Are there any mmos worth playing left?

Everything just feels so pointless and formulaic. It's always the same thing, log in, realize there's only one or two things to do, log out. I can't find motivation to do anything in any mmo I can think of. There just doesn't seem to be any mmo where I can just go out and do something that isn't the same tired old shit. pvp used to fill the void for me but pvp in mmos has become as boring and formulaic as any pve content, not to mention world pvp doesn't exist anymore period.

They tried to be worthwhile for a bit with mixed results since internet wasn't so fast back then, until WoW proved that you barely even have to be a game for the MMO to be considered succsessful. Since they've all been shit.

That would imply that there were any worth playing in the first place. It's a dead genre that'll never see the light of day again, and thank fuck.

Once XIV and WoW peter out, it'll be dead for good, and videogames will be all the better for them. Games which rely on artificial content gating, rep grinds, and skinner boxes aren't healthy anyway. Go play some real games that aren't designed to waste your time and manipulate you, but instead entertain you.

That's definitely the worst part, even bad games are enjoyable with other people, but now you'll get weird looks if you try to even slightly interact with each other. Every one just expects you to sit down shut up and do your role in the dungeon that you've all done for the millionth time, they just want to get through what is supposed to be a big point of the game as fast as possible.

It's also so aerie, people act like npcs to such a degree you might as well not be playing an mmo.

star trek online is the worst offender of this. if your not in some private chat there's almost nobody talking to eachother anywhere in the game, even in the stupid queue's (PvE dungeons), there's no communication with the team at all, no voice chat, nobody is even on discord, nobody says a word in chat ever.

Even in your fleet (guild), there is rarely any communication, because teamwork is not required at all for anything ever. The only teamwork required is you grinding currency X,Y, and Z and contributing it toward your fleet with the click of a button.

The saving grace of STO is you can treat it like a single player game where there just happens to be a bunch of people around, there's a ton of content, most of it is voice acted, a lot by the actual actors in the series. That and what they call in game "space barbie" the entire point of the game is to collect ships that cost $30+ worth of game currency which you can purchase outright or grind hard for a month.

Nah. What scraps remain at the moment are just companies squeezing last shekels out of last remnants of their audiences.

Unless someone comes up with a new revolutionary concept that does not inevitably turn into mindless grinding for the sake of grinding, the MMO genre is dead. Stone dead. The only exception is EVE, which is why it maintains a steady (albeit low) amount of subscribers, but the community is outright deranged.

The only time any MMO was good was when your were having fun playing it with your friends.

>>15336082

All the fun is social but like most things gamers are pretty passive and you have to force interaction, which makes it more like work. In the end shitposting in a chatroom is just as fun with less garbage gameplay.

The most fun I managed to find in EVE was mic spamming in chat.

Or attacking innocent people, sending them a mail like "hey buddy your ship got bloweded up you should be more careful next time." then they'd respond "I will kill you. You die bitch." then I'd send them a notification that they were my officially enemy now. I cannot explain how amusing I found that.

tbh when I read about MUDs or UO it seems like that stuff was more common back then but the audience is different now.

>Are there any mmos worth playing left?

No there are not. MMO's nowadays are nothing but failed shekel-making machines with casualized as fuck mechanics. The mmorpg genre itself is dying as it becomes less and less relevant here which is why you start to see a majority of mmos moving on to the mobile platform as it is always the easiest way to make money if you can't do so on consoles or PC.

If you absolutely must play some mmo for whatever reason, play private servers so that you won't have to deal with shit like (((cash shops))) like pic-related. If only there was a private server of this

715974  No.15343116

Guild Wars is pretty good, but sparsely populated. It was always a pretty good singleplayer game to begin with so you can play it as a party-based action game with optional and well-integrated multiplayer.

There are some active guilds but you can't play through with a whole team of fellow new players, so if you're looking for that magical sense of adventure journeying through a new world with a bunch of other players who're also seeing it for the first time, that's not going to happen.

Still a great game and has a really good combat and build system.

I guess until internet technology gets better, which it won't in the USA, there's no reason to improve the MMO business model. MMOs cost too much money to set up and therefore always wind up being Jewish skinnerboxes in the end.

Unless we make an MMO based on decentralized networks where each player's computer is a possible world or server and stats are tied to your account and keep main servers for major events I don't see MMOs improving their business model.

fedbf3  No.15343229

You say you want a social MMO, but I can't imagine such a thing being desirable in the modern era either. If you consider how pozzed most big studio developers are these days, for any big title they attempt to make, their narrative is likely to draw in SJWs and their mechanics are likely to draw in casuals. Making social interaction with others a regular thing will eventually bring you in the path of someone who gets bothered with something you say enough that they report it to the devs and probably get you banned, negating any investment you may have placed into that game.

Why would you want to play anything like the stories put out by modern studios, or interact with the people who play them?

It is a lose-lose situation. MMOs need a large amount of people to stay successful. But any game with a large amount of people caring about it will always attract the mindless normalfags, and thus, the company making the game will have to make it completely shit, so the mindless will be able to "play" it.

The MMO formula is fated to turn the games into shit.

> otherwise it's a "sandbox" mmo where you grind away building shit that someone is going to burn down when you're offline

MMORPGs are a dead genre because they have ZERO creativity in their design. They have done nothing but "refine" the same formula that has existed since the late nineties and have not innovated in two decades. I tried Wakfu recently hearing it was "unique" and "weird"– and to my complete lack of surprise it was a bog standard themepark MMORPG but with FFT style combat and aggressive F2P cancer. Wow, it's fucking nothing! The real reason why all MMOs suck is because they take a huge investment to make, and the only way to get that investment is by using the "safe" formula that jews know makes money: WoW clones. Tab targeting, hotkey mashing, soulless gookshit WoW-clones. So unless smaller studios find a way to make something unique in the MMO genre, it is going to continue to be nothing more than the industrially produced garbage it has been for the last twenty years.

This tee bee ayich. Next truly good mmo would have to be made by someone who:

>has very good general idea

>makes the game because he wants to make good mmo and not simply profit from it

There must be some sort of innovation, we're stuck at rdf queues that put 5 people together who you may not even see ever again. I'd rather play 2 player dungeon with a friend than 5 man with randoms because the latter will eventually feel like grinding in singleplayer game.

The only MMO I've ever truly enjoyed is Runescape and the enjoyment came from the fact that when you died you dropped all your shit. High risk, high reward. You saw someone dying next to you and you could just loot his shit. This also made the the PvP more exciting. In wow PvP was a joke. What's the point of going to the horde territory to kill shit when you couldn't even loot their stuff? What a waste of potential. one of my problems with mmo's, having played everquest, albeit retardedly, at like age 10, and WoW later for like a year is that now a days things like WoWhead exist, so you need to know something just bing it up have your answer, farm your shit.
