Koudelka, I think it certainly worked in its favor that there were no ingame nameplates for monsters or even what they were doing (leading to a lot of "oh fuck what is this?" moments), but at the same time, turn-based combat (which as a generalization, I'll say I don't have much against) and random encounters don't work quite as well with the horror vibe compared to on the screen enemies/encounters and real time combat, at least at that point in time. Maybe Kikuta figured that as well, but again, there's him getting vetoed hard.
Anyhow, might as well mention Laplace's Demon ("Laplace no Ma") SFC saw a 2.0 translation patch released recently, since the original was shoddy and left the game barely playable for a decade or so. Apparently this one's been retranslated and debugged. Might be worth it if you're looking for another horror/RPG hybrid to try.

Play RE4 UHD (2014 Steam version) on professional at 60fps. AI actually moves faster at 60 FPS for some fucking reason and it totally changes how you play. Plus mouse aim is the only thing on par with the Wiis motion aim.

I assume you mean first fear and not PS1. If that's the case you can speedrun the whole thing within 20 minutes or less but I recommend taking the extra time of exploring absolutely everything on your first run.

Yeah, unfortunately in sifting through an assload of their links a while back (because the inherent organization of the site is shit and I wanted to sort them by game for easier use and the search function seems fucking borked), a lot of stuff they host has no direct download. You can open the images from the individual photo popups in their own tabs if you want to save them, but doing so page by page is admittedly more than a bit shit, especially for books with more pages.
