Can somebody tell me what the purpose of Iron Rain is?
I've been watching the gameplay footage that IGN put up and I am just honestly baffled. EDF 5 has released in Japan and is coming west and just seems better in every way. Iron Rain only seems to have like 10 ants on screen at the maximum at any time and just not as much fun to shoot or move around. Anyone who is interested in this series will just get EDF 5 and this game has the same series gameplay loops IE killing enemies for armor and weapon pickups so it will definitely not get the cowadooty crowd. Why release 2 games fairly close to each other? Why compete with yourself? What is the goal here? I feel like I'm missing something.

Actually no, I really am fucking pissed off that they're trying to incorporate a shitty xcom rebel faction into god damn EDF of all things. EDF Isn't about this bullshit and by putting them in the game you're basically letting the player know that the alien forces have a slim chance of winning if at all and the real villains are going to be other humans. Fuck that hollywood bullshit. What god damn trash. They've missed the entire point of EDF in its entirety, EDF was never about a cookie cutter hollywood 'Too deep for you' plotline and never god damn should be.

The gameplay looked garbage as well. This seems to draw some parallels to monster hunter world in that it's shittier than the base game but with all the complexity of a call of duty shooter. It's actually better for me as a Wing Diver main because you basically never see the front of your character unless you are dead, but that booty is always front and center.

The mission packs are worth to get if you want extra challenge and missions that will rape the living shit out of you. there is a total of 21-23 missions on each pack. I say those are better in general than the missions packs of EDF5 which felt a bit lackluster in comparison (only 15 missions per pack, no new voicelines)
Dont bother with the cosmetic dlc stuff, they're just low-level weapons which wont help you past the first 2-3 hours. The sole exception are the Pure Decoy Launchers which can be actually helpful, as they can have a purpose to destabilize the enemies even on Inferno difficulty

It's like Insect Armageddon, make a Westernised spin-off, try out a bunch of new ideas, hope it gets the gaijin to throw money at the series, bring any ideas that work into the main series and jettison the rest as non-canon. So wait for reviews and streams when it comes out, see how it turns out

If anything, it might be a way to test out ideas like the countdown at the end of the missions to run and collect loot, and maybe some new class ideas. That or additional enemy types and different loot systems although I really like how EDF 5 has done it.
