PSP2i > PS4 > PS2 > PSO Ep I & II > PSO2 > PS Zero > PS1 > PS3 > PSP > PSU/AotI > PS Nova > PS character adventures > PS Gaiden > PS Adventure
PS2 can be moved further down the list, but I put it that high for plot and character reasons - though that relies on how much you want to dig into the supplementary material. PSO and PSO2 can swap places depending on your preference in combat. PSO can feel clunky these days, but I prefer it's methodical timed combo combat over PSO2's spammy nature.
Also, PS3 has potential to be one of the better titles - and really needs a remake - but it's pretty flawed as it is.

It's a great game but sometimes it just feels like it's just 4 people playing single player on the same map, even when playing with IRL friends.
Most people don't really want to "co-op" or level slightly evenly and it all just ends up in a situation where 1 person on the room simply wiping entire rooms by themselves and your just along for the item grabbing ride.

Server was probably Ephinea or Ultima. They're the two most popular community servers nowadays.
For anyone looking to get into PSO1, the two servers I mentioned are both very active. Ephinea offers a more accurate vanilla experience with some safe balanced new additions to spice it up and a sandbox mode, while Ultima kinda says "fuck it" and has an EXP multiplier along with custom event weapons and reincorporating some stuff that was never included in the final product. There's some new rising server called "Destiny" too that's supposed to be Ultima but better.
I personally play on Ultima and everything but the community is great. Most of the high-level players just spend time circle-jerking each other in chat.

pso v2 (for both dreamcast and pc) has its own perks over ep1&2 and psobb even though it is episode 1 only. monsters in v2 are stronger than later versions making ultimate mode especially punishing. It also has graphical quirks not present in later versions like ghostly faces flying in the air during the dark falz fight. The equipment selection is more limited, combined with the strong enemies v2 is a version of PSO that still remains relevant for its unique challenge.
56016a No.15513792
>>15513599
The problem with v2 over Ep I & II is that v2 was designed specifically with the assumption that pretty much every player had a full suite of power rares due to rampant duping. So going into v2, pretty much all v1 weapons were completely worthless and you had to scrape by with pathetic damage (if you could even hit) until you found your first Red Saber or something. Ep I & II was a complete rebalance since both episodes were starting from the same fresh start, and you had the entire second episode to cram into the same lvl 80~200 growth window. So Ep I got nerfed hard to make exp scaling between it and Ep II much more fluid.

Create an Episode 1 room with 'Normal' difficulty and 'Normal' rules.
Once you're in the city, look for the teleporter up to the "Principal"; it's on the bridge between the shops / bank and the area you start in.
Walk to the end, and start a Main Story quest (1-1 in this case) by talking to the receptionist; your room is now 'locked' into the quest, and people in the lobby can see the quest details before joining.
You can now go back to the main teleporter and git tae fightin'. Do the objective, and you should be teleported back to the city at the end.
To finish the quest, talk to the "Principal", then the receptionist; you'll automatically leave the room and return to the lobby. Most of the Main Quests have no rewards at the end, so don't feel pressured to do most of them.
Next, set up a similar Episode 1 room with 'One Person' rules; this is basically 'Offline Mode' from the console versions, and most of the game's side-quests will only show up in this mode.
As soon as you're in the city, go to the desk on your left, and look for "Battle Training" in the list; it's basically a tutorial level where your overpowered companion one-shots everything.
I think Ephinea has every quest open from the start, so if you want to play things in chronological order, look for an old Hunter's Guild guide on GameFAQs or something.
You should probably stick to quests in the Forest areas until Level 10, after which you can move onto the Caves, and / or make a start on Episode 2's story content. Likewise, at level 20, you'll stand a chance of surviving Episode 4 stuff.
Ignore the 'Hard' difficulty option until you can solo the final boss of Episode 1 on 'Normal' (probably around Lv.35).
Basically, you'll want master all of the 'Normal' areas before you can survive an Episode on 'Hard' difficulty, then do the same for 'Very Hard' and 'Ultimate'.
Despite all that, it's worth making an 'Ultimate' room and seeing some of the crazy shit at least once; just don't expect to survive it unless you're approaching Lv.100.

you can go from level 1 to 100 within 3 hours with their exp boosts and unbalanced custom quests. they made custom equipment with superior stats to vanilla pso rares and locked them behind a "donation points" cash shop. yeah people can trade photon drops for donation points to get these items but these items make ultimate a cake walk. they also made "insane" difficulty where almost all items that are not these cash shop items become useless. the entire ingame economy revolves around collecting photon drops to shop with while people are generally uninterested in most other rare drops. they also removed the max stat caps on characters so that these new items could fully inflate character stats while largely eliminating class uniqueness.

That's common with games from that era and was mostly a result of space saving measures done by choosing either hiragana or katakana. Dragon Quest III (also using a 4Mb cartridge) did similar thing too, just used hiragana instead. Hell, one of the big reasons why IBM PC platform had a very delayed start in Japanese market was because proprietary domestic machines at one point started including custom ROM chips with kanji font on their motherboards. The success of NEC's PC98 platform is the best proof of this since it was probably the closest to being IBM PC-compatible.

It depends which server / client you use for Blue Burst, but you'll probably find the full Main and Side-Quest lists unlocked immediately.
Fan-server admins usually hated the classic requirement on SEGA's old official servers, so they often override it. There is no "Insane" difficulty. Ultimate mode has buffed monsters, where their EVP is buffed to the point you NEED hit% weapons in order to hit them. Which makes using special attacks even that much more difficult to land. Think of it as a way to actually gearing up your character. You need a huge set of weapons to be viable, and must equip Red Ring and good Units in order to not miss 50% of the time. I had fun.
Also it doesn't take 3 hours 1-100. Alone it would take you probably 20-30 hours if you know what is efficient (ttf/CCA quest etc). I could power level you to 100 though in like 5-7 hours I bet, if x5 EXP is on. 100-140 is also a breeze, maybe 4 hours in CCA.

Also, all characters still have max capped stats. They just have boosted ATP DFP (etc) caps in order to compensate for the buffed monsters in Ultima's Ultimade mode. For example if I remember HUCast has like 1700 ATP cap (300 or so more than original version).
What's worse is the Excalibur has a boost item turning it into a stronger weapon, where only squishies with MST can use the special, which has the highest ATP of any weapon. FO's (or HUmar/RAmar) have the highest single hit damage in game.
92e7d2 No.15540727
my point is ultima is designed as a shekel grab
the exp multiplyers rush players to levels where donation ticket equipment is necessary and vanilla equips without DT modification rapidly lose value especially within the modded difficulty. it becomes difficult as a free player to obtain valuables worth trading for PDs to gain DTs other than farming PDs yourself. This game balance is designed to create a high incentive to donate. Ultima is the EA of pso servers. You can host a psobb server for 50 players on a toaster, it really doesnt take much more power to host 500 players so ultima is really just pocketing those shekels.
