Let’s share some underrated and obscure 7th gen games.

I always thought that game was beautiful. There was something so genuine about it. Looking at screenshots it doesn’t look like the visuals aged to bad, I’ll have to pop it in and see if the gameplay has aged well. If nothing else the OST will still be great.

I feel as those most Dungeon RPGs/crawlers that comes out these days don't take enough risks with their designs and mechanics. Unchained Blades was pretty damn good though. I should finish it someday.

As for other systems…

DS's best titles, even Nippon only, are fairly well documented. All that's really "hidden" is Go Go Cosmo Cops, which is a fun platformer that makes good use of the DS's unique features. Wouldn't recomend playing it on an emulator or 3DS though as it makes heavy use of swipeing motions and plays like shit. People may overlook Over the Nexus because it's literally a Yu-Gi-Oh simulator, but it's the last good one and has a fun single player mode. Previous Yu-Gi-Oh games on the DS are basicly the same but worse executed and fewer cards.

647d3d  No.15457230

>>15457213

*plays like shit on those.

I have to say Over the Nexus is impressive because it used a filler arc and its characters for the PC's backstory, which allows them to have an actual purpose and motivation in a plot that still has to run around the anime's main characters and events.

Imageepoch rarely caught a break when it came to the west, when we even got their games to begin begin with (though even in Japan, they had some cases of making straight up shit without it simply being localization issues). In this case, Ignition picked up Arc Rise Fantasia, somehow cleared it for release with an English dub that would be more at home with PS1 era dubbing than seventh gen, and no dual audio, effectively killing the game's chances here on their own. There is an undub patched ISO around these days, but I don't think it's done much to rectify the game's stigma of having one of the worst semi-modern dubovers. Especially considering how piracy, emulation, and loading are a bit of a grey area for the general masses (and you'd need the former and either of the latter to make use of the undub). Obviously not a big problem for anons, but still.

It's one of the most popular Vita titles, though I suppose as a system the Vita's not real popular anyhow, so maybe that in itself counts. I know it's on the Wii as well, but that's both a basic version and has a worse translation.

An often overlooked detail is that I really enjoy how they did the inventory in this compared to both the previous and latter titles. It's a bit annoying how you can't use items while moving in the previous titles and in the later ones they completely destroyed it by giving you a pause menu inventory where you can drink potions without even animations.

Being able to hotkey consumables is a bit casualized and the combat is a step down from Gothic 2 but a step up from Gothic 3. The world building and attention to detail was great just as in Gothic 2. Taking the manual aiming with magic and spells from 3 was a nice addition.

It got really boring and uncreative towards the end and shields were so overpowered that they should have not been included and instead had the good old backstep from Gothic 1 and 2 where if you wielded a 1H it was faster with more iframes and slower with less while wielding a 2H.

Still a good game (and the Wii version was the original, not a port), but without access to Genroku Legends DLC, which was actually worthwhile stuff, and a worse translation thanks to Ignition (who are pretty hit or miss with what they do, though seem more accidental than willfully destructive). Vita version is the definitive one, though unfortunately Aksys no longer seems to mark down the DLC seperate from the game anymore (though Vitas can be CFWed and thus piratable).

>>15464536

Far as I've heard the PS3 extended port is better, but if you already got the 360 version, I suppose you might not want to drop money on it again (though where I live I've seen seeing it for $10 or so in bargain bins).

If you've got a CFW PS3, you could always pirate it too, but again, physical copies aren't worth too much these days. PSN used to also have a free Eternal Sonata theme that has since been removed for reasons I am not sure of, and unfortunately its pkg and rap files don't seem as if anyone's ripped it and uploaded it elsewhere at this point (themes being lower priority than games/DLC; I still can't find ones that were locked to overpriced CEs), and I'm not sure the one on PS3-themes is official (it could well be fanmade), but it's been quite a while since I saw what the official looked like.

It's not necesarily better, they nerfed a ton of characters (all of them female) in favour of a couple males who are now 100% required to be in your party, unless you like dealing shit damage that is, they also let you enter the bonus dungeon way earlier and you can recruit new charactes in there, notably the qt guard who dies in the beginning.

Above is what I used with my slim, as it was the most recent exploit at the time. It also looks like there has since been something for the later slims and superslims, but I'm not sure if it includes as much/as easy functionality:

http://wololo.net/2018/03/14/ps3xploit-3-0-han-released-compatible-ps3s-firmwares-4-81-4-82/

At the very least though, if you're considering getting CFW on it, run minverchk as the first link suggests as a base just to see where your model stands, as far as factory firmware went.

7ad730  No.15467683

>>15467644

Thanks, I might try that, it will give a second life to my PS3. Worst that can happen is that it bricks. I'll do the minverchk since my 2501A is at risk but I think I'm in the clear. It sucks because I had a launch version one before niggers broke into my home and stole anything not bolted down, even my pajama pants. They left the valuable rare games alone and stole my sister's NHL and FIFA games though.

6de594  No.15467709

>>15467683

Minverchk is safe to use; running it just spits back a message of the PS3's status. I think I recall hearing it was a leaked official tool or something, which might explain why. Though, I'd recommend being logged out of the PSN before messing around. Also, if you do wind up going the webkit route, the most reliable way to get the hack to take was to reduce the amount of steps from browser start to initiating the exploit, so basically bookmark the end step and jump to it from a blank homepage. At least, that's what I did, since otherwise it would keep having issues.

>They left the valuable rare games alone and stole my sister's NHL and FIFA games though.

Guessing they were just run of the mill nignogs and not nigaboos.

>valuable rare

Out of curiosity, what do you have that you consider as such? I mean, yeah, there's some that didn't sell too well, and others that outright got shortprinted, but at the same time, there's generally not much demand, at least of now, for even the harder to find ones to go for much, compared to the PS2 library, for instance. Yakuza 3 and 4 come to mind though, given how the series keeps increasing in awareness here, and costs on both have shot up over the last few years.

6de594  No.15467717

>>15467709

I guess the point I'm trying to say with the latter is that it's kind of hard to actually say at this point what counts as rare on the PS3 compared to prior generations, especially since a good bit of the library is also digital for those that don't mind not owning what they buy.

Strangely enough, Spyro Dawn of the Dragon is one of the rarest games on the ps3 and you’d be lucky to find it for its release price.

I will say, it is sort of a fun game, though it’s bizarre that they took Spyro and made it a GoW clone.

6de594  No.15467942

>>15467912

Last Spyro game I had any interest in was Hero's Tail, which didn't compare to the original trilogy, but was alright for what it was. Also solid music despite no Copeland. Also not real big on the whole notion of trying to reboot it into some "epic" or whatever they were going for.

Should also mention another factor there, in that while multiplats were obvious a thing in generations prior, seventh gen felt hit especially hard with it, particularly with the PS3 and 360, and in a number of cases, games that are somewhat more expensive/harder to find on one platform can be a lot easier/cheaper on another. El Shaddai for example, I don't see much of for the PS3, while there's plenty of 360 copies around, perhaps due to low demand amongst their base. But even then it's not particularly expensive, maybe $15 on the PS3 where I live, should a copy show up. And with Spyro there, it seems pretty cheap on the Wii in comparison, though there is the difference of 480 to 720/1080 resolution.

ab37f6  No.15467970

>>15467942

I think it mostly boils down to if it got a digital release, how mang copies of the game were produced, and if the game was actually considered good. In terms of price neither the 360 or PS3 really has that many rare AND expensive games with the Spyro game being a bit of an oddity in both cases, and like you mentioned, the Wii version is relatively normal in price. I actually think the Wii has more cases of those kind of games than either the ps3 or 360. Hell, the reprint of the Metroid Prime Trilogy with the plastic case goes for 40+ dollars. The metal case going for 60+.

6de594  No.15467989

>>15467970

Well, Metroid Prime Trilogy at least got a reprint, even if it was belated and Fucking Gamestop sold them as preowned to reap more shekels. And yeah, the Wii seems more prone to hard to find games actually being pricy. Whether it's just "Nintendo tax", I'm not sure. And it is certainly a factor of if a game has both digital and physical, or just physical. Kind of surprised that companies didn't go back part way through seventh gen and try to get what previously physical only games they'd published up there (Nier for example remains disc only), but maybe they'd have to republish them since a digital option wasn't a goal from the outset, or something.

Only really rare and expensive PS3 games that come to mind are Afrika and the intentionally limited print Class of Heroes 2G. And I suppose that Spyro game can be added to the list. But most others I know of to be kind of hard to find still don't top $20 or so, maybe because PS3 still being stocked by the likes of Fucking Gamestop.

Class of Heroes 2G was another oddity. It was mostly localized on passion alone. Thankfully I still got my copy new when it was a reasonable price as it’s a charming little dungeon crawler and the morality system is neat. Shame 3’s fan translation is dead in the water, there was never any chance of the side games getting localized, and the IP is dead in Japan.

Granted, I don't know how much faith to put in (((wikipedia))), having seen them make outright false statements like a series I like having a (nonexistent) PS3 HD collection, but apparently there was some listed article from 2015 that 3 was being brought over. I can't find an English ISO on CDR either though, and I'm guessing it didn't pan out after all.

Supposedly we were gonna get the PS3 version in the spring of this year, but my guess is it was quietly put down. They actually had the game fully translated and tested from the sounds of it, but for whatever reason I guess they reasoned a digital release would cost more than they’d make back.

6de594  No.15468058

>>15468041

Yeah, I suppose it's not a real popular series here, but if one's put that much work and cost into it, and aren't planning on the added expenditure of a physical, I'd think it would make more sense to still want to recoup costs somewhat by at least releasing the game. Unless Sony's declared no more PS3 releases past Persona 5 or whatever the "swan song" of the system was considered.

Could be, Soyny has been trying to micromanage what comes out on their consoles recently, and I suppose there isn’t much of a reason to release the psp version for the vita considering that console is all but dead and I don’t think they are really supporting it either. It’s a shame, but considering how the series never took off here or Japan I can’t really be to surprised or disappointed in the choice not to officially bring it out.

Though back then it was more telling Agetec to shit can STA because "muh graphics" and "muh no audience in the west" and "PS1-to-PSP ports need 10% added/changed to come overseas) than SJWism like with Omega Labyrinth Z, or that they only wanted to push the newer system at this point.

I've seen three copies around lately, and at the same store no less: a cart only copy for $75, and two sealed ones with the soundtracks for $170 each, with complete copies online being somewhere in between. No DS game should be that fucking high, especially as just a cartridge. Fucking furfags with too much money and not enough common sense. I have to wonder how many people (or just furries?) are kicking themselves in hindsight for not having gotten it for $15 new at Gamestop a number of years back when aside from that when they were trying to clear out all their unsold "new" (read: gutted) DS games.

>I have is still in the wraps simply because I haven’t gotten to it yet.

I used to be like that until dad advised me that leaving shit in a wrapper on a shelf can cause the covering on the front of the case to warp. Though, it's not like I had much of anything that was rare like that, namely just cheap reprints.

Yeah, but most places aren't going to feel like reducing the potential profit to be made, so instead they'll just rot in a display case unbought. Ultimately though, I suppose there's also some blame on the previous owner though for not having played or opened them in the first place enabling such. Though Solatorobo itself is still a pricy bastard even without being sealed. But in a funny way, I at least see copies of it around (though as you've said, that might just be because no one wants to drop $170 on a sealed DS game).

>>15470150

Well, if it helps, where I am these days, .hack//G.U. is only like $25-30 for each volume now due to Last Recode, but obviously that's the open price (and is better than the previous $50/$50/$70+ the volumes went for respectively). IMOQ is still super expensive. I'd say that maybe the best bet might be to open them to reduce chances of scalper faggotry, and see if you can find some anon that would actually play and appreciate them and not just horde or resell them. Donation, at least where I live, wouldn't work too well; either there plenty of patrolling resellers looking for fodder, or places like Goodwill ship anything actually worthwhile elsewhere to sell at full price (I know they opened an electronics and media focused store on the east coast some years back), or people just default to using them as a dumping ground for what they can't get a worthwhile amount of money for elsewhere (sports and licensed shit mainly).

Again though, it's your call for what to do with it. I'm just not sure there's any good way to deal with "too valuable for most to open" sorts of things, short of actually knowing someone in real life that would actually play it

I assume you already know to look it up under the Japanese name then. Though, fair warning, depending on where you look for ISOs, chances are high that they might only have the western releases, being that PS3 games can get pretty big on western sites, those are the versions with the demand due to increased playability. Games we didn't get here, or of which have patches requiring the JP version, being obvious exceptions.

Does Japan even have a noticeable piracy base on their side of the net, so to speak? I know for older stuff, they've at least got a more manageable aftermarket of stuff coming and going, compared to stuff getting to be wallet-rape tier here, especially for what doesn't gets so much as an official rerelease (and thus providing further reason to pirate), but are ripped and uploaded games more of a western thing?

And yeah, pirating Japanese games can be a huge pain in the ass, especially if they have western releases because most rips are done by importers. Really strikes me that there needs to be a more concise site for seventh gen game files. I mean, NB's useful but limited, PS3DLv3 is similar but to a lesser degree, and the other place I know of, some blogspot site, has some stuff the other two don't but the execution of the site is absolute horseshit to try to use. Way too many ads and forced redirects, but occasionally it gets the job done. But somewhere with just frequently updated mega links or whatever, game files from various regions instead of just "one fits all", and ability to comment on if an upload works/link needs to be fixed, etc, would be nice.

And report back as to if the skits use actual text boxes; the "hint" system the western release had in it's place was portraits and audio only, with no text, which makes me curious about the skits themselves, and if they'd be feasible for someone to fan-translate one day.

>One way or another it's one of the prettier 2D games I played. Looks real good in motion and runs smooth as fuck.

Namco's Tales team, or one of them (not sure what the case is anymore), can really do a good job with spriting and animation as the years have gone on. Shame that both the era of 2D for the series is pretty much over, and that we've got so few of the 2D ones in English, likely because Bamco thinks 2D won't sell here compared to 3D models and combat.

Not entirely sure but I think it's the same, no text. Only portraits and audio.

That's Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X, an apparently fantastic remake of first Narikiri Dungeon Tales spin off, which debuted originally on the Game Boy Color. The two main characters have a costume-based class system. It had a fan-translation in the works, which was first put on the backburner in favor of Destiny DC, and then outright cancelled (along with Destiny DC and Tales of Phantasia X).

>>15472750

I see, I guess if anyone was to reimplement them, they'd have to hack the boxes in, or at least do some sort of overlay. Might in part explain why they were cut, as Symphonia was the first game we got with skits intact (and which had text boxes for them). It's funny though. Having played Phantasia PS1, that one came before Eternia, yet it had text boxes for the skits, which leaves me wondering why Eternia's JP version wouldn't. Or maybe the Phantasia fan-translation hacked them in? I'm honestly not sure.

I don't think it was about wanting to be good goys (though they did state that it Bamco wanted their stuff, they could have it, or something). According to an anon that followed the progress-streams, some of the team, especially Thoroughim there, were tired of the whole thing, and wanted out of the scene. But instead of simply saying as such, and maybe handing their tools at least off to someone else to pick it up, they came up with that shit as a justification, and trashed both what they'd done and what effort had been made, as a way of shifting blame from themselves to us as the end users for wanting those games in English. And that was after they'd roped in other people, like Kajitani and Kingcom (the latter who put his own work with DQM 1+2 PS1 on hold for it), meaning they crashed everyone's time and effort with no survivors. I have more respect for PP's Cless than Thoroughim, because he at least was honest about why he was quitting, as well as actually saying why his Phantasia PS1 translation took twelve fucking years (and which he actually put out there). Funniest thing though: Thoroughim had stated before in taking on Destiny that he didn't just want to be known as that guy that translated Phantasia over and over (in that he'd already picked up ToPX and NDX as well), on the off chance he got hit by a bus or something. Guess what game he's going to be best known for completing a patch on? Oh wait, Cless' patch is considered better anyhow.

>Would you mind telling me where to find everything that was saved, so at least I can feel like I'm spiting those faggots in a way?

Well, they had finished Tales of Phantasia PS1, Tales of Innocence DS, and Tales of the Tempest, but the latter was an April Fool's Joke, the joke being that it was the one entry no one really fucking wanted due to being considered bad (so bad that it actually prompted the dividing of the series into mothership and escort title status) but got an entire patch for. Anyhow, you can still find the individual patches on RHDN even though A0t nuked everything. Apparently they don't have that much sway to get it removed, or haven't asked at least (RHDN having a policy of respecting the wishes of patch creators, hence some being not hosted on the site not simply due to size, but because the creator wants his own download counter to go up). Or you can probably still find prepatched files floating around.

I think it's just done out of respect for the decision to finally bring it over, but again, waiting until seeing the state of how the new content is would be a better move in the long run, so we don't get another Hearts situation (DS translation cancelled due to the Vita remake being cleared to be brought over, only for the translator to be horrified at how horrifically 8-4 botched it).

>and in ten or 15 years 8th gen will probably be considered the ugliest gen because of it

Maybe, if whatever design trend is present then isn't even worse.

>Let me guess, nobody else is willing to do a translation for that PSP game out of (((respect))) for those guys, am I on the money?

Nothing to do with that; there's no hard rule that someone can't pick up the same game as another, but in most cases doing so while one effort is active would be a waste of time on someone's part, depending on who finishes first and thus fills the demand. Just that pretty much every Tales focused group is now dead. PP's Cless wanted to enjoy life he felt he missed out on after muddling through a decade of depression (understandable), Rebirth team's been dead silent for five years (confusing), Vesperia Team accomplished their goal, and A0t called it quits in a horrifically enraging fashion (they also trashed their forum, which some of those other teams had borrowed to communicate with fans through). And while not Tales focused, DeJap, who handled Phantasia SFC, are long dead (and I wouldn't want them working on the series anyhow after their pre-modern memeworthy liberty taking). Only one left notably invested is Kajitani, but I can understand if he's been feeling burned from both having cancelled Hearts in favor of HeartsR (and how that turned out) and having whatever he had done for A0t being a wasted effort. These days he'd rather analyze how Bamco's handled recent games, as well as shitpost. He might be planning a non-beta release of RM2 given he's posted some screenshots, but that's assuming he's not just tinkering with the game for his own amusement. Also unknown whether Kingcom was allowed to keep the tools he'd made for both Destiny DC and ToPX/NDX, or if they had to be trashed too; his site's been dormant for a while, though I have seen a twatter post that he's still working at DQM despite that.

Tales also has the issue in that while there's certainly a fanbase here, and more-so than in the past as of seventh gen, there's apparently not been the devotion to fan translate them (into English, I mean) outside the above groups, and there hasn't been enough of an autistic drive amongst imageboard moonspeakers to push some through, ala Nep Rebirth (though in that case, the drive was removing Doerr).

>Yeah they're retarded.

Here's the thing: Tempest has a number of things wrong with it, one of which being that for what was meant as a main series Tales game, it's pretty short. That also means the script was rather short in comparison to other mainline Tales. Thus, A0t had said they actually hadn't had to put too much time into it, and apparently it had made good practice. In effect, it's still a rather poor game, but has a good English script. Still kind of a waste of time though, being a game no one wanted in English due to moonruner opinion (admittedly should not be an absolute; SFC game Treasure of the Rudras had it's translation delayed for years and years due to importers calling it shit and a potential waste of time translating, yet it's now one of the more popular SFC fan translations with the west) and by their own admittance one of the worst games Tales has to offer, and of which the interest base would be those few wanting to see the series at its lowest.

Of course! N64 emulation was so shit and Dolphin so good that emulating virtual console releases for N64 was actually the best option for some titles for years. So it's a "cinematic" QTE based game but I really fucking love Asura's Wrath

Unlike most other titles of that nature, it actually leverages it's focus on cutscenes to do shit that wouldn't work in gameplay formats and knows how to has fun with it and be constantly entertaining rather then being artsy. Playing it was like I was a kid watching DBZ for the first time again with how insane it gets. Also has some of the best animation of any game to date, a fantastic soundtrack, etc.

Sadly capcom were being jews and made the actual ending DLC, which is bullshit, but it's also the hypest ending for anything i've ever seen, like the Wonderful 101's but twice as over the top.

If you can roll with the fact it's trying to be an interactive anime rather then a mechanically solid gameplay ecpierence and you love over the tope hype bullshit then I can't reccomend it enough. Try to get the 360 version since it has less screen tearing
