There was an overhaul mod called DEI for Rome II that I was interested in. I wouldn't fuck Rome II vanilla with a stolen dick. Even with a giant overhaul mod like DEI It's still such a piece of dogshit. The political system is terrible and the games engine was doomed from the start. Mount and Blade had the right idea. The only woman on the battlefield are farmers being raided, a woman starting a civil war over the throne being stolen from her and possibly the player character. Being a female made for an easier game by the middle to late game: Your renown (which increase your army size and made factions respect you) grew a lot faster (the lone female mercenary captain is going to get talked about more) and you weren't offered a fief when joining a faction (Unintentionally an advantage. This meant you had no fiefs and got first dibs on captured ones, including major cities. If you got one upon joining it was a shit condition village in the middle of nowhere and counted against future requests for fiefs.). This came at a cost of a miserable early game where your combat stats are shit, you have even less gear than a male character and everyone insults you to your face.

Between turns took 10 mins for the cpus to all take their turns. Navies were useless since Land Armies preformed better than naval units when deployed on water. Boiling Oil made it so you could afk any defense and win. Rome would usually get eliminated before turn 30 since the way auto-resolves worked for AI. AI would only use 1 seige unit even though they deployed many. AI would destroy their cities buildings to build public order buildings every other turn, so they'd never build advanced military units. Public order was unmanageable at launch so your territories would rebel every turn and the AI would never attack with the rebels, so they'd die from attrition.

This and a million other problems. Game was still broken and they released DLC for blood and gore weeks after launch.

Civilized cultures like Rome, Greece, and Carthage don't even have female generals. There women act only as wives, mothers and matrons.

But women in uncivilized cultures like the Celts or Scythians can have their noblewomen made into generals just like the men. But it's actually a downgrade compared to the better protected women of the civilized cultures, since in order to get the better upgrades of rank they actually have to perform well in battle on top of hitting the normal age restriction points (it's kind of complicated to explain the mechanic quickly).

Point is, there playable cultures that can now have female generals all tend to be both more primitive, and cultures that actually did have some history of female leadership - The Iceni and British Celts and Boudicca, or the Scythian/Massagetae and Tomyris.
