Come clean about your shit decisions.

>Brutal Legend

This is the game that taught me to never get "hyped" for a game,I bought into Mr Shitface off the back of Psychonauts and ignored all the red flags going in. I remember the cognitive dissonance I felt in the days before release about how misleading the marketing was.

>Sonic 2006

This is the game that convinced me to stop trusting reviewers. The passable scores it got were based off assurances that it would be fixed by release. It fucking wasn't.

>Final Fantasy XIII

I was actually wary about it right up until release week. I literally only bought it because of the name that was attached out of some sick obligation. It was everything I feared and more. Apparently a lot of people fell for XV too but at least I'm maybe 1% less retarded as I was before.

You're wrong about FF13. It was actually a well-polished but very linear game. Gameplay and battles can be little trial and error on your first playthrough, but it's nothing too unfair. The story and characters were a little retarded, but the same could be said about previous FF games. None of their plots have ever made much sense tbh. FF13 just gets hated on because it was too linear and not an open world experience. Like Skyrim. Which is weird now that I think about it. Everyone who hated FF13 has always liked Skyrim more by comparison. The wrpg popularity resurgence happened specifically around the same time FF13 was widely labelled a """disappointment""" and Skyrim became mega popular. I guess those grumpy fans really wanted their open world airship travelling like they did in FF6 or 7. Many even say that the best section of FF13 was that big area where you can ride chocobos around. Square Enix has since tried to appease this same crowd by making future FF titles "less linear" than FF13. This included FF13-2, Lightning Returns, and FF15. I wish that Square Enix never fell for the open world meme, but whiny niggers like you are to thank for that.

Most of 13-2 and Lightning Returns is alleged to come from all the cutting room floor stuff they wasted years making for absolutely no reason. XII was a complete mess.

>None of the plots ever made much sense.

None of the other needed mandatory codex reading to make even a little sense. Again the plot was written around whatever assets the art team shat out close enough to release and they wrote a bunch of text to fill in the gaps.

>Oblivion

I fell for the Todd Howard meme before it was even a meme. I expected Morrowind, but better. Instead, I got a shitty, consolized RPG-lite that I put down after 20 hours. It was that same, awful sinking feeling after going from Deus Ex to Invisible War. Thankfully, I never paid for Invisible War.

>The Movies

I fell for Peter Molyneux's lies. I went in expecting 3D Movie Maker, and instead got some Sims management style game. The game itself was okay at best, but it's not the game that I went in for.

>APB

This shit hurt the most. APB's open beta was fun as fuck, so I bought two copies for myself and my best bro. The game became a hackfest within a month and was shut down within three. And now I am continuing that string of bad decisions after clocking 2500 hours in GTA Online.

I did the "Keep him alive" thing and did the whole reverse blade thing. It was marketed as an interactive anime from the get go, you only have yourself to blame, i feel you though, i've been jewed many, many times with games that get their last few hours chopped off and turned into campaign DLC for the sake of money.

Dead Space 3 is one of those games, i loved the first two games so much i went in blind with the third part, i even stood in line for the steelbook limited edition and holy fuck, it wasn't worth it.

The game begins with the protagonist drinking himself into a coma because his girlfriend, the pilot from 2, left him because he was too much of a "mess", mind you that if this was a valid reason they wouldn't have gotten into a relationship in the first place since isaac tells her he broke out of a nuthouse the first time they meet. Said girl gets rescued by isaac and what does she do when they first meet? She kisses her new boyfriend (the guy you've been helping until now) right in front of isaac, effectively telling you he is a total cuck. The main villain looks like elton john, is a complete idiot and has the thickest of plot armors, halfway through the game he manages to overpower you (a seasoned necromorph veteran) and your partner (a guy who has been a soldier for nearly twenty years and has scars all over his body) and is about to execute you both, but your partner manages to headbutt one of his soldiers and detonates a grenade right next to elton, which doesn't even faze him for reasons unknown. The survival horror aspect was entirely taken out of the game in favour of improved third person shooter mechanics, you can now roll, crouch and take cover like in gears of war, the ammo is also universal and given out like candy, so you don't even have to bother with the plasma cutter this time, just craft yourself a fire shotgun with an underslung chaingun and you're set for life. Speaking of that, the third game is legitimately a ZOMBIE SURVIVAL CRAFTING WITH RPG MECHANICS, holy fuck. Locking the true ending behind a $20 DLC was the shit cherry on top, wanna know the best part? The ending of said DLC effectively makes the entire series pointless since no matter what you did, you could never stop the necromorphs as they are more or less space elder gods, and short of a planet sized gundam you can't do jackshit against them.

Now i know how rape victims feel.

>Brutal Legend

That game is completely in the TOP 5 of "WTF".

The game itself is weirdly enjoyable… except the core "missions" is some horrible STR (which is horrible only because of a TERRIBLE interface).

It's like the made everything about the game to be an action-adventure game, then decided that it was gonna be a STR for some reason.

And people call it a STR lite, it's not, not really, but the interface is so horrible it's totally unplayable as it should be so you HAVE to use the most cheesy tactics for it to work.

So what's enjoyable is actually not playing and roaming around for collectables and skirmishes and minigames. The environment is amazing, the soundtrack is fucking fantastic, the story is ok, scenario missions (outside battle) are good… But the core gameplay is horrible!

It's one of those games where you can fucking tell no one played the full thing and each teams were working on their own side.

And each team clearly knew what they were doing, so what does that leave?

Incompetent team coordinator, AKA project lead AKA Mr Shitface.

I'm ashamed to admit it took me years of AAA garbage until I was burnt several times in a row and realized Bioshock Infinite was a scam. I actually defended the game in the comments sections of GatherYourParty, if you can believe that. Despite all the plotholes, despite all the shitty graphics, despite all the contrived, hackneyed dialogue, what really told me Ken Levine had no idea what he was doing was the awful balance.

Within the first 90min of gameplay, you can get:

>gear that sometimes restores mana on enemy death

>Murder of Crows, a spell that covers almost any enemy onscreen with a stun + DoT effect

>upgrade to Murder of Crows which makes enemies killed while affected by it plant Murder of Crows traps where they die, which promptly burst into more crows because most enemies in that game are bunched together

I spent most of that game stunlocking rooms of enemies to death while spending half a dozen rounds on a single enemy and sometimes netting mana. It was deplorable.

These communities where mostly made from people that where overly autistic on one single game. I was in a CS 1,6 and CS Source clan and I remember always getting hyped about a new Valve game or speculating onto how their new games would be.

What broke my straws was when Valve gave TF2 for free then had those gay hats and other bullshit in the game. And then most of the clan members got married or moved on to other games, I kinda miss the autism these games brought but at the same time I am so glad that it stopped.

I mean, you had to play a game no matter what if the clan was competitive, then you would have people leaving the clan for another clan if it was a minor feud within the clan.

Then the last community game and PC game I played was SC2, I remember as if it was yesterday, I moved onto Starcraft 2 I had enough with all the autism and then I wanted a new game I could have fun with. Then I was obsessed with SC2 and I remember the rage whenever they patched something out and then I had enough.

I left PC gaming and went to consoles and now it feels like there is no one that plays consoles.

Also, while I do like where they went with the art design I still feel they crossed over into the dumb kind of silly a few time by sticking too closely to the metal theme, and the story still makes you out as a soyboy instead of slowly building you up into Metal Conan. All in all it's a great idea for a game, but the execution falls apart the more you play it.

Funnily enough I think aping Shadow of War/Mordor in terms of gameplay would have been a much better choice (though those games didn't exist back then, but still). Go around the countryside, storm enemy encampments, liberate prisoners and slaves, hoard a battle harem of waifus, seek out cool gear etc. and then use all the people you liberate to storm even bigger fortresses (or just go stealth).

>Concrete proof of "a delayed game is eventually good" being complete horseshit.

To be fair, that statement was made on the assumption that the delays are made because the game is still bad. Duke Forever got constantly delayed because the devs kept trying to shove the latest, greatest tech into it as soon as possible, which is a really dumb line of thinking.

Borderlands

-Overrated to meme

-All IA enemies has the same non-path stupid behavior.

-Awful RPG and shooting mechanics that need to be grind to work correctly. Much more teddious on higher difficulty

-A lot of bulletsponge enemies even on the same level

-Boring desert world

-Final boss it's just a piss easy to kill stationary squid.

Oh man, don't get me started on Borderlands. I first heard about it from a magazine article, and half the features they promised in it weren't in the final game. Let me just list off what I can remember off the top of my head:

>actual armor to equip, which means players who choose the same character can still look distinct from one another

>multiple different types of vehicles (instead of just two)

>opening the vault is the halfway point, and, once you open it, alien parts get added to the pool of weapons you can find

>flow of going to towns to get jobs, then heading out into the wasteland to do them

>overworld is large and open, and allows things like setting up ambushes for job targets, or the sniper character finding a high point from which to snipe from

>bird hive elephant thing implied to be a naturally occurring animal that you're sometimes asked to hunt (instead of a single, boring boss fight)

>much more serious art style and atmosphere

And then they turned it into a shitty mmo/fps/diablo hybrid with unfunny humor and tedious combat.

>he kills me in two blows every single fucking time and i do no damage to him

I remember playing WOTS on psp long time ago, isn't it supposed to be a somewhat "realistic" game where BOTH you and and the enemies die in 1 or 2 hits? I remember your sword has a limit on how much damage it can soak up so it acts as kind of like your health bar and you're basically supposed to prioritize never taking any body shots at all. Or is he actually invincible if you don't have the right sword?

Neither one of these is necessarily a bad game, just kinda mediocre and massively overrated. If nothing else, they taught me not to trust reviews and not to buy overhyped shite.

RDR can be pretty and atmospheric at times, but mostly it's just barren. Gameplay isn't anything special and the controls are laggy. I can't even remember the story beyond your wife getting kidnapped and you're forced to do something in order to get her back. I don't expect RDR2 to be any better.

Burnout sadly fell for the open world meme, and became from fun to just okay. Why EA thought it was a good idea to turn Burnout into open world when they already had Need for Speed that already had several open world games, is anyone's guess. My guess is that they're morons. Ironically Need for Speed did the open world better, especially Underground 1 & 2. But hey, at least we got four different versions of Girlfriend.

Yeah same here, some fag I knew picked it up though, from what I saw it had a tissue paper SP and then relied entirely on MP but had a dying-out-of-the-box userbase.

What's truly disturbing is that mentality has been adopted by so many devs who can't write games to save their lives, just push the MP hard and hope the users buy enough trinkets enough to turn them a profit rather than doing any actual fucking work on a story or world or history or anything.

Loved Burnout 3. I picked that up for 10 dollars for my Roommates PS4 because it was the only new burnout, just wanted to crash cars, the races are all linear bullshit sprints, there are no checkpoint races except on a tiny island, no tracks of any kind, traffic everywhere with no traffic checking.

How do games get worse with each sequel instead of getting better? I wasn't even mad, I finished the game even, I just don't understand.

>APB

So much cool shit and unexplored potential, but even the current 'new' version feels like it never got beyond an early beta state.

What really hurt was I lived a few streets away from the dev studio, and they were still riding high from the original Crackdown's release, so it felt like an honour to support "the nation's next DMA Design / Rockstar North".

Bonus: To make up for killing the game so quickly, EA (who published / killed it) told eligible account-holders to contact their support team, choose any digital package from EA's current catalog (Origin wasn't a thing yet), and they'd get it for free.

Spending £25 on APB, but then getting Mass Effect 2 + all of its DLC (worth £75 at the time) in return, was a pretty fair trade.

They didn't delay it to improve on the said game, they basically developed three different games during that time, starting over a couple of times because it was using outdated software.

And it's a fun game, completely in vain of the earlier Duke Nukem-games. I don't get why faggots gets their panties in a bunch over a solid FPS-game and a Duke Nukem-game. It was basically better than all the other rehashed brown, gloomy war-is-terrible-shooters of that era.

i remember watching E3 when the showed coop gameplay and from that moment i knew this would end up shit

the there was leak that EA expected some ridiculous amount of copies sold (several times more than DS2) or DS is dead

and then the release came

it looked like ass

the previous games the environment was almost a character on its own

and the enemies also looked like ass

the fresh corps gore look was gone and instead we got green zombies/skeletons

and the gunplay was ruined

i could get over the universal ammo but instead of surgical limb removing simulator it become generic bulletsponge 3rd person action

i enjoyed brutal legend but the demo was misleading and the game just kinda of hit a point and decided it had to end right there. You could beat the entire game with 1 or 2 bass guys and filling the rest out with headbangers, it was pretty mindless.

Deus Ex, I FOMOd in seeing the game in every top 3 list of all time, the fans made it sound amazing. And then I fell for it again, and again and again. I reinstalled and fell for it AGAIN, at least five more times. I don't doubt people really like it but I find it boring. People praise it for being openended, you can do anything. Alright, but if I wanted a stealth, action or roleplaying game I wouldn't play Deus Ex, it excels at nothing, its an "atmosphere" game. I finally realized I cannot enjoy every game simply because other people like it. After likely 25 cumulative hours I completely dropped the game, and because of that I cannot trust the opinion of people who make it out to be amazing. I have also dropped similarly hyped "atmosphere" games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (20 hours), Morrowind (30 hours) and Alpha Centauri (~6 hours). I will also not give a fair shot at enjoying VtMB, Perfect Dark, Planescape Torment or FATE/Stay Night, because people who like the games I have already dropped commonly recommend to me these games

I pre-ordered Red Orchestra 2

They promised

-lots of vehicules.

-You could enter and move inside the tank in first person.

-A good sountrack

-Historical accuracy

-More than 2 gamemodes

-And many other things.

All we got on release were:

-Very little maps (they had promised a lot of them and that they would be interesting).

-There was no leningrad map from red orchestra ostfront (they actually declined the map from being in the official game from choosing only a few shit maps from a contest they made for mappers instead of actually using them).

-Shitty framerate (wasnt fixed before months after),

-A very shitty network framework (you would still get lag and rollback from having under 80 ping, on the rare occasions you had less than 150 ping),

-A shitty unlockable systems for your guns with the endgame unlocks being the other team's weapons

-Only one type of tank per team sometimes no tank at all in some maps

-The maps were total shit and not fun to play in , mostly big open fields (which wasn't really what the game was supposed to look like, it was supposed to be set in Stalingrad and we got a shitload of maps set outside of it).

I'm sure I am forgetting some things too but thats the jest of what I can come up with, I never pre ordered a game as pricey as 60$ ever again.
