Literally the only reason you should be leveling anything is to satisfy requirements for gear and that's about it.

At end game if you have the gear you want on, then the only thing you should level is Vitality and Endurance.

Since you have higher Dex then Strength, pick up a high Dex requirement weapon if you haven't already and stick with it. In your case since you already have the stats for it, you'll want to pick up a spear or halberd.

The way you're statted in regards to boss weapons you can actually use, you have the right stats for the Dragonslayer Spear, Lifehunt Scythe and Quelagg's Furysword. You get the boss soul for the Furysword after you kill Blighttown's boss, but you get pretty much nothing else after that aside from maybe a Black Knight greatsword down the line.

I reccommend that you don't touch anything other then Vitality from here on out before you fuck up your stats more, you've pretty much locked yourself into a mostly Dex build and already meet the requirements for multiple dual Strength/Dex weapons.

So generally literally the only thing you can do with your build is pick up a weapon that speaks to you and git gud. If you got lucky on the Black Knight Sword but still have trouble git gud harder.

>Resistance has resistance to status effect and damage resistance? Wow, this seems more valuable than just plain health

I've never understood why people don't just view the stat changes and see that a level in resistance is usually not even an extra 1% increase on a resistance that's threshold related and not proc related. Especially when they can look at alternative armor choices and see that there's single pieces that give out effective 20%+ increases to poison res just be equipping them. Same goes for just about every stat. You see pretty siginificant boosts to hp for every level invested until at least 20, returns diminish after that but are usually still the better investment over like an extra point or two of weapon damage when weapon upgrades give dozens, or even hundreds if adding element/magic, of extra damage points. It's not exactly as if you need to be a dork souls expert to see this, and there are a lot of builds that do require better understanding of how stats work to make, but this is simply a case of choosing the option that provides the best returns. Unless of course you're roleplaying a trash chracter or something?

4817e6  No.15331896

Ignore the faggots, resistance is objectively terrible to put points into but it's not the end of the world, especially for a first run.

Just dump all your points into vitality from here on out - those other stats will do you fine. Just be sure to find a decent dex scaling weapon (at least C or above).

New stats for anal rodeo. I got a fair bit of souls while looking around for the bonfire and I spent most

of them on large shards for +6 armor on all pieces but one. Also left the black knight sword by the fire

because it was too good and upped the spear to +10. Also found dicks rapesword and pushed it to 10+.

I'm thinking of just upping Vit to 25 and then get a few levels of End. In the long run I want to push that

to 30 at least so I don't need to rely on Havels ring for equip load. I could actually take a few good hits

from the golem so HP feels like less of a problem for the moment.

stat scaling on gear is also important, you want to hit the softcaps on your offensive stat, followed up with 40 endurance for the stamina cap, and then the rest in vitality.

Fuck, I put all my souls into +5 silver spear and thinking I'd need it for Ornstein and Smough and I breezed past them on the first go. If I find a better source for titanite chunks I'm not putting another point into Vit

because the armor is too good. Got Impaled on Ornsteins spear and shocked and barely lost half my HP.

Silver knight armor looks fab as fuck though. Shame about the helmet and general proportions looking stupid

when its scaled down to player-size.

If certain stats are entirely or effectively pointless to the degree that they destroy your build, rather than allowing for a viable alternate build, then isn't that indicative of terrible game design? Further, certain stats have soft-caps which make leveling them fruitless wastes of souls - but no significant in-game indicator letting the player know that investing in that stat beyond a certain point is an exercise in diminishing returns.

Why does Dark Souls get a pass for this?

Also, what is the meta for the crows in the game? I've only ever beaten Dark Souls III and Bloodborne, but I hear there's a rogue goddess in the games which has the form of a crow, and each game has sentient crows that trade you for gear.

Are PicklePee and her sisters the true protagonists of Dark Souls?

>If certain stats are entirely or effectively pointless to the degree that they destroy your build, rather than allowing for a viable alternate build, then isn't that indicative of terrible game design?

Not really. It's wasted potential, but doesn't really ruin anything. You can make dumb build decisions in any RPG. Otherwise every class-based RPG system would be "terrible game design" if they allowed you to make a wizard with no intelligence and maxed strength.

>Further, certain stats have soft-caps which make leveling them fruitless wastes of souls - but no significant in-game indicator letting the player know that investing in that stat beyond a certain point is an exercise in diminishing returns.

You can watch what happens to your stats as you level them.

>>15342734

ADP is shit because iframes need to be timed precisely and the worst thing to do with anything reaction-based is to vary the window of valid input. It would be like playing Guitar Hero with a random input window.

Resistance, if it worked properly, would be a fine stat. The reason it doesn't work well in DS1 is primarily because both level and humanity also count towards defense and they add together to hit the soft cap.

Actually it's smart game design. By making you start over if you fuck up, it incentivizes alternative builds and strategies. Additionally,it fosters discussion such as this. Path of Exile also worked this way.

Diminishing returns are a necessary evil to stop minmaxing

aeb4b2  No.15347349

>>15342797

But allow me to elaborate further because I'm bored for anyone who actually gives a shit.

>If certain stats are entirely or effectively pointless to the degree that they destroy your build, rather than allowing for a viable alternate build, then isn't that indicative of terrible game design?

The only way you are ever "punished" in dark souls for being higher level is A) higher level up cost next time and B) the invasion level calculation. Assuming you're talking about being invaded, you're far more likely to be invaded by a lower level player anyway because of how the calculation works in both the original (no upper level cap, a level 1 player can invade a level 713 player) and in the remaster (can still normally invade higher level players than you can co-op with).

If you play offline, the only punishment you get for being a retard is wasting your own time getting more souls to make up for it, and even then, you can still proceed with the same stats as before and progress without too much issue most of the time.

>Further, certain stats have soft-caps which make leveling them fruitless wastes of souls - but no significant in-game indicator letting the player know that investing in that stat beyond a certain point is an exercise in diminishing returns.

Stats suffer from diminishing returns as you increase them, displaying the exact effect each time you level it to teach the player about this mechanic, and every single one will "soft cap" eventually. At that point, only slight advantages come from each increase, some give you nothing but an increase in your soul level (attunement after 50 for example), but even that still has some effect, since your soul level is used to calculate your base defense. this is why all your defenses go up when you start leveling. This also soft caps to an extent, which is why at SL 8 every defense will increase when you level, but at SL 100 it's likely only one will

All of these effects though are clearly visible when you level up, even going to far as to tell you before you commit to increasing that stat the exact effects each one will have, allowing you to experiment until you find what seems best. At the same time, any starting class with their base stats can still finish the game without impossible levels of difficulty as long as you upgrade your weapons , it'll just be harder, with each "smarter" level making a huge impact on reducing that difficulty. If you're just allocating points at random, chances are you'll still do fine, even if it is a bit tougher. While leveling up effectively does make the game easier, no matter how retarded you are with leveling or how many points you "waste" in soft capped skills, your build is never "destroyed" and the game gives you plenty of indication as you increase your stats that each level allocated to a stat has a smaller effect than the last.

Feel free to bully me for my autism; sage for not really adding much since >>15342797 explained this in general terms and the guy I'm replying to was just being a faggot anyway.

Here's a list of what each soft cap does for those who are wondering:

Vitality: less health per level, the gain is actually quite erratic at first, but beyond 50 it goes down quite harshly to less than 10 per level from the typical 20-30 per level.

Attunement: A slot is given at 10, then one more every 2 levels up to 4 slots, then it takes more each time. Once you hit 50 you get capped at 10 slots and after that attunement just gives you SL increase.

Endurance: Stamina generally goes up by 2 per level until 40 where it caps at 160. The Ring of Favor and Protection still increases it to 192 Equip load is 40 + Stamina which remains constant from 1-99

Strength: Increases strength stat scaling damage, soft caps at 20 then again at 40, diminishing returns pretty much the entire time.

Dexterity: Increases dexterity stat scaling damage, soft caps at 20 then again at 40, diminishing returns pretty much the entire time. Also speeds up spell casting, this caps at 45.

Resistance: Actually gives pretty good increases to poison resist up to 15, then some slight ones until 30, after that the increase is quite small. People call it worthless because poison resistance barely matters, and armor can be used when it does.

Intelligence: Increases int scaling on weapons and catalysts, gives heavy diminishing returns between 45-50 with the effect after that being very small.

Faith: Increases faith scaling on weapons and talismans, gives heavy diminishing returns between 45-50 with the effect after that being very small.

Humanity: Increases item droprates and the scaling damage on certain weapons, these effects cap at 10. Also added to your SL when calculating base defense, this continues to 99.

Soul Level: Increases base defense, diminishing returns as it does. The increase becomes very small after 100 or so since you generally just get one point in one defense per level around that time.

As a general rule, focusing on one stat will suffer from diminishing returns, and increases after 40-50 are very small. Resistance caps off a bit quicker but it's not really very useful anyway since armor generally can be used to give you poison resistance when you need it. I tried to account for the remaster wherever relevant, but I don't know all the changes since I really don't give a fuck about it

my autism was so big it had to be broken into two posts
