You know what franchise i miss but never thought i would?
Fucking Resistance.
I remember when the PS3 launched and nobody touched it because of the NOGAEMS situation before it got its shit together in '08. The few who did buy it were shilling Resistance Fall of Man as 'the halo killer' back when halo wasn't a trash series used as a 'brand zombie' to keep the 'like this halo 2 image if you had an awesome childhood!' generation on the xbox teat. Most wrote it off as more desperation like Haze or Killzone.
But after the PS3 rebranded and got actual games i picked it up and fond the game to be enjoyable. It was the rachett and clank devs doing their usual crazy weapon shit but in an alternate WW2 setting. 2 was okay but for some reason had a huge art direction change that turned the enemy into the combine and was kind of a let down.
It had multiple handheld releases and a 3rd and final game but it was the end of the consoles lifespan and nobody had any interest as next gen shill engines began to turn over. So it sold like shit and the studio dropped the ip for good.
But i picked it up for £2 online and was surprised to see its actually really quite good. They brought back the weapon wheel long before DOOM 2016 did, the graphics for the time along with size of levels is impressive and the bleak post WW2 alt universe second great depression is an interesting blend of faded old americana and this sun bleached wild west style palette.
Obviously brute forcing constant releases only leads to shitty sequels but its kind of sad that Resistance 3 was 7 years ago and it ends on a somewhat cliffhanger over the fate of the world.
