I like the genre. Terror from the Deep, JA2, Silent Storm, Invisible Inc, Frozen Synpase(I guess), Steamworld Heist, I'm a pretty big fan and am looking for more. What could I play? Are the Firaxis XCOM games worth playing, with or without mods and even if it's for an single playthrough? Is there some console TBT I missed? What mods for Openxcom(Besides Xpiratez) are worth playing? OPENAPOC/PHOENIX POINT/TERRA INVICTA FUCKING WHEN

Have you played Hammer and Sickle? It's in the same engine as the Silent Storm games and set during the cold war but the scenarios are really badly designed. First non-tutorial mission embedded.

Your turn is taking too long, anons.
If I had to choose one of the firaxis games, Enemy Within or War of the Chosen?
How's performance on either?

Seems like youre sticking exclusively to western Tactical Turn Based games. But I would recommend
Operation Darkness (xbox 360)
OG Valkyrie Chronicles (PS3/PC)
and
Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter (PS2)
if you want to try some good japanese TBT games. I'm sure people would recommend Fire Emblem, or Final Fantasy Tactics but I didn't really enjoy those as much as others might.

not quite the same, but I'd recommend trying out Battlestar Galactica Deadlock. Simultaneous turn based with fleets
The strategic overview is a bit on the weak side and the game isn't all that difficult, but it's got fleet combat down

Never played Invisible Inc but it's decent in the beginning and gets completely broken in the late game when you get good gear, and several disguises per map. I think the levels are unique for every map location and there is a lot of locations.

Not sure mate, only ever played LW (havent looked at any for WotC yet), but EW does just seem to have LW add-ons and a few armour types
WotC is still a really great game but I prefer EW's atmosphere/enemy designs and second wave options

Frozen Synapse 2 is out, but I suffer every day from crippling racism, and I noticed a prominent black face on the picture of the game for Steam (worse, it's across a picture of a white woman's face).
How likely is this game to trigger my racism?

Lol i bought it and it actually has kind of an x-com apocalypse feel. There's a city you have to protect from terrorist incursions and it's all about securing funding from the various factions.
I am very racist and haven't really noticed anything pozzed but i haven't been watching closely. Most faction contacts are white or else sillouhettes. Like 2 Asians iirc, one as the head of the university faction and then a negress runs the local religious cult.

Frozen Synapse was fucking garbage. Tactical games lose all meaning when the gameplay is about dealing with enemies spawning in random locations without prior warning. That's one of the two fatal flaws a tactical game can have. The other one is having huge RNG swings with no ways to prevent, mitigate or recover from them. The best example of this is Fire Emblem. For those who don't know, Fire Emblem features a weapon triangle system where each weapon type is strong vs one weapon and weak against the other one. FE also features a perma death system. You can have a heavily armored unit face off against a weaker unit, in a matchup where your heavy unit wins the weapon triangle, and have your heavy unit get 1 shot by a crit. If that happens, you either need to restart the mission or complete the game without that heavy unit, since it's fucking dead. All your careful planning and preparations don't mean shit because you can get 1 shot without warning.

>none of the fixes suggested do shit
I guess it was for the better anyways. Despite enjoying it I feel like it's too focused on being flashy and well animated(ish) than being an actually good TBT. I mean shit, no ballistics, no clear line of sight rules or cover not extending past crouching behind it, what a load of bull.
When is Phoenix Point coming out? I remember looking at videos and somehow thinking the Firaxis games were pretty much the same with flashier graphics.
▶ e44c7b (1) No.15459982

Because the campaign is kinda shit. You play randomly generated levels that get old fast between the 8 or so that aren't, and the ones that aren't usually boil down to "complete X objective and don't mind the fact that the enemy has an endless supply of dudes who other than having bad AI are roughly equal to yours in strength"
Multiplayer is fun, but unless you've got a friend who owns it, good luck finding someone to play against.
