Note: We had initially tried making a thread in /agdg/ for increased productivity and feedback regarding tutorial stage review, but it seems that none of you go on there which is why we're reposting our thread here. Sorry for the lack of communication, but we wanted to try something different.

It's us, Mobius Trip! We haven't made a thread since earlier this year, but that's because we have all been busy with our own issues and with half of us now (myself included today) working full-time, it's difficult to continue chugging along at the same development speed. We decided to use /agdg/ this time because we are at a critical stage in development as finishing this tutorial stage will lead to development of the rest of the game.

We have been working on this game for over three years now, but we think that it's safe to say that our tutorial stage is nearing completion. We have made several big changes, including: ground interpolation implementation for movement on 3D slopes, fully implementing basic player controls, and migration to itch.io because our manager for the previous build's page address is seemingly MIA and we absolutely need to make the master build available for play.

For those unaware, A&CP is a 3D "Collect-a-Thon" platformer inspired by the likes of Banjo-Kazooie and Mario 64. The idea was proposed in a mere thread on /v/, but we ended up forming a team under the name "Mobius Trip" and have been working on this game ever since.

We're open to recruiting artists and programmers for C# language. We still have only one or two 3D modelers/riggers and animators left. It is our weakest link and in a 3D platformer is absolutely vital. Therefore please consider joining the Anton&Coolpecker team or recommend this to those you know who are skilled in 3D software such as Blender. It isn't very difficult to pick up and learn, but to work at it consistently is what our team needs as it is a time-consuming endeavor. We need dedicated members or this project will continue to decrease in productivity. Please share our contact email at the bottom of this post with anyone willing to continuously contribute to this work.

Feedback and suggestions are more than welcome so give our playable build a try and report any bugs encountered during play. Also, give us feedback on the overall shape of the tutorial stage. We have yet to implement the river platforming obstacle and boss fight at the end, but both are WIP. We've recently implemented swimming and underwater mechanics too in this new build, but they need proper testing. What better way to test than playtesting? Give it a spin and tell us what you think!

It's more progress than it sounds like. Getting a level up and running means you also have all the systems in place necessary to complete a level, which means you can start cranking out levels. Tutorial levels should be done last so that your design skills are the most developed when you make them though.

Nice to see you guys again! I wish I could help if I could, but sadly I have 0 experience in anything that could help assist development like programming, rigging, modeling, etc. Nor do I have the resources or a PC powerful enough to invest in it. Again, it seems we share similar issues in time management and personal life. But don't be discouraged! I wish the best of luck to all of you, I'm sure this will come along nicely and I wish to offer the best support I possibly can!

I hope I again can provide positive feedback and insight on this project. I suppose I'll get started test playing and give you notes on what you can improve. I'm glad to hear the issue with slopes was fixed, either due to my comments or someone else noticing. But that said, I've still noticed issues regarding slopes. Walking sideways on them or even upwards on some is still kind of janky and doesn't work 100% of the time. And when hugging a wall or slope and trying to jump onto it, it looks as if they get stuck in the side of the slope / wall. Especially moving forward into it.

Also, the tutorial stage is too big and there's way too many options right out of the gate with multiple different branching paths from start. I also got stuck in that sandy ditch as the slopes still seem to be too steep to climb out of.

Underwater swimming is also fairly slow.

I would say get a good handle on controls and various types of environment before going all out with stages and realizing that some things don't work or whatnot.

That's the one I'm talking about. There needs to be some direction or way to "tutor" the player, because as it is, it's too big and it feels like a chore to walk around sometimes. Especially when you fall and have to walk back up the mountain.

And I know it's not final, but there's a lot of seams showing and some the terrain is a bit awkward.

Also something should be done about Anton's attack animation, it stays in it while he is falling.

I remember when I first started the project and had an idea of a design document, the first thing would be to essentially complete the story of part 4 first then move onto the other additions such as new characters or plot points etc. Ideafags being ideafags they decide to add in as much new characters as possible and ended up derailing the entire project from it's original goal. I don't even think they made much progress on the demo unless I'm proven wrong somehow.

Here is the truth, Anons. At a point where we were in serious need of 3d modelers (god bless our current modelers), we toyed with the idea of opening a thread on 4/v/. A member of the team jumped the gun, and posted a thread before we had fully fleshed the idea out, even talking to Mark about it. What was said between them is beyond my knowledge.

The end result was a handful of posts, no takers or new members, a lot of confusion, a ban, but in the end everything was smoothed over and there's no bad blood between anyone.

This is all old news, however. Everything has been settled and we all moved on. Water under the bridge.

Nah i was using modified kaduki sprites from a old project I had. I was the scripting and back end guy in charge of combat which basically amounted to downloading a bunch of scripts and trying to make it all work together.

To be fair, some of designs look decent https://7su2.imgur.com/, though I personally don't like the Sukeban design at all, they could of referenced Sukeban Deka or any hairstyles that aren't as abrasive, and fuck them for trashing the ganguro one. As for noses, they seem to be more in line with the anime than the manga design for half of Part 4.

Banjo Kazooie was good, it was in Banjo Tooie that the weaknesses of the collect-a-thon genre began to leak through, (along with minor consistency problems, but they don't really matter.) And then after that, DK64 came out and completely killed the genre entirely, but anyway.

The problem with Tooie was that, unlike Mario 64 or Kazooie, the majority of the game was focused on backtracking to previous worlds to gather the one or two jiggy's you couldn't get on your first try. I'd wager a guess that, in any world of Tooie, you could only get 6/10 before needing to travel to another world. In Kazooie or Mario, if you entered a world, you had everything you needed to 100% that world, and once you did that, you moved on to the next world. That kind of mindset has kind of fallen out of fashion, even with modern -thons, so it's natural to want a game that goes back to it.

Not that Tooie wasn't good, or improved on certain aspects in its own way, it just wasn't as good as Kazooie.

Back on topic, I can't believe that people are still working on Anton and Coolpecker. I guess I shouldn't be, because I check the twitter every couple of months, but your dedication is admirable. Don't let people get you down, you've already come further than most.

In Banjo Kazooie the items served as a beacon for locations of interest or a challenge of platforming. In Tooie the levels became too big for the sake of showing off and back tracking was added to make it feel like an epic adventure. I completely agree. It didn't help that, on top of making the worlds bigger, they also lowered the amount of collectibles per world through things such as combining notes into groups of five. DK's problem was similar, where the worlds were similarly big, but on top of that, there was just too much stuff to collect. Each kong had 100 banana's spread across the map, along with blueprints, golden bananas crystal coconuts and other bullshit. It got tiring.

I really hope Anton and Coolpecker does the wise thing, with small levels that are just packed with interesting things around every corner. Considering the small team, I feel like anything more would be unrealistic.

I'd say that aside for that, Banjo had two major flaws that made me not enjoy it:

One, the speed of the characters was fucking painful. Mario 64 gave you so many ways to go fast, and Spyro at least gave you one. Can't really do that with Banjo.

Two, level variety. I didn't think the settings were that interesting. It's really an issue for most platformers in general, with the only one I could cite as having interesting level settings being Spyro.
