Why is there so much love for this character? Why does anyone care about him?
From a character design standpoint, he has no appeal whatsoever. Hes just a fatty with pinkeye. I can understand rooting for Ridley, since he looks like a total badass - but King K Rool? He just looks like a goofy cartoon.
The last time he was relevant was in the 90s. Even in the games where he was a villain, he only got 5 minutes of screen time. At least Ganondorf got to give cool evil speeches.

Personally, I don't really care for K. Rool at all. His design is a bit unique, sure, but his name is really dumb and the idea behind him seems a bit rushed out the door.
I think people mostly just wanted him in because they missed him in the DKCR series.
Overall, I don't think he'll be that strong in Smash Ultimate, I'm willing to bet he has a lot of the same weaknesses as the other heavyweights.
