Vampirism as an analogy to LGBT is spread throughout canonical WW sources. The actual tabletop is extremely edgy in the Coldsteel the hedgehog vein.
However a lot of WW adaptations like VtmB tone it down considerably or do something else with it. VtmB is a really good example in this regard because it's far more inspired by Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. It mostly uses WW's canon as just a jumping off point.

This is actually one of the better aspects of VtmB is it's focus on humanity.
Heather Poe is my favorite character in the game for this reason. She's a character who you meet in a hospital and you can choose to save her life, and you gain humanity for doing this. But later on in the game she tracks you down and it turns out the vampire blood you gave her is addictive and she NEEDs more of it. And she wants to abandon her life and live with you now. You can choose to tell her to fuck off but indirectly this is actually a bad idea because it'll just make her probably join the Sabbat or some worse Vampire. Telling her to leave causes you to gain humanity.
Heather then lives with the player in their in game apartment and basically does everything for them in-exchange for feeding on your blood. It's actually very analogous to a real world relationship with a drug dealer. This is most highlighted toward the end of the game when Heather reports that a bunch of weird men have been stalking her and the apartment and you can suggest doing a bunch of things like carrying a gun on her. But the only thing that keeps her alive is telling her to stay inside as long as possible. Or telling her to leave you. Otherwise she dies.
Heather Poe is one of the most interesting characters in the game because unlike a lot of the other characters you go into it with the best of intentions but then you accidentally become a very bad influence on her and the only way to really save her is to do the right thing at the expense of gameplay (Since she's really useful as a blood drop you can restore your health from). There's very few rpgs that encourage the player to do what seems to be the right thing but it turns out to be a highly negative thing overall and your actions arguably cause more harm overall.

Okay I just did some more research about it. It turns out letting Heather live by telling her to stay inside is something the unofficial patch added. I dunno how to feel about this. In the vanilla game if you didn't release her she always dies at the end.
The last time you can release Heather is right before Chinatown. So more or less the middle of the game. She also reveals to the player that she was in college before you saved her life and she even gives you the money she was saving up for it. And that she has a grandmother. She can also kidnap some dude that she locks in the player's closet for you.
Heather Poe was actually one of the first times I genuinely felt bad for an NPC in a video game. And it was entirely because I went into it with the best intentions. It's one of the most stand-out moments of the game for me.

tbh Troika's games were really unpolished and NEEDED at least another year of tightening. One of the biggest differences between Fo1 and Arcanum is how Fo1 was basically tested to the point it was idiot proof. Brian Fargo designed the game in such a way that even if you made a character with ass backwards stats, it was technically possible to beat the game albiet way harder.
Arcanum was very different its balance was all over the place. Like how unmodded guns characters are very unviable compared to melee ones. Magic is also EXTREMELY overpowered. They also didn't get coop working with the main game for some reason and fans had to fix that for them too.
VtmB is very similar except there the devs didn't get the time they were promised from Activision and the Source engine was a huge nightmare to make a game on. They should've built the game with something like Unreal 2 it probably would've played a lot better and Valve wouldn't have added as many restrictions to the game as they did. They also probably wouldn't have had to code in so many workarounds to Valve's code like the lua scripted jigglebones that modders still haven't figured out how to reverse engineer.
ToEE is the worst Troika game entirely because it's just really bland as a wrpg, it doesn't do anything special compared to Arcanum and VtmB. And I'm somewhat glad we got two pretty good games out of the studio before it went belly up. At least it's better than something like Bioware making a few really good games and then half a dozen terrible ones.

The best case for Heather is staying alive with the player if the game permitted it. She is otherwise killed because of conflicts within vampire society.
Vampires are overall better than humans in the series, if the generations mechanic wasn't essentially a supernatural pyramid scheme. For example, vampires, except a specific clan, only need to feed on blood which can be done without killing. Normal human beings need to feed on meat (slaughtered animals) as a part of normal diet.

One thing I always dislike about games like FO1 and 2, and most other cRPGs that are lauded for freedom of choice, is that the choices are actually an illusion. I don't mean to say that FO1 doesn't let you choose, just that the choices are so binary that most player will go for the good ending. Say what you want about the Witcher games (and there's plenty to criticize) but at least the choices they give you are a tough sell, there is mostly never any clear ideal choice that can be made.
I guess developers fall into the trap of thinking the choices on offer have to be the "good" and the "bad" choice, when what they need is to make both choices the kind a player would be likely to choose.
