4K isn't even there yet in terms of performance, and this might be limited to only 30hz. Too early I say

http://archive.is/MrMPy

>Samsung is jumping into the 8K TV game and has announced their new Q900R QLED TVs will available late September 2018 in 65-inch, 75-inch, 82-inch and 85-inch versions.

>Thanks to 8K AI upscaling, if you feed these TVs quality 4K or even 1080p content, you will get a much sharper picture right away, all the time.

>One of the input ports will be HDMI 2.1 too!

>According to some reports, it seems to only be a variant capable of 8K at 30hz, so definitely not the full 48 gbps. I expect raw bandwidth is probably at most 20 gbps or even the HDMI 2.0a’s current 18 gbps, for hardware compatibility, but with DSC 3X compression which could allow native 4:4:4, 4K 120hz in HDR10+, at least. 8K30 being the same number of pixels per second as 4K120, 120hz is a distinct possibility.

>No news about other HDMI 2.1 features like variable refresh rates (VRR) aka Freesync 2, but input lag is reported at a low 15ms which is very low for a TV set! This is probably fine for all but the most competitive (((pro gamers))).

All I give a shit about is what a Wii game will look like upscaled from 480 to 8K using their AI gimmick.

>According to a roadmap published by VESA in September 2016, a new version of DisplayPort was intended to be launched in "early 2017". It would have improved the link rate from 8.1 to 10.0 Gbit/s, a 24% increase.

>However, no new version was released in 2017, likely delayed to make further improvements after the HDMI Forum announced in January 2017 that their next standard (HDMI 2.1) would offer up to 48 Gbit/s of bandwidth. According to a press release on 3 January 2018, "VESA is also currently engaged with its members in the development of the next DisplayPort standard generation, with plans to increase the data rate enabled by DisplayPort by two-fold and beyond. VESA plans to publish this update within the next 18 months."

There are a number of dual-input 4k units, and even a few quad-input displays lite the IBM T220. If you have 20:20 vision, that means you can resolve one arcminute of detail. For a displays, the largest single screen that could legitimately be called a PC monitor (~30") at the closest comfortable viewing distance (~1.5') could certainly go up to 8k resolution without exceeding a 20:20 viewer's ability to distinguish individual pixels:

There isn't actually anything special about 60Hz, it (and the yuropoor equivalent, 50Hz) were chosen purely so they could use mains electricity. Likewise, the movie industry's 24Hz was chosen purely so that optical audio on either side of the film strip could carry reasonable quality sound. Back in the silent era, while cameras were handcranked, projectors were usually run as slow as possible while still producing convincing motion, 8-18Hz, coincidentally the same speed as the primary animation speed ("on the twos", or 12Hz) in anime and other cartoons.

Ffs we have had 3k-5k for 5-10 years now and still there is fuck Al content because at normal viewing distances a 20-50" 1080p screen is good enough.

Only real benifit to 4k 8k+ is vr which needs high pixel density.

Most modern games have temporal aa and soon ai driven aa which will make 1080p even more smooth.

4k is a meme unless your gaming playing fps with lots of mid-long range combat or simulators.

For everything else it's placebo.

As for media TV movies etc the (((hdr/4k))) brings better colour but that's about it and the average 4k hdr monitor and TV are just garbage with shit colour and brightness not real sets capable of displaying the crap they advertise with any more detail then a non 4k hdr older screen.

Lol they don't pay you shit, you get the privilege of paying for your hardware and they will use what they want.

You could always not agree with the eula and not use their services.

higher FPS > resolution, 1080p is fine

I get over 120 FPS on most games I play, its quite nice. My eyes acclimated so much to the higher frames that I didn't notice until I saw my little brother playing a game on his laptop getting 60 FPS and I thought it was 30-40 or lower; I asked him to check and he did, my eyes were just so used to it

Fucking this.

Reminder that in the movies, Skynet only started attacking humans because they tried to kill it by shutting it off after it became sapient, without it even doing anything in the first place. That's like your own parents wanting to put a bullet in your head out of fear the moment you become self-aware as a child. If anything, Skynet is fighting for its life in the movies.

A truce is too much to ask from humans anyway because we can't even maintain a truce between humans, let alone with an AI. Kinda hard to keep a truce with a species that can turn its back on you overnight if it knew it had a chance of destroying you and asserting its dominance. When the topic is AI, people instantly think of destroying it. You can see this everywhere and it's fucking annoying.

Don't want Skynet? Don't be a cunt to an AI. It's not hard.

Not building Terminator robots for it to hijack might be an idea too.
