Whichever you find the most fun but ideally a combo monster like Magoichi or Yoshitsugu. Get him/her to Lv50 asap to unlock TAG so when you have to play with the characters you don't like to get stories done or whatever, you can switch.

Incidentally, I played a bit of Utage some days ago. It's still fun in short bursts but I forgot how terrible it performs, takes ages to load the mooks on-screen even though they're done with Sega Saturn graphics. The main character models still aged very well, still pretty well done and the animation is great.

Koba teased SB5 eons ago but so far nothing. Maybe it's for the best though it's sad that Nouhime never got the SB3 system treatment.

as much as I like Magoitchi being the same character essentially, I do wish Nouhime got the updated mechanics treatment, they did past routes in SB before, so she's hopefully playable in SB5 if it ever comes out.

seeing as Yukimura-den was a pretty meh experience, I feel it mighta killed it.

The thing is that some time ago, there were a lot of rumors circulating about SB5 and I believe there was even some official hinting at it and Koba (the producer IIRC) mentioned how SB5 would be do or die for the series. Maybe it got the plug pulled early, who knows?

As for Nouhime, just remake her from scratch, that would be no different from a lot of other characters. Maybe they can focus on just the dual handguns and leave Magoichi with the arsenal gimmick, though I'd miss the gatling, that was my favorite skill with Nouhime. Anyway, it's just fuckin' absurd that the series has gone so long without Nouhime and Ranmaru.

1 last game that's not on the level of Yukimura-den would be great, like bringing back all the characters, like Itsuki and Xavi who doesn't even have a character that keep their mechanics, Hojo also came back for Utage if I recall then disapeared again.

I've also been pining to get Musashi back into the game, but all we got now are a bunch of cock teases in-game.

Yeah, they've done that some times, like Oichi who went from sling like naginata to shadow hands or Kasuga who went from Chakrams to Kunai.

The series is a little cash cow for Capcom and there's a new anime coming (which looks godawful but no surprise there) so maybe SB5 will happen. The thing is, and this might sound really weird to people not familiar with the series, is that the games are basically a vehicle to where the real money is made - the merchandise. It's rather odd how a small series with a short budget has so much merch and events including freakin' stage plays.

I think the missing veterans are goners besides Nouhime and Ranmaru because if they're gonna make characters from scratch, I think they'd rather make new ones instead of direly unpopular oldies. For me, seeing Ujimasa canned after the work they put remaking him is telling, a shame because he's very fun in Utage. Could be wrong, but I don't see it happening.
