If you go by fan translations and substitute hope and despair with trust and mistrust, it's a really enjoyable, one of a kind experience. That is, the first one. Any game onwards is worse in all aspects and the only reason to talk about them is for the fap fodder.

2 is at least worth a playthrough if you liked 1 if only for 4th and 5th chapter. Ultra Despair Girls is pretty crap with the only good thing being the silly chatter between the two MCs. V3 I haven't yet played but it's supposed to be a giant middle finger to the fans, on top of being full NISA.

The original concept for the game was quite different and even darker, with "trust vs. distrust" instead of "hope vs. despair". The working title was even "Distrust", and there's a fair bit of info about that online. Beyond that all the games are NISA's handiwork but 1 got an OK translation, and supposedly better than the fan translation for the original on PSP. 2 gets worse. V3, as I said, is where it gets to NISA=CANCER levels.

Unless there's something in 3 the only pronoun shenanigans are a glitch in the first game where trying to access another character's room always says "looks like she's not there" even for the males. It’s unironically edgy bullshit with colors added in so it seems less edgy. It’s a 6/10 game with awful writing, and since it relies so heavily on writing it isn’t worth playing. If only they developed Distrust, but since SC aren’t crazy Slavs it was not meant to be.

Aoi Asahina is incredible though.
