The worst thing about nu-Jojo-fans is that none of them feel like discussing about the story arcs or the current plot, they just make tumblr drawings of their OC Stands like the precious little snowflakes that they are, also you're absolutely correct, half of them don't even read the mangoo so they just know about as much detail as the anime gives them.
Speaking of, is it just me or is Jojolion the absolute worst part this far? Barring the very beginning - when the whole "mystery + financial thriller" part of the story had the spotlight and Josefumi acted like an overtly autistic and analytical bastard - there's not been a single decent chapter (probably Joshuu having a one-off adventure was decent though).
It really feels like Araki has lost his spark, no one dies anymore (so you know the stakes are as low as they can get), the tension is diminished by not having any single overarching villain (at least you could argue that DIO just made more Stand users while the Joestar group was reaching Egypt), there's a wiki-dump at least once per chapter, the story never progresses further but just adds more unrelated shit that will get resolved by itself anyhow, fucking soap opera tier plot twists ("I'M PREGNANT AND I HAVE A STAND TOO BY THE WAY"), none of the interesting characters have their backstory explored further than a single, small part of a chapter (Yasuho and her strained relationship with both her mother and her small group of friends, Joshuu's insecurities, the lives of the member of the Higashikata extended family), Joubin being a sneaky bastard was meant to be this great twist that the Josuke group was not meant to figure out and then fucking DOGGY-STYLE plant appraiser just goes and tells him "oh by the way that guy is fishy"... It's not even bizarre anymore.

At the very least the voice actors were really competent and had really great interactions.

GT has better battle variety and more interesting gimmicks to them generally.
And both of them have worthless arcs(GT has super 17, Super has the movie recaps).
Could it be that people had a more adverse effect to GT due to how close it was to Z?
How many people rewatched GT since back then eh? Could it be that bootleg dragon ball or bootleg Z feels better the less Z you've had recently?

I didn't feel like marathoning the whole of gt but i did manage to get to the part where Vegeta gets possessed;
it doesn't seem to have that type of edge, the only edge is the building-up of Baby, and his edge seems to fade more and more the more he appears.

Problem with Super is that…it's hard to have any high stakes in it considering it took place before the 10 year time skip at the end of Z. Tournament of Power? Yeah, we know everything's going to be all right because the end of DBZ shows that everyone's fine and dandy.

Friendly reminder that the DUB of GT is what most people have a problem with and it's more of an issue of the Tone of DBZ in the west comparatively.
Issues with plot aside, GT just doesn't work as serious, and it's more of how Dragonball as a series is way more lighthearted overseas.
