NISA would be like "LOOK WE HAVE SEN 3!!!!" But NISA has no big reasons to get sen 3 and 4. Way too many resources for games that require to have played all the previous games, or at least, sen 1 and 2. And 3 for 4.

Don't really like what Falcom did to the Tower of Stargaze in Sen 3.

Im not sure if its from playing falcom games and never having really touched final fantasy games, but i am having am extremely difficult time playing ff games. My friend recommended me ff6 and ive been going through it. The problem is that its just incredibly boring to me. The story im sure is there but it seems like it takes forever to get to any part of it. This isnt the only ff game ive struggled with. Practically all of them fail to really make me care. Is that something that just happens after playing these games or is ff a series thats always been kinda shitty store wise. I feel like a lot of the love for the games in ff, specially older ones, stems from the fact that these guys played them back when they were released. I do enjoy some some jrpgs from that era but very few.

I think a lot of the praise Lloyd gets is due to how well his games work on other levels, the supporting cast, the plot and the least ammount of "Holding back" in the series, even though it still has some(seriously go back to when you fight Duvalie in the tower in Ao and when you fight her in final dungeon of sen2, they are NOT the same person).

Lets take the plot for example, it written to be mystery story with "Who killed Guy Bannings" story spanning both games, obviously there's other mysteries, that require characters think like detectives, and Lloyd IS the detective, other than him you have miss perfect role model, tech loli and perverted big bro, in that sense, Estelle, Kevin or Rean wouldnt be able to come close to him

Next you have the side charactes, though often very cliched, they are still great, here Lloyd wins because he has entire game dedicated to getting close to just 3 people that make up the entire party, and the other characters that join you in Ao are still developed plenty in Zero. Lloyd is ellevated greatly by being close with other people and having good interactions with them, Rean fails at that because the inflated Sen roster doesnt give him enough time to properly interact with some people, Laura for example is a joke of a character, basically saberclone, and Gaius loses the seemingly "bro" qualities you would notice with how he interacts with Rean at the start of the game(this hits even harder in Sen2 because of the Dreichels parrarels)

If they continue using this "Oh no we're going to lose, better summon Valimar" "oh no you don't" shit to introduce every single character in Sen 4 I'm going to be a little mad.

Osborne works for himself and has never claimed to work for anyone else. Most people don't know what he's thinking or planning, but that's just the mark of a good chessmaster character. People ally or fight against him, but his goals have never changed.

Blueblanc was revealed as an Ouroboros enforcer first. It's literally how he's introduced in Trails in the Sky. If his identity came as a surprise, then you're playing the games in the wrong order.

Sharon is treated as suspicious from early on. The fact that she's working for someone else is barely hidden. The fact that it's Ouroboros is simply par for the course.

Crow is pretty much a straight up reveal, yes. But having characters suddenly reveal their identities and changing the plot has been something that's been happening since Sky. As for his being alive again, that's tied in with the knights and something that was teased all the way back in Crossbell with Arianrhod. Incidentally it was the gnomes that brought him back, not Ouroboros. Ouroboros is basically sidelined and playing catchup with Osborne this arc.

George is pretty much the only shocking swerve of any of these. Not the first fat guy to pull a sudden murderous heel turn on the cast of a Trails game, though.

I guess I could see Rufus being a double agent for Osborne to be something a swerve, but he was way too smart to be working for an idiot like Cayenne.

Again, Misty/Vita is pretty par for the course with Anguis reveals.

Problem is that everytime I win/lose the game freezes. I've tried the newly patched version and the unpatched version. Running japanese locale and everything. Google didn't help me. Character and plot wise, I don't feel Cold Steel is as strong as Sky was. I don't quite know how to put it to words, but the feeling of the two sub-series are very different, at least for me. It doesn't feel like the cast or adventures of CS I or II have the same level of depth or charm as Sky did. It just feels like they… didn't try as hard, or something. Like I said, I'm not sure how to put it, but CS just felt kind of lacking.

I know what you mean. While I've been enjoying CS so far, it's just not on the same level as TitS. Maybe the worldbuilding aspect is just as good, but the storytelling feels inferior, as if there wasn't enough time spent on writing it. With Sky everyone is pretty much on the same page, with Agate being the outlier at first, it was nice to see some characters in CS have to deal with people having differing opinions and learn to work together despite those opinions. I think they needed to expand on that more, though.

There were 4 of them, and the only one I liked was Machias/Jesus. Machias may had a point about the nobility being a bunch of jackasses who can get away with murder, true. But it was shown that the way he generalized all nobles was extreme, and he provoked a few of the situations he got into. I liked that sort of nuance.

Laura feels that he doesn't take his swordsmanship as seriously as he should. Laura pouts for an evening and the next day Rean concedes that she's right. It's fine, but incredibly short-lived.

Starts with her being mad at him for taking the beunt of her fall and accidentally ending up with her boobs in his face. She seemingly forgives this quickly, only to go back on it almost faster and just kind of stick to that annoying tsundere attitude. As dev's choice girl, they have a bunch of cute moments throughout and she opens up to him, but the sour note of their initial interactions mars the thing.

>Laura/Fie

Also known as a Laura discovers Fie is a jaeger, then proceeds to not talk about what the hell her problem is for two chapters and make things awkward for everyone until Laura gets over herself. This is fine in and of itself, especially as it takes one of Laura's virtues, her sense of honor, and explores it as a negative. It's a good follow-up after her interaction with Rean in the first chapter, where she took a similar disdain to him when she felt he didn't meet her standard of a swordsman of the 8 Leaves. My problem with that comes down to its presentation. It's a forced awkwardness that isn't really developed since Laura never says anything, and Fie has no clue what Laura's problem is because she's done nothing to provoke this reaction. It's a one-sided conflict that resolves itself easily once Laura actually opens her damned mouth. Maybe it's suppose to display a lack of social skills that she turtles up when she can't use her sword, but I don't think there's anything else in her interactions with characters to support that. Nothing I remember off the top of my head, anyway.

I can agree with that. Her character development isn't really plot relevant, it's mostly just her getting used to making friends and being around people. Not particularly compelling as it's presented, but it's there.

Alisa is a tsundere flip flop who doesn't really understand what she wants, with a (self-inflicted in my opinion) complicated relationship with her mother… as I wrote that, I came to understand that it's actually an accurate portrayal of a teenage girl. Still don't like it.

Emma is so busy being mysterious for no reason that she basically does nothing and lacks as much in character as Laura does. What makes her so much worse is that with her duty as a witch supposed to watch over and guide Rean as an Awakener, she SHOULD be so much more prominent. She should have ALISA'S level of prominence. We should've felt like she was being shoved in our faces, because that's what she should have been doing! Changing Field Study rosters so she's always in Rean's group. Trying to be friendly to him. Give him support when he doubts himself. SOMETHING. But no. Her cat does her job better than her. You could get rid of Emma, replace her few necessary moments with Celine, and you lose nothing. Hell, it might even be a better mystery. At least it wouldn't feel like as much of a waste as Emma is.

Thinking about it, Alisa and Emma feel bizarrely out of place in their own roles. If they switched, Emma being the company heiress and Alisa being the witch, they'd both become MUCH better characters. 1. Mishy is something she genuinely likes of her will, not forcing herself to fit a mold.

2. I feel you missed a "because" when you spoke of Laura resenting her femininity. I don't really think she does, but if she does, it's because her lacking femininity might make it hard for her to make friends with other girls. Laura's character flaws and challenges in CS I and II boil down to "she needs to get out more". She's lived in Legram her whole life and is used to leading a certain type of life with certain people. Going to Thors is a big change of pace. She meets different types of people and has to figure out how to interact with them outside of sword training. Laura is incredibly formal, not like the unintentional insensitivity of many "no social skills characters", but still something that holds people at arm's length. Over the course of her time at Thors, she becomes more casual and warm towards others. She also gets to see the world outside Legram, be exposed to new things and settings, and through Fie has her black and white view of people challenged and becomes more open-minded. She's a sheltered girl who took her first steps into the world outside of her comfort zone. It's subtle, not very compelling as presented, but I see… SOMETHING there, at least.

It was a pretty good experience overall, considering I wasn't sure what to expect with the whole bump system thing. I ended up liking it because it made travelling through the world a breeze, and it was fun literally running over monsters. Simple, yet good. Actually, this sums up the experience as a whole. The story wasn't amazing by any means, but it was refreshing reading something with no bullshits, complex storylines or pretentious moral lessons. Just "there's a bad guy out there, we're fucked, our goddess are fucked, help us!". Granted, if it wasn't for the characters and how the world is handled, that by itself would make everything feel bland. Speaking about characters, everyone is either charming or charismatic, I really liked most of them also Lilian best girl. Even though Adol is silent and he is your average good guy, for some reason I felt a lot of character from him. The attention to details blown me away, considering it's a game from 1987. The NPCs dialogues, the thing about talking to monsters, the side events and everything about the world felt just right of what one would expect from a Falcom game. No wonder TiTS is so good regarding this, even Tokyo Xanadu impressed me, they're doing the same thing since the 80s. The 2009 OST is amazing, a masterpiece translation of the 88 version (which is very good by itself, even by today standards). For some reason though the 2001 version felt kind of wrong to me, don't know why. I don't think they're masterpieces, this title goes to TiTS in my opinion, but they are nevertheless great games worthy of a playthrough or two.

I initially thought the same thing, but after some time thinking about it I'm very glad Falcom didn't have to resort to using deaths to bring out emotion in the player, and the game feels much more authentic (in FC especially) by making death so much rarer than you would see in other games. Well, you'll get your wish, 3rd is all about him. It's more of a very drawn out epilogue to SC than a real chapter in itself. 99% of it takes place in a pocket dimension with no real relevance to the real world. It does very little to move the story forward and focuses entirely on Kevin's character arc unfortunately, he stops being the hilariously edgy and ice cold asshole he is and turns into that nice guy persona he was faking. You will probably like 3rd more if you know ahead of time that it's basically a long epilogue that doesn't even take place in the actual world they live in. I went in hoping for a proper adventure like FC and SC and was disappointed.

If anything it feels horribly contrived, because characters just keep surviving situations where they should have died. It's terrible in SC. The most egregious example is the bell lady that even has a fucking death scene only for Falcom to add a "tee hee just kidding" at the end. It also makes everyone involved look like idiots, because they always just stand around while the bad (or at times good) guys escape. And they always come back to cause trouble again, making the main characters once again look stupid because they never think to kill or at the least incapacitate their reoccurring enemies.

Then there's that CS2 is supposed to be about a bloody war, yet almost no one dies except for NPCs in the western side of the country that you never see or hear. It even pulls shit like that the huge military base that was nuked in CS1 was actually just teleported away or something and the people inside are alive.

There's a difference between pointlessly killing off characters and being too afraid to kill off characters to the point where it seems like everyone is immortal and incompetent.

KeA didn't want to kill anyone, so no one died in the attack. However, the earlier ILF raid did result in deaths, as did the attack on the watchtower in Nord.
