The US version was changed to be damn-near impossibly hard, as was the common practice of the time to discourage game rentals. The Japanese version, called "Mad City," is a lot more reasonable.

I never understood the goal and I would just blast everything in my way, regardless of whether they were cars, homes or proper enemies.
Also, couldn't get past the 2nd, I think, level (was it flying over the sea?)
